...Man, I kneeeeew this was going to happen, all of LVI against me and my Sweden No, just kidding, haha
I'm glad it's Swe-Ger, now we've got something to talk about all the days until Saturday
I think that Germany has the heads up on us, with being the hosting country and all. But it may not matter that much though, it's after all the teams on the field that are playing. And I heard that Germany has got a bad defence but great strikers. It will be a VERY interesting game to watch!
I hear that the Germans are making us look like fools in the newspapers?
Anyway, may the best country win. I'm just glad that England didn't break the 38-year-old-tradition-of-not-winning-against-Sweden-thing! _________________

It's certainly a big advantage for our team that we are the hosts of this World Cup. The support for our boys is *huge* and they are probably much more self-confident due to this. Nonetheless, I think it will be a though match on Saturday because the Swedish team is quite good! I'm really looking forward to it. Might be a very exciting match!

Huh? *shock*
Where did you hear that? If so, I apologize for that in the name of all Germans We do have one paper here in Germany (bloody "Bild") which is the biggest crap yellow press bullshit paper ever! Sorry for all swearwords, but they're just shocking!
Jürgen Klinsmann, the German coach, though said some really nice things about the Swedish team in the latest official interview. _________________

Yes, it certainly will! At the same time as I can't really imagine Germany being cut out of the WC in the eight-final (now, what do you call it in english? We call it "Ã¥ttondelsfinal" - "eightpartfinal"...?). I always feel that the hosting country has a great advantage. I mean, look at Korea in last WC in 2002! They made it to the semi, and they were hosting The fans make a difference...
But at the same time I still can't see our team heading home after just two weeks... I wish the party didn't have to be so short. I wish we did have a *cough* better team... Like. Brazil?

Well, that's nice to hear The newspaperstands were saying "The German media attack on Sweden" this morning. They said (alll
newspapers, even the "good" ones) that German media wrote bad things about us and stuff... I dunno, I really don't care. The thing I was pointing to was that they'd made fun out of our bread invention "knäckebröd" you know? They said we were "as thick and uninteresting as a "knäckebröd" (still dunno what it is in Swedish).
I don't live in Germany anyway so, hehe The newspapers over here are saying that Germany will be a very hard team to beat and that they have great strikers, a great offence, etc. Good stuff about your team that we need to keep in mind.
But as I said before: Sweden and Germany are the two countries I'm hoping for this tournament, so I will at least see one of them in a quarterfinal! If Germany wins, then I'll be cheering for them. If Sweden wins... well. You know _________________

Well, so far Brazil wasn't as good as they were at the last World Cup, IMO. I don't really think they will make it into the finale again.
Also, Sweden did really well so far and our team, as you said, has still some weaknesses in the defence. So yeah, I hope it will be a great match!
That's what I was hoping for the match Argentina - Netherlands, but it turned out to be sooo boring.

That's what the German coach said about Sweden, too. He said that they've been watching all the Swedish games so far and that you guys have a strong team and that it will be tough to play against you.
And forget about the newspapers. Nasty lil' bastards! It's just quite embarassing to hear that though, especially since we are the hosts of this World Cup *sigh*

That's fair enough. But thanks for keeping your fingers crossed for Germany, too I will do the same for Sweden.
I'm still hoping for Australia to be among the last sixteen. And I will keep my fingers crossed for Argentina, of course, even though the last match was quite disappointing. I've been a fan of Argentina for years and years now and also, I always loved Gabriel Batistuta _________________

Since you live in Germany KajaM, is it true that the German newspapers made fun of David Beckhams kids by calling them: Midgets?
I mean come on!! I've heard someone say 'Its like going up to a baby and saying "OI OI BALDY!!" and "SLAP HEAD!!"
If its true, that is really low and we could say A LOT of things about them, but we dont. _________________

Yeah, I agree with IntoTheVoid, and it's also pretty bad since they're the hosting country, as you said KajaM. I hope they quit soon, but maybe if we beat Germany on Saturday they will stop doing things like this... maybe we can shut 'em up! _________________

Lol yeah, its kinda childish. They can make fun of other countries and be quite harshly steriotyped (correct spelling? ) but if we say something back, for instance, something about WW1 and/or WW2, we get called worse names than before and even get in trouble with the police!!
Once again, I don't know if its true but if it is, then im angry _________________

Too bad these things takes the attention off the football... it hurts the sport. Things like it shouldn't be allowed, but... that's our grazed up world.

Nah its Stereotyped. Pretty close though
And I agree with you btw. How many times has an England fan been arrested in Germany so far? I ran out of fingers to count on... _________________

First of all: Yay! Australia is among the last sixteen!
And congrats, Di!
Now on that other topic, Elle and Meandi: I gotta admit that I don't really read German newspapers. I prefer getting the latest info from the internet or the telly (and I can assure you that at least the reports and news on the telly are very neutral). As I mentioned earlier there's one newspaper here in Germany which publishes the biggest crap reports ever and I wouldn't surprise me at all if they had made some nasty comments on the Swedish team or the Beckham kids. They made some really nasty comments on the Polsih team and I was absolutely annoyed because I was born in Poland myself and I just love that country and its people.
I don't like really like talking about the whole WWI/WWII and Nazi issue because, as I said, I was born in Poland myself and my family lost quite a few family members and relatives in WWII. As I grew up in Germany though, I regard myself as being more German than Polish, if you know what I mean. So I'm kinda caught between two cultures.
The German part of me gets all embarassed when I hear stuff like that (i.e. the newspapers making nasty comments about other countries' teams) and the Polish part of me just gets upset, especially when they make such comments about the Polish team.
From what I've experienced so far during this World Cup though, I can tell you that the big majority of the Germans just wants to see nice matches and enjoy the atmosphere. And, in general, the atmosphere is fantastic at the moment! I study in Cologne and people of so many different nationalities are partying in the streets together all the time. Well, of course, there are some incidents here and there, but this can and does happen during every other World Cup, too. We had German hooligans fighting against Polish ones, but this week it also happened here in Cologne that Swedish and English fans were fighting against each other.
I don't really know what else to say. It just makes me feel bad to hear those stories
Anyway, I hope that we just can enjoy the rest of the World Cup together. For me me it's much more important to enjoy the atmosphere, see nice matches and nice boys _________________

When I read the whole 'Stuck between two cultures' part I felt really sorry for you! We have some really stupid, ignorant and pathetic papers out here like 'Daily Mirror' and 'The Sun' They are just full of crap and they make up so much rubbish about people. I've lost count on how many times the Daily Mirror has been sued for false articles. I just hope that England fans don't ruin it for the English football team like they did in the Euro thingiemibob or the last world cup (something to do with 'if english footie fans dnt start behaving themselves then England will be chucked out of the world cup or something like that) _________________
