Lost Video Island

Hallo, my OC-writing friends. My Michayla (Lost OC) muse is back niggling at my brain, and.....

I'm thinking about rewriting her story. Aside from the fact that it sort of sucks and is painful to read (heh), reading it now, I feel like Michayla's character didn't really develop until several chapters in. The early chapters she feels weird and OOC to me. So I think I am going to rewrite it.

The question I'm grappling with is whether I want to make her older (17/18) or keep her the age she was in the original (15/16). She has a birthday while on the island, so in the original, she turned 16 ten days after the plane crashed. Which was cool back then, but then the whole thing with her and Boone evolved completely of its own accord. I really didn't plan for that at ALL, but if I rewrite, I'd like to devote more of the story to the Michayla/Boone thing....

Which is why I'm thinking about having her be 17 when the plane crashes and turn 18 on the island. The only problem is, I'm used to writing Michayla at age 16. And there's generally a pretty big gap in maturity level between high school sophomores and high school seniors. XD At least in my experience.

....So I guess I'm just going to have to get used to writing a more mature Michayla. If possible. Because she never was very mature. XD

.....sorry for the novel, I guess I just spewed everything I was thinking for the past couple hours into one post......

Yay for Michayla muse, Eryn! My advice is to change her age and adapt your writing a bit to fit a slightly older character. You've mentioned quite a few times how you were frustrated that she was so young, I think you'd regret it if you didn't. I'm sure you'll write it just fine and it will feel so much easier and more "right" once you start. Good luck!

Random, but I was like soooo tired and about to fall asleep and I made this collab part and only faintly remembered doing it later. haha I wasn't sleeping at all or anything, but the memory was just fuzzy cuz I was so sleepy. It's my first that I've vidded of Aidan and it's about his friendship with Claire, despite being basically the "outcast" of the survivors, no one liked or trusted him in a big way. Hopefully I'll get to write him soon so it makes more sense. hehe Here is it is!

Thanks, guyses. It's gonna be a bit of a change is all - I'm used to writing her as a barely-16-year-old, which was fun since there really aren't any teenagers on Lost, but yeah....she needs to be older. Still younger than the rest of the Losties, though....other than Walt. XD

Yeah, Eryn, I think you should just do what feels right. You could make her older, don't forget there are some young adults who aren't very mature, lol!

Loved that collab part for Aidan, Allie! That manip of Charlie punching him and everyone walking away was really convincing!!

Eryn: Yay! I'm glad you went with your gut, Eryn, and started the re-write. Did you go ahead and make her a bit older?

I think because you were that age yourself not so long ago, it will make it much easier to reach back and remember what your maturity and those of your peers was like, and how you felt about things, etc. Now that I've written stories where my SeaQuest OC is closer to my age, I find it is a little easier to write her.

I am so excited to read your re-write! Would you rather that I not continue reading the original, or do you mind either way?

Everyone: Guess what!!! I've been working on my Lost OC, but I'm stuck on a name for the OC guy. I had finally come up with Elias "Eli" and--I kid you not--that night I watched the pilot of The Event and the president's name was Elias, and I was like ... and then they called him "Eli" for short and I was like . LOL!!! What are the odds?! XD I've been through name lists over and over and can't find anything else I like. Should I still stick with it?

Julia - yup, I have her age 17, turning 18 ten days after the crash. Decided to keep her birthday the same because I'm SO anal about my timelines it'd be a bitch to switch around more than the year.

If you want to keep reading the original, go for it. The story is likely going to be pretty similar, just with better writing and hopefully better plot. And a better sense of Michayla's character from the start!

On names - I've found that once I'm stuck on a name, it's hard to change it because it kind of feels right. So if you like the name Eli, I say stick with it!

Hahaha... I've edited this post like *eleven* times. XD

My first OC idea came to me fully formed, but when I sat down to work out the details all these other--but too similar--ideas flooded my brain. I was torn between incorporating what I could into my idea but having to ditch ideas I loved, or finding a way to incorporate those ideas into a second character without having two different stories that were really similar.

Over the course of the last twenty minutes I think I have finally worked out a way to go with both ideas. There are some major similarities but they're different enough I think I can go with it. What's cool is that my new idea should be fairly easy to vid, even though my first idea would be hard to vid because of the casting. Anyway, now I'm happy!!! WOOT!

so I've been searching super hard for someone to play Kelso, Carrie's childhood sweetheart... I thought, I need someone with both outdoors and indoors scenes. and preferably who dies. then I found him - Robert Pattinson even though I hated him for a bit 'cos of Twilight, but now I love him again 'cos of Remember Me and I'm sure if I rewatch HP4 I'll remember why I loved him in the first place

Yay! That's so awesome when things like that work out!

The re-write is....going. Heh. School's keeping me super busy and I couldn't write last weekend since I was in Chicago, but it's getting there. XD I have the first scene written....when I go home this weekend I may have to re-watch the pilot, just to freshen my memory. But I'm having fun with it!

Ahh, Robert Pattinson.....I enjoy informing people that I loved him before anyone else knew who he was. I remember fangirling over Cedric when HP4 came out. Bwahaha. Now I'm not such a fan of him, but Remember Me made me hate him less, because he actually was good in that movie. 0_o I think I just really hate how he plays Edward. Also I kind of hate Edward in general.

I know what you both mean about RT! I actually love Twilight but because it's a bit cheesy and because he's so pasty and cheesily intense, it's kind of hard to separate RT from that character. He was so much more appealing in Remember Me!

Eryn--hey, even when you can't be actually working on the re-write, your brain can be processing and fermenting ideas that will come in handy for when you have some writing time. I'm super excited to read it and it will be fun to see the changes you make and how her character differs with the added age.
