YAY for 24! Except in the first half an hour of season 5, they killed off two main main character, and then like three more over the next few eps. Wow, no one is safe on that show. seriosuly. *shakes head*
Umm...I think I have all my ranting out of my system. Wow, surprising. _________________

24 is too over the top for me, alas, although I do like Keifer Sutherland as an actor. I kept on meaning to get into Heroes, but never did. (It doesn't help that BBC America had Mystery Monday, and I love the BBC mysteries; they're so stark and well-shot and well-written compared to the American stuff.)
Wednesday is frustrating for me as it's Lost at the same time as Project Runway, sometimes. I always watch Lost, as Project Runway airs approximately 36 times during the rest of the week, but it's still a crisis. _________________ I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. lets rant about that! I loved Michelle; she was awesome. and her and tony were so cute, albeit dysfunctional at times. And then they go and kill her in the first seven minutes, i think it was. AND president Palmer (who was an awesome president by the way; although his brother is hotter, as immature as that seems ) but i do applaud the show for doing it because no other show would have the guts to kill of two main characters and still have confidence that the show would do well. and it did! Then they killed of Tony, even more sadness, but as long as jack lives ill be fine:P I do love Chloe, too. she's a kick ass bitch and she knows it and nwo she's having a baby, sweetness ;P her and morris are hot together:P
although i love 24, i hate, hate, hate, with a passion and in the same way that I hate Ana on Lost, Audrey. And its not the character, although season 5, i think it was where jack was beating her up and she's all "please, please stop it' i was like, dammit woman!! Kick his ass!! dont let a guy almost kill you then be all weepy, but i also hate the actress playing her. I just think she's weak, but thats me. I'd love to see Kate from season two back in, maybe as more a kick ass character, like jack's rival in a way; in a sort of Mr and Mrs Smith kinda thing; that's be cool.
Must comment for one sec to Kate about BBC dramas; personally i cant stand them. i think its cos i feel like there all set in the 80's or something, but they all annoy me. And its not just them, Australian drama suck, too. Well, to me they do. We can't do them. all of ours look like plays that someone has just filmed and stuck on TV. and they tend to reuse the same actors, its just so repetitive. None of our people seem to want to take risks. like Lost was a massive risk for ABC that payed off. They didn't think a show about a plane crash would be watched by anyone. same goes with 24, a show all set on the one day? can't be done. Well, it can and very well. But all of ours seem to be like soap operas in a differnt setting, in a police station, on a street, at a beach, in a hospital. they're just not good, to me at least.
wow, i sure can rant when i want to. so glad i started this thread _________________

Yeah, the deaths were horrible! I watched the premier before my mom, so the next day I hear 'NOOOO! Michelle NOOOO!' across the house, and start cracking up. I look at my bro who looks shocked and say 'She's just watching 24.' and he starts laughing too. The same happened when David died. And I agree that he was an awesome president. He was the best pres so far! I was mad that he died. Jack is totally awesomely (Whoa, I was reading pver my post and saw this typo...LOL). I like Chloe too, and I'm such a Chloe/Morris shipper! hehe I love his accent. Anyway, I'm not a huge fan of Audrey. I wouldn't' say I hate her, but she's just kinda boring. I did like Kate back in season 2 tho, she and Jack shoudl have stay together...whoa...did I? I hardcore Skater just say that Jack and Kate shoudl be together! Blasphemy! Somebody kill me quickly! hehe Funny thing is, in 'The Family Man' with Nicolas Cage, the leads are named Jack and Kate as well. Strange. And ANNOYING! There aren't enough Sawyer's out there.
This was only a half rant... _________________

The boring reason for that: film stock. UK film stock had the 'eighties look' to it through about 1996 because it used cheaper stock than the American productions could - obviously the budgets of the UK productions were much smaller. That's why everything from Hercule Poirot to Keeping Up Appearances to Coronation St. and back again looks like it belongs in 1981.
However, I don't like the soap opera dramas - I like the mysteries. Stuff like 'Wire in the Blood' iand 'Spooks' (MI-5 in the States, as that's a questionable word here) is absolutely vicious, brilliant stuff, although both come with a hard R rating, so you're forewarned. They take no prisoners, and they have guts, and American series, as you said yourself, are very afraid of taking risks - Lost and a few others are exceptions, but the vast majority are not.
The same people, too, is just what it is in the UK and, I guess, Australia too: Studio actors. We had that in the States too, in mid-century, when certain actors "belonged" to certain movie studios. That produced some of the best films ever (The Maltese Falcon, Casablanca, Key Largo, Beat the Devil, It Happened One Night, etc. etc. etc.), but it also kept various good actors (like my favorite actor ever, Peter Lorre) completely typecast in the roles the studio wanted them to be in. There are pluses and minuses to a system like that, and the minuses tend to come when it's, like, dramas for middle-aged people that don't take risks - because you're seeing the same actors in such uncreative stuff, it probably feels horribly samey.
'24' was just an idea whose time had come - it had been tried in various movies; various books (since 'The Remembrance of Things Past' and Marcel Proust) and now it was tried in TV and, apparently, was successful. I would attribute that more to the strength of the idea alone than to the series itself (speaking as someone who has only seen five-ish episodes of the show.) _________________ I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. You forgot the most important Jack.

That is all.
(PS I own this movie and recommend it to anyone else who is a fan of absolutely crappy horror films. If you're already laughing when looking at the shots from the films, you are the right person to watch it.) _________________ I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. wow, thats a lotta jack's yes, you can use the sig. i cant remember who made it tho but go ahead
man jack frost is scary didnt see ur earlier post til now :
Ah, well, if its film stock thats the issue then i guess its not their fault, but i just cant stand it. and a lot of the problems, from the dramas ive seen, revolve around middle-aged and older people. this is going off "midsomer murders, inspector linely' that knida thing.
i HATE soap opera anything with a passion *rant ahead* its just absolutely not feasible. I mean, i get that they're there to entertain but there's a right and wrong way to do it; and that sh*t is wrong.
as a 24 nut, i will defend it forever, but i do know that its an acquired audience taste. And you cant really tune in at season six and be like "What the hell? That'd never happen." cos if you'd watched the show from season one you'd understand how it could. I watched a thing on youtube with Kiefer sutherland saying how 24 was always meant to be the absolute worst of a siuation, eg. bombs going off, terrorist plots, and then the US actually dealt with those issues so that had to branch further out and were freaked that things had actually gone that far.
anyway, off topic, again. ill be off now _________________

RANT!
I hate hate hate when people recommend you for certain committees at your university; you accept the position; then, at the start of the school year, they don't inform you as to what you have to do. I'm on a certain committee here and have no idea what the hell my responsibilities are and what the hell I'm doing, and asking people has brought me no new information.
I mean, for Pete's sake, people. Get your act together! _________________ I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. His hair was perfect.

How stupid. Sorry about that, Kate. *hugs*
As for my rant...my school schedule says that my classes start on September 3rd, but that's Labor Day. So, I looked it up on the college's website to make sure, and it said only that it was a holiday. it didn't say if classes were still going on that day, yet when I was choosing my classes, it still says that they start on the 3rd, and I have no idea what's going on! _________________

Our school has classes on Labor Day. Hell, if it weren't quasi-Lutheran (like Notre Dame is quasi-Catholic), we'd probably have classes on Easter.
Way to go, law school!
I have to take a graduate seminar Tuesday nights too, apparently. 'Religion in the Age of Science.' I actually enjoy the religious seminars here - as an agnostic who, as before, attends a nominally Christian school, I find that disagreeing with practically everyone in my class is much more refreshing and interesting than being one liberal agnostic amongst 50 per class at Mount Holyoke. There's only so much discussion you can have when people agree. Disagreement's much cooler, as long as it stays civil. _________________ I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. Argument can be fun, much less boring than agreeing with everything someone else says. As long as it's civil, as you said. It makes you think, and even if no one changes their minds, it still has everyone involved thinking.
Anyway, that wasn't a rant.
Um...I'm bored. Hm, I'm running out of things to complain about. lol What a refreshing thread! You can get everything off your chest that's annoying you! _________________

Here's something littleton_pace and I found that we agree to complain about:
Bananas are horrible, bland, and disgusting. The texture is offputting, the flavor is nonexistent, and the comedy potential of people slipping on a banana peel has been passe since the Marx Brothers. Therefore, bananas should be banned worldwide.
Agree or disagree? Because we both hate bananas. _________________ I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. His hair was perfect.

I don't necessarily hate the taste, but the texture and the stringy things on them...ugh. *shudders* And slipping on a banana peel? C'mon, there HAS to be somethign funnier that you can slip on. _________________
