I like lots of episodes, especially for shows I like. The long hiatus that Lost did never bothered me, all shows go on that long of a hiatus.
I just never got why fans complained about it, they need a break to write more episodes, and the actors deserve some time off.
Anyway, I'd rather wait 2/3 months rather then waiting 5/6 months. Besides, I've always liked more episodes. I just don't think Lost can tell a story in '17ish episodes' a season. Especially their last one, when they used to show about 24 to 25 episodes per season.
Also, what bothers me is they did it because fans were griping about the hiatus. So they did the 'wait super long' to show it so they can do a 'straight run through' with no breaks. And every year, after the third season, they do a break.
I kind of feel like most of the fans got the short end of the stick on that deal. |

yeah I didn't like it either and it didn't bother me that there'd be three weeks of re-runs or whatever....its better than waiting 9 months between seasons and then only getting 16 episodes. _________________

The waiting 9 months or however long it is, until it starts in January didn't bother me too bad, just because I have to wait that long for 24 as well. But I agree with how stupid it is to make us wait that long for like half the episode count. _________________

I always thought it was funny that fans would be like "TWO MONTHS?!" And so the writers/creators were like "Okay, lets make them wait 9 months, have 16 episodes and do a straight shot from the first to the last episode.
And what bugged me was, I hated the plan the whole time just because of only 16 episodes compared to 24 ish. And they haven't done a straight run through. They usually do a hiatus, granted it's one episode. I just feel like I got the short end of the stick. |

yeah and its funny b/c the best seasons in my opinion were 1 through 3 which were the only complete seasons where we got at least 20 episodes. _________________

I agree, they were my favorites too. I just don't think Lost can be told in '16' episodes a season.
Especially with season 6. It needs more then just 16/17 episodes to be told. |

I like the straight run through idea because watching a serialised drama you can't have it stop starting all the time in the middle of the story.
Shortening of seasons was due to the producers agreeing with abc to stretch out the seasons but shorten the amount of episodes. It's no coincidence that seasons 4-6 are the equivolent of two seasons worth of normal sized seasons. So yeah it's not so they can show them all in a straight run from January.
I have mixed feelings about having a longer season as the general plot progression could be really slow at times but with shorter seasons they tend to go the other way and go too fast with it. I do miss some of the quieter episodes that we don't get now but I also don't think they have much of a place in the final season of the show. _________________

I prefer it all together, because like Paul said, if there's constantly a week or two in between every other episode, it's easy to forget some of what's going on. You need to be able to watch it straight through, I think. And besides, the first few seasons when we had tons of reruns in between, I heard a lot of people complain saying they'd wish it just ran through and now that it does, people are still annoyed about it. So I guess there can be fault found in any way they do it. They do have to think of time and money constraints as well that we probably don't understand. hehe I'm fine with it either way, but I think it probably works best when we can see it all at once like it is now, though I wish they hadn't shortened the seasons. :/ _________________

I wasn't one who complained about the hiatus in the beginning. I would rather wait a few months, instead of 9. I started watching Lost during it's third season, the episode "I Do", I was thankful for the hiatus so that I could get caught up, which I did.
I like long seasons, so 16 to me isn't enough to tell the story on Lost. I think it needs longer seasons. |
