PostPosted: Tue Aug 26, 2008 6:26 pm    Post subject: Avi Problems In Vegas! Please Help! Reply with quote

I'm getting sick of opening avi files in Vegas and not having any sound! It sucks when I download whole episodes, cuz I can't use the sound from it, or at least I have to use my audio recorder and then sync it up. It's really annoying, so I was wondering if you knew how to fix this.

The avi files open, but it always says "stream attributes could not be determined" for the sound part.

I have AVI FourCC Code Changer installed, but that only made the video work, not the audio. This is getting really annoying, and I'd really love for the problem to be fixed. Could someone please help?

hmm, the AVIC changer has always worked fine for me *altho vegas hates .AVI's anyway* could you screencap what the fourCC code changer looks like when you change the format for me? sometimes it's as simple as it all not being in CAPS or noncaps that screws it up ;P

The thing is, the program is working. At least to an extent. Avi files don't work when I first download them, but when I run them through the program, the video works...just not the audio.

Here's the screencap anyway, I'm not sure if this is what you wanted...

yeah, that's what im after. see how the FourCC Description Code is all in lowercase and the FourCC Used codec is in caps and lowercase? they need to all be the same. so try:

FourCC Description Code: xvid
FourCC Used Codec: divx

or of that doesn't work, try the opposite:

FourCC Description Code: XVID
FourCC Used Codec: DIVX

sometimes , just having one letter in caps screws up just the audio or just the video or both, as i found out :S

the only other thing i can think of is d/loading a converter and switching the AVI files to WMV but im yet to find a reliable free one :S

I only did it that way because Karolina told me to. But I'll try it your way. Thanks!

Neither of those worked.

I'd convert them, but I don't have any good conversion program. The one I have takes sooo long to convert even a small file, so a whole movie file would take like a year!

hmm, i spose you could try switching them? making the top divx and the bottom xvid. perhaps try:

FourCC Description Code: XviD
FourCC Used Codec: DivX

all i know for sure is that with AVIC, you have to do the same thing to the bottom as it is in the top, all in uppercase, lowercase, etc

sos i couldnt be of more help!

I switched them, but that just made it not recognize the file. *sigh* When I tried doing the upper/lower case thing, it didn't do anything... how odd. Thanks for your help, Kat, but I dunno... maybe Vegas just hates me. jk

Me? *has amnesia*

This doesn't seem to work for everyone, too, (it didn't work for Paul, for example), but installing the FFDShow codec fixed my avi-problems. Vegas wouldn't play the audio, but when I installed FFDShow, it all worked perfectly well. I don't know if this will be of any help for you, Sassy, but you could try.

lol that's funny you said "any video converter" and it sounded like you were being random. I've always had luck with allok video converter.
