Oh, ok. I get it then. Thanks and sorry about the confusion. I was just really getting confused and starting to think I was speaking a different language or something. I get what you mean now. _________________

| I read the rules thoroughly at the beginning of the month and that was not there before or else I wouldn't have used that format. I'm not trying to pick a fight here, but you can't keep adding new rules as you go along or how else is anyone supposed to keep up with it? |

We don't "keep adding new rules". We never wanted trailers, we said that repeatedly and its in the rules. We can't be held accountable if people don't check them. We remind people to always check back in the contest thread in case there's an extension or something, but not everyone does. That's why we say check the first post. _________________

That's fine, Kat. I understand, I just literally looked at that part of the rules that you quoted (and read it a few times to make sure I had the right idea) and the "and trailers" part in parentheses wasn't there. :s Maybe I'm blind too. But either way, it's not matter to me. I'm not trying to start a fight or anything. I have just found that I've been getting confused by the rules lately, and I feel I'm annoying the CM's when I ask for clarification. Sorry about that. _________________

As I said, I read the rules thoroughly -- several times, as recently as last night -- and there was no mention of trailers. That's what I mean about "adding new rules". It might have been mentioned in this thread but I shouldn't be expected to wade through eight pages of discussion to find something that wasn't on the official rule page. I have more important things to do, and I'm sure you do too.
It's too late for me to change my video now unless I redo the entire thing so essentially my efforts were wasted on something that could easily have been avoided if the "no trailers" clause was specified at the beginning of the month when the contest was announced. I'm not trying to be difficult here, but needless to say, I'm very upset, and so I wanted to point out the predicament I (and clearly others) am in as a result of this so it can at least be avoided in future. I'm sure this is not the first time it's happened. |

Sorry about that Sam, but we thought with the information we gave and the example we were being very clear as to what was asked for. And the 'no trailers' thing was discussed on the 1st and 2nd of the month; very early on. And we always say, ask the question if you're unsure. Which people did and we answered. _________________

After watching Athena's video, I looked over the rules page again to make sure, and I agree with her, it wasn't there.
I will also say though, that I always try to read through the full thread, like you guys say, if there's an extension of any sort.
I think it's true that if there is a new rule discussed within the thread, it should be added to the first page as soon as possible for those who don't read the thread, but at the same time, new rules pop up during the month, deadlines are extended, etc. etc. so reading through the thread is ideal if you want to have the most updated information by the minute.
I think both parties are right in this matter. As for my vid, it's going horribly. I haven't seen a "green screen" type tutorial here on LVI, though I've seen a couple on YouTube. I would really love to have my Losties in the world of Silent Hill.....but it looks like complete crap lol. Most of the time I can't get most of the beach or ocean or big blue sky to disappear. But I'm going to figure something out. |

Okay, Shaun Of The Dead does count as horror so feel free to use it for this contest Sorry again for the wait

Also, can you use more than one horror movie? Can you use some of the audio from the movie? |
I'm afraid Donnie Darko doesn't count as Horror so you can't use that film for this contest, however, yes you can use more than one horror movie and yes you can use the audio! Hope that helps! |

Oh, good. So I'm not crazy then. I looked at that particular section thoroughly a couple of minutes before Kat posted that thing about the trailers, and it wasn't there when I looked. But oh well, it's there now.
I do agree with Erin and Samara though, as soon as new rules are made, or old rules expanded upon, it would be nice if they could be added somewhere on the first page, because I don't think it's fair to expect people to constantly check back and wade through the pages and pages of questions and answers. As an admin on two other sites myself, I believe that that's the mod's job. Some people have limited computer access, some are simply very busy, and some, like Samara, may look at the first page the first day and make their video right away. Then a couple days later, check back and see that because of the new rules or old rules reiterated and expanded upon, the vid is now no longer following the rules. I know I would find that extremely frustrating. _________________

Well I just watched Athena's vid myself and I have to say that you all are making a big deal about the trailer title where its not really the issue. The vid itself would be disqualified on the fac that its not a crossover. Title cards in part of the movies trailer dont really make a crossover.
As a vid, it was an alright vid, but it clearly didnt follow the initial rules of the comp.
And as for new rules being added, Im pretty sure that I saw when it changed and it sounded like you guys were making it sound like the CMs were being back handed, when Im sure that once it became an issue it was changed so that people saw it on the first page. _________________

lol We aren't talking about Athena's vid only, we were mainly talking about AthenaAlexandria. Samara. She made a contest vid that is in original trailer form, meaning she didn't take the audio and title cards and just put Lost clips over it. It's definitely a crossover, but it's in trailer form.
I guess we are making it sound like that, I don't mean to be accusatory. Originally, I thought that I must have been wrong.. but now that Erin has posted the same thing, I'm not sure what to think. No offense to the CM's, but me and Erin both looked at the page minutes before this discussion, and it wasn't changed, then Kat suddenly posted that and it was totally different from what I saw minutes before. :s I don't know what else to think about that. _________________

It bothers me because the rule wasn't changed until 14 days after the whole situation was discussed. The last edit that was made was when my question was addressed, a full 20 minutes before any question of the trailer was noticed and answered.
I may also add, that if your comment about the vid not following the rules influenced your vote, then I must say to remind everyone, that a video shouldn't be voted a certain way because of the rules of a contest. A video should be voted for based on quality and originality, not whether it was a trailer or crossover and not whether it violated a rule. I sure as heck hope that people aren't voting that way.
Two others and myself did not see the Trailer clause added until a few hours ago. I checked for myself after watching Athena's video and the rule still had not been applied. I made sure to check before commenting on her video at 5:35pm EST US time. |

That's not my vid. I haven't even posted mine yet. Mine is a crossover -- with footage from Lost and the movie I chose -- just in trailer format. Athena23 is a new member whose screen name just happens to be similiar to mine.
As for the Council being "back handed" ( I assume you mean "underhanded"), Stacey, you clearly need to read back because you obviously misinterpreted the issue. The issue is that new rules were added to the competition after it was announced and only recently added to the competition page. |

Ok, everyone needs to calm down in here. No trailers. That's that. Sam, sorry you didn't see it or read it. This contest is made for fun and issues like this suck the fun out of it. We will be as specific in the rules as we can in the future. _________________

You're wrong, Kat. Sam didn't just "not read or see it" because it wasn't there until three or four hours ago.
I have no problem whipping out the screenshots. |
