Is it safe to plug 2 external hard-drives into your computer at the same time? My one is getting older and I'd like to back it up with the new one. I keep a lot of the videos I have made on my external drive and I want to make sure they are backed up. But I don't want to crash my computer in the process.

Should be totally fine. I've done that before, and my laptop didn't have any issues. _________________

Thanks Tammy. I thought it should be okay, but wanted to double check before I did anything.

If you are worried about power issues then it is safer to plug the hard drives into separate usb hubs. So say if you have two on the front of your computer and four on the back plug them into different ones. There probably won't be a problem like Tammy said though. _________________

Thanks Paul. I was wondering about doing it that way with using the different locations of USB ports to keep from over-taxing the computer. I've noticed my computer gets weird if I plug in my flash drive next to my hard drive , plus it is hard to remove them when side by side. I have USB's on the left and right side of my computer, so I think I'll plug one into the left and the other into the right.
