Charlie has turned into Eko, Eko has turned into Locke, Locke has turned into Jack- was Charlie's ear actually bleeding? Because he undoubtedly had damage to his ear drum, which may make him partially deaf. I dated a guy who was hit by a car and wa spartially deaf in one ear- ironic huh? The musician cant hear very well- maybe hell do a "Betthoven".

I hoped Hurley would rush Michael like he rushed Sawyer.

The shirtless beginning- nice.

DISTRESS- if you think about, we are ALL (even you dides!) moronic fan-girls in our own ways. Youre not alone
And also, I thought of the Lord of the Rings also with the big foot. (Alf? 4 toes?).

Sayid---> incredibly hot. The sacks over the head scared me- Ive seen two many period-pieces and usually that means youre dropping through the gallows!

Maybe Jin and Sun intercept Michael's baot- if they really are as far away as they claim, I dont know if a small boat like Mikey's would make it too far, regardless of the navigation.

My thoughts exactly. But not anymore.

Me too! But Hurley just leaned there and stared helplessly at Michael. I was a bit disappointed that it didn't get more climactic than that.

Ah, well that's good to know. I know exactly about the big foot, when I first saw the shot of it I was almost anticipating the Fellowship theme music coming on to the scene. I was like, "What is this, a crossover?"

You betcha.

There are also some things I didn't like about this episode, like when Locke was talking to Desmond about when he was in the pearl and they actually showed CLIPS while he was talking over them. I don't like that. It takes you out of it. I find it more intriguing when it's like you're with them around the campfire, using your own memory and imagination to their storytelling.

And discontinuity. At least in my opinion. When Desmond was going to run around the stands and got bombarded by his girlfriend, and then they engaged into a whole full-blown soap opera moment. Hello, he was crying. And they just piece that in when afterwards we all know Desmond's all happy and excited as he meets Jack. I don't like it when they put more stuff into the flashbacks that contradicts what they previously showed.

And is it just me or was that meeting with Desmond and Libby awkward? They barely even met each other and there were more looong soap-opera stares than there were dialogue. Corny. Maybe that's just me.

Other than that, way awesome finale.

One moment where they played old clips and it worked well was when Desmond turned the light on and saw Locke above. That worked pretty damn well. But yeah I don't really like it when they do this it's distracting.

I loved that scene. There was no narrating over that though. That was a flashback, wasn't it?

By the way, Paul, your avatar ROCKS. I laughed out loud when I first saw it.

Okay, now that I've had some time to properly absorb all that happened in the episode, I'll give my thoughts.

Things I liked about the episode:

1. Desmond. And this is not JUST the fangirl inside me talking. I just like the reappearance of the character, his flashbacks, and all the answers and information he brought. How crazy is it that he accidently crashed Oceanic Flight 815!? Here's hoping they bring him back next season!

2. Sayid. He's been growing on me really quickly ever since "One of Them." Brains and muscle ... what more can we ask for? In reference to the black smoke, "This time they will know we are coming?" GO SAYID!

3. Sun/Jin moments. Very few, but I'm glad they're patching up their marriage again. And how cute was it when Jin shrugged his shoulders at Sayid after Sun insisted on coming on the boat.

4. Charlie. He gets points for being the reasonable one (for once) and trying to convince Locke to come out and talk to Eko before ... Kablooey. Also, for "flying fork" -- I'm so using that phrase whenever I have to find a way to get out of swearing.

5. Sawyer. But there's nothing new there. Mostly loved him for keeping the humor. [Hurley: I'm not hungry. Saywer: You serious?!]

6. That one teeny Jack moment where he goes back for Kate. Putting Jate/Skate/Jawyer/whatever aside, I just liked that scene because it shows him risking his neck for someone else. It, hopefully, will bring us back to the days where Jack was the HERO and not just the naive, screaming, guy.

7. Locke admitting his guilt about Boone's death. I've been waiting for a Boone mention from him for a while.

8. Ending. It was absolutely unexpected and really weird. Leaves you in a perplexed state of mind which is kind of cool.

Things I didn't like about the episode:

1. Eko. I get where he's coming from, really, I do. But I don't like what the button is turning him into. For him not to go to Ana-Lucia and Libby's funerals was pretty low, on his part. Furthermore, the extreme lengths he immediately went to (the dynamite) before even talking to Locke about it... And what happened to his reason? Didn't he figure the explosion would hurt him (and maybe even the computer)?

2. Before I get on the bad side of all the CC shippers out there, I just wanted to say I'm secretly rooting for Charlie and Claire and I really liked the kiss. But I just can't get over how incredibly FICKLE Claire is. Has she really forgiven him for kidnapping her son? Does she even know that he's truly given up the drugs? Does that even matter to her even though she says it does?

3. Michael getting away with Walt. Okay, granted it was a lovely father/son reunion, but he just sacrificed his "friends" for it. And would the writers really make his escape that easy... I guess we'll have to wait until next season.

Things I'd like to voice my views on:

1.

I'll admit, now that I think about it, it is a little discontinuous with Desmond's flashbacks and the other characters' flashbacks. But you have to remember that Desmond sees Pen for the first time in a long time at the stadium. I know he was looking upset in that scene, and happy in the one with Jack, but I figure that he's glad that Pen's still actually in love with him. From what he heard, she was getting married and believed he had "forsaken" her. This probably gives him hope and maybe he wants to give some of that "hopes and miracles" feeling to Jack. Remember, when he told Jack to believe in miracles and "lift it up?" Hope that makes any sense to you, DS!

2.
Quote:
4.) Did the Russian guy at the end NOT have Sawyer's glasses on?

I thought they were Portugese? And I really didn't notice the glasses - will have to go back.

Questions/Ideas:
1. If Desmond's failure in inputing the numbers resulted in the plane crash, was it Locke's failure in inputing the numbers at the end of "One of Them" that caused Desmond's boat to start sailing back toward the island? Was it that magnetic attraction that brought him there? Or is it that they really are in a "snow globe" since Henry told Michael that there's no point in telling people about the island since there's no way to find it?

Needless to say, I'm definitely eager to see what Season 3 brings us!

Desmond, Eko and Locke have to be alive. There's no reason for them to die, electromagnetism doesn't kill people.
I have just one observation. Do Eko, Locke and Desmond have no fillings? Because the electromagnetism got mega strength, crushing the counter, everything metal no matter how small flying around.
We KNOW Desmond has fillings, and Locke and Eko surely do. Why do we not see them clutching their mouths? Fillings torn outta the teeth, that'd be something!

Along with the fillings - If the magnetic freakout really did happen when Desmond didn't push the button, why do the following things still work:

1) Computer?
2) Record player?
3) Washing machine/dryer?
4) Blender?

First four off the top of my head, but there are tons of technological things within the hatch that, had things really almost gone to hell, should have been destroyed. For all Kelvin's words about how powerful the magnet behind the wall is, for all Sayid's saying the wall is quite a few feet thick to keep the magnet in bounds, nothing happened to all that tech.

The holy-crap-I-didn't-push-the-button scene should have destroyed those things amongst others, and yet it either didn't or those things were replaced and Desmond never noticed (unlikely.) Electromagnetism is not a pick-and-choose process. I'm not sure if it's bad writing/brain aneurism on the writers' part, or if there really is a disparity there that's intentional. I hope the latter, but I worry it's the former.

That's a very interesting theory. I'm sure that could have been why his boat came back to the island. But that scene at the end really confuses me about the whole "snow globe" theory. How will they be able to find Desmond, if they really are in a snow globe?

One little thing I also hated about the episode:

Eko saying, "Don't tell me what I cannot do". That really deflated Locke's character, for me. I used to like the whole Eko/Locke are one complex, especially when he showed Locke the missing part of the film, but Eko seems to be taking over Locke's character and it annoys me when he steals Locke's great lines, it makes Locke seem even less like himself.

thefilmchick- That's interesting. The only reason I can think of for why that would be is because they had to show the record playing in the beginning for the shock factor of the hatch or something like that, and then they just figured out what happens if you don't push the button. But it doesn't really seem to bother me much. There are other things that bother me more.

No offense Distress, but Hobbes and I have come to a truce on the Locke and Boone issue- believe it or not, its really emotional for a lot of people. We dont want to open that debate again...

now THATs what a season finale should be! No disapointment like last season.
-Desmond. i'd been waiting the whole season for him to come back and they sure waited till the last minute to do it! He was awesome though. I would be thinking he is dead were it not for the ending. But Des/Eko/Locke must all be alive. strange that they showed charile getting back to camp though.
-The button did something. I always wanted to believe it did, but i didn't think Lost had the guts to go that sci-fi. I think the 4 toed statue proved me wrong on that lol.

Anyway, now that the hatch/button is done (THANK GOD), can't wait to see what season 3 brings!

I loved the Desmond flashbacks and I think he is alive as well.

As far as the four-toed statue part, didn't that seem very Planet of the Apes like?

Remember in the original movies they find that part of the Statue of Liberty? Yeah...

I knew there was a reason why I watched this show, and not just to see some stupid ep about Sun being pregnant but not really being able to be. I wanted things to be shaken up, something to actually happen, and see how the characters reacted.

I'm totally with you here, Warren. Season 2 had some very good episodes ("Maternity Leave", for example, was great), but unfortunately some very weak ones, too.

This finale, however, was so much better than last year's. I didn't like this abrupt ending though. But, hey, it's "Lost", so what did I expect?

Quote:

I watched the finale together with a friend and that's exactly what he said

Anyway, some thoughts:

1.) Desmond: Poor guy! First he lost his girlfriend and then he had to realize that the plane crash was probably his fault. He became a sort of hero though in the end ("sort of" because we still don't know what really happened). I'm convinced that he's still alive and that he'll be back next season. Well, at least I hope so cause he could be a great character.
2.) Charles Whitmore (was that his name?): He's gotta be a Dharma guy, don't you think?
3.) Charlie: I know that many people like him (and some even liked him more after this episode) but I actually hate him more than ever. Well, okay, he tried to help Eko, but why the hell didn't he go back to the hatch when he heard that his fellow Losties were still down there? I'm sorry, I just can't stand him.
4.) Michael: I had sooo hoped that Jack, Sawyer or Hurley would punch him when he told them that he had killed Ana and Libby. *sigh*
5.) Locke: I don't know what to think about him anymore He was one of my favorite characters in Season 1 and all that's left now is an old weirdo. I liked the scene though where he talked about Boone. It was quite touching.
6.) Henry: So the little man is the leader, huh? Actually not a bad choice because I believe that guy can be very cold and cruel. He's really creepy.
