Evangeline Lilly and Barry Humphries Join The Hobbit!
Peter Jackson announced today on Facebook that Evangeline Lilly (“LOST”) and Barry Humphries (Dame Edna) have joined the cast of “The Hobbit” films! Here is his post:
Yikes! I can finally get back to some postings! We’ve finished our first block of shooting and moved straight into location scouting. More on that soon… But today, I’m thrilled to announce two new cast members who will be joining us for our second block of shooting.
Evangeline Lilly will be playing a new character—the Woodland Elf, Tauriel. Her name means ‘daughter of Mirkwood’ and, beyond that, we must leave you guessing! (No, there is no romantic connection to Legolas.) What is not a secret is how talented and compelling an actress Evangeline is; we are thrilled and excited she will be the one to bring our first true Sylvan Elf to life. (…)
Evangeline and Barry, along with Welsh actor Luke Evans as Bard and Benedict Cumberbatch as Smaug, just about rounds out the major casting. I cannot wait to get stuck into these new scenes! (source) _________________

I was going to post this up when I found out
First Dom, now Evangeline but it's nice that Evi is going for different roles. I think she'll definitely be a brilliant addition to the cast _________________

Huh. That's interesting. It'll be cool to see what they're doing with her character....And Evi will make a great elf!
Okay, hold on....DOM IS GOING TO BE IN THE HOBBIT??
Wait, why? (Merry was like not even born when The Hobbit took place...or he was really young....huh. Confused LotR fan right here.) _________________

I don't think Dom is going to be - he was in Lord of the Rings, obviously, but since The Hobbit's the prequel to LotR, his character won't be around.
It is cool that Dom and Evi will have worked on the same franchise, though. Other than Lost. _________________

Oh. Okay. Sorry, that was a fangirly freak out.
Now I'm wondering if Evi may have met Peter Jackson when she and Dom were dating....you never know...
And Evi will be a *perfect* elf, I always thought she and Liv Tyler looked really similar....so.... _________________

I am be speculating but it looks like even after their breakup they remained friends. I remember after their breakup she went to his gallery for his photos. Even if he's not in it.
Awesome, I am truly glad she hasn't given up acting like she said she wanted to. I think she'll be great for this. She's got range and I can't wait to see more of it.
Dom said they might do a cameo, and it seems like they're still casting. |

Yeah, I keep finding out new casting info on this movie. I am SOO excited!! I'm a little surprised to hear they cast Evi, but I'm happy for her. She'll be good in the role and it'll be a really good move for her, career-wise, if it does turn out she wants to keep on acting. _________________

Yes! I am so excited for this film(s)!!!
As of yet, I haven't heard that Dom will be in the Hobbit, but beside from Ian McKellen and Andy Serkis reprising their roles... Orlando Bloom, Elijah Wood and Ian Holm are supposed to be back... I'm guessing they will probably do a little bit of a lead in to the beginning of Lord of the Rings... so there's still a slim possibility that Dominic may appear... yet, but it hasn't been confirmed. _________________ New account/other vids (my other account is on it's last leg with copyright notices)::

Evi's got that Liv Tyler-type of beauty and elegance, so I'm sure she'll make a great elf _________________

YAY!!! I'm so excited about this!
I was kind of weirded out at first, though, because it's a character that didn't appear in The Hobbit, but then I read that these "new" characters were actually created by Tolkien, even though they didn't necessarily appear in any specific book.
It's especially awesome since it seemed like she was going to retire from acting. It will be nice to see her working!

Good point, Sara! I didn't even think of them doing a lead up to LotR. That would definitely be an explanation if Dom does end up being cast. _________________

Yeah, plus with Legolas, ---even though he's the Prince of Mirkwood-- I don't think he ever actually appeared in the Hobbit book... just his father, the king-- so I think they are just going to explore Mirkwood a little more, which is why they added the extra characters. I think the story just had Bilbo sneaking around invisible with his ring on for several weeks, until he can get the imprisoned dwarves out, but to my recollection it didn't really go into any specific story-lines about Mirkwood.
So I'm excited to see it! Peter Jackson can do no wrong in my opinion. He added extra elements to Lord of the Rings that I think expanded the story and made it even better.
Basically the only thing I could think of was a lead-in to Lord of the Rings. I thought I heard that they were casting a "Drogo" which is Frodo's father who drowns (which is why Frodo was living with his Uncle/cousin Bilbo). LOL, Yeah you can probably tell I've read the books a couple times.
I think I just labeled myself as a geek. _________________ New account/other vids (my other account is on it's last leg with copyright notices)::

Good to see that Evangeline's still going to keep acting. She's too good of an actress to give it up as she'd talked about doing after Lost.
I think this is a really smart career move. The Lord of the Rings was a huge film series and seems to have a really good fanbase like Lost did.I think this film is going to do really well. I know she's done some other film work, but I think this has the best chance of helping her break into film and breakway from Kate since it is such a different character from Kate.
Isn't there supposed to be a second film that's connected to The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings? Wonder if she'll be involved in that one too?

Going back and reading, it comes off more as if she wanted to take a break and not quiet acing all together. It sounds like the media took what she said WAY out of context.
“I want to have some quiet space. [I want to] drop off the radar a little bit and enjoy a little bit of normalcy again.”
Which she pretty much did; I mean she had a child and most people found out what 7 months later? Some probably don't even know she has a baby.
Every site I looked at with the tagline about her retiring it says take a break from acting. That's the media for you. |
