Hey. I have some viruses, or ad-ware or maybe both. I have something called the 'redirect' virus, I tried evrything I could and though it's better it's not fixed.

They said for a simple cleaning it would be 85, and if they have to re do everything on my computer IE set it to factory settings and such it would be 90. I personally find that reasonable, but I just want to make sure.

I am pretty sure over at Best Buy they over charge and most guys don't even know what they're doing. The guy I spoke with said he has a guy who works for him and he also works at Best Buy and they have to often re-do things he does because they trained him wrong there. Doesn't surprise me. I've gone there and had my computer's issues misdiagnosed twice.

I have something called a redirect virus; never heard of it but they have. A hijacker is trying to redirect me to sites to get me to download malicious downloads.

Thanks.

I've had some nasty viruses in my time. This wouldn't happen to be a fake anti virus that is saying everything is a virus, and will only let you go to their website to download/buy their anti virus to get rid of it is it? Cuz if it is...I've had to get rid of it and can walk you through how to do it.

No. Norton said I had viruses. I WISH It was that.

I've had those websites. Freaking out at how many viruses you have and then telling you to download this or that. When I first saw it I believed it but then realized it was a website.

I don't know if it's a VIRUS or just ad-ware. It's not as bad as it was yesterday or the night before. But I do have a 'redirect virus'.

Oh, so sorry about your virus problem, hon! Yep, I've definitely heard of viruses that try to direct you to a page where they want you to download even worse stuff!

Have you tried running Norton in Safe Mode? (That's where you catch the computer as it's booting up, hit the F8 key and it loads only the bare necessities to get the system workable. If you scan for viruses at that time, sometimes you're able to kill them in Safe Mode because they "hide" in programs that are unable to be altered when the computer is running in normal mode.)

Also, have you run other programs such as Malwarebytes and Spybot? They also can be run in Safe Mode as well to try and clear out things that they otherwise can't remove in normal mode.

Beyond that, if you've already done everything you can do, then yes, I think it's worth it to pay to get it fixed. Most of the time, they just reinstall everything (which you can do yourself if you have your original discs, but it takes time and it's a hassle). So if you're able to pay and don't want the hassle, I think it is worth it.

Good luck, I hope you get it fixed soon! ♥!

Ah, in that case, since you have something else wrong with it, I think that's your best bet to just go ahead and send it in, let them clean it all up and hopefully get your DVD player working again! ♥!

I would LOVE to have my DVD player working again; but only if it's free. I get paid next week.

I know this is an old-ish post, but if anyone does get a virus/malware popup, here's what I do:

This has worked for me, I will get random malware popups from time to time and they suck, but they are actually quite common if you do a lot of googling.

Step 1: Illegally turn off your computer if it's beginning to act crazy (multiple pop ups, fake anti-virus scanner) by pushing the power button or unplugging your computer.

Breathe. lol

Step 2: Turn it on, push F8 until it goes onto a computer menu.

Step 3: Go on safe mode or click on "repair my computer" (some computer models have it and some don't)

Step 4: Run System Restore and restore back to a time before the issues started.

Step 5: as your computer is restarting click F8 again, go into safe mode.

Step 6: Run your spyware remover. I use Malware Bytes and do a full scan, deleting all malware/trojan/spyware/adware.

Step 7: Restart your computer and it's all better!

Sara, I had to pay to have my cleaned, but I appreciate this for the future.

I had a 'redirecting virus' which is something I've never had before. It was nuts.

Sorry about that! Sometimes if you catch it early you can remove it, but if it gets into the system and screws it up enough it would definitely need professional help. Glad you got your computer back up though! I think I had a redirecting virus on mine, I didn't know what to do at the time, so I just deleted my internet explorer! lol!!!! It did the trick, but then I couldn't reinstall the internet. I still have the computer for storage but I don't use it anymore.

I have two internet sources on mine.

But yeah I was fine paying 85 to them. I've had to pay worse and they didn't throw any extra fees at me.

I am not comfortable with messing with my computer, I did it once...and really screwed it up.
