On a recent story, I got a couple of flames. I can handle flames if they contain constructive criticism. But one said my story wsa s**t and the other said I should get a beta because my story was boring and crap.
Can anyone actually justify that kind of review to me? It's an opinion yes but there's no reason for such a horrible review. I actually felt a bit shaky before laughing at it, because if it's such a boring story why comment?
And considering the reviews were anonymous I can't really contact the people responsible but even still my confidence has taken a hit because I am so sensitive when it comes to my writing. Vidding is a hobby, so any criticism I can handle, but this really got to me. It shouldn't have I know but still.
Sorry for ranting but really need some advice. Like I said I can handle criticism as long as it is constructive, but would you call those kind of reviews constructive at all? _________________

Constructive criticism:
Loved it, but one little thing, maybe try whatever next time.
Not constructive criticism:
This sucked go die.
so, yeah... no. I wouldn't think those are constructive at all.
I've had a flame or two in the past and the best thing to do is to just ignore it. I mean, it's obvious they're trolling you, so don't let it get to you hun *hugs* _________________

Thanks Millie I think I've figured out who's left the reviews.
I sent a really long constructive criticism filled review on a story that was completely appallling. A huge block of dialogue is the only way to describe it. But I told them how to improve and gave them tips and they've thanked me by reviewing one of my stories quite nastily.
It's really given me faith for mankind. lol
*hugs* Thanks anyway though. _________________

I HATE REVIEWS LIKE THAT!! I want people to explain WHY they didn't like it or felt it boring. I want any kind of feedback they can give me. But that to me isn't feedback it's two people who are mean and don't know how to react to anything.
Don't listen to them, really they just sound mean. |

Sorry that happened to you, Amy! Similar things have happened to me, most recently on my Chana/Daire story where a reviewer commented on every chapter, seemed to be enjoying it, and then left this totally nasty comment just because they didn't like where the plot was going, or the couples I was writing. I didn't get it. I made clear in the description what the plot was, and what couples were involved, so what was the need to leave a horrible comment with something that wasn't contructive at all?
Anyway, yes, it is a confidence shaker - especially if you're serious about writing like you and I (I recall I didn't post another chapter for a while after that!) but it's important to just not take notice to unhelpful comments like that. Remember a lot of people on fanfic.net (or LJ or wherever) aren't really professionals themselves. We're all just there to share our work and enjoy each other's writing etc So what does that person know anyway? From what you've said already, probably not much
I'm glad you're past it now anyway. It's good to just move on and leave hurtful comments like that behind. By the way, you're a great writer!! Planning on anymore Chana stories? |

Grrrr, that makes me so mad when people do things like that! There just is no reason to do something like that, it's just for sheer meanness!
So sorry that happened to you, hon! *hugs* |

It's fine. I've figured it out it was just a petty sort of revenge flame for me not giving their story a positive and shining gold review lol
On the plus side, I've submitted my Home Alone vid onto the side!! Yay!! ♥
Thanks for the support you guys ♥ sending you much love xxx _________________

Those types of things used to really bother me too.
But you know, you've sort of got to realize that it's one person saying that, and that if there are more positive reviews than negative, than you have to focus on the ones who liked it and not the ones who didn't. Everyone has a certain taste or they had a bad day so they feel like ruining someone elses. Just take it in stride and let it bounce off. Kindly delete the flame and feel sorry for that person for being so hateful. _________________ New account/other vids (my other account is on it's last leg with copyright notices)::

just to conclude this story, the girl in question did actually apologize and said it was her friend who did it and she was going to, and I quote, 'have a go at her' which shows the kind of maturity really.
Thanks for all the comments and stuff though. It only bothered me for a moment but then I just shrugged it off. Hate is really not needed in this world, better move on and forget it. _________________

I'm so sorry that happened to you, Amy!
(((HUGS)))
I really have to believe that when someone is so tactless and hostile in their criticism, you have to wonder if they genuinely didn't like the story or whether they're just trying to stir up trouble or hurt feelings to make themselves feel better about something, you know? In other words, take it with a grain of salt. Focus on the supportive comments and the helpful concrit and ignore stuff like that.
