I liked this episode. I do agree with people who are saying it was kind of a waste of an episode this close to the end (I wish they had mixed the flashbacks in with realtime stuff) but I LOVED finding out all we did!! I really feel like we're getting some answers!

I loved the "light" thing. So now we know why Jacob was protecting the island!

And we know where ol' Smokey came from! Yay! The oldest mystery on Lost = solved.

Adam and Eve = also solved. Loved them mixing in the clip from House of the Rising Sun when they found those skeletons. (Though if they'd just showed a littttle more of the clip we coulda seen Charlie...oh well. )

Allison Janney = awesome. I wish I hadn't been spoiled about her appearing in this ep because that would've been a nice surprise, but she was still awesome - this was a totally different role from others I've seen her in so that was cool!

I've been thinking about the light thing today. I reckon it's where all the dead people go and if it goes out there is no afterlife or something. Basing that on smokey who can seem to take the shapes of anyone dead.

That's an interesting theory, Paul.

So now the only thing we don't know about Jacob/MiB's past is where their "mother" came from and where the Others originated. At first I thought they were the people from the ship but they were all slaughtered. :/

I think we do have to accept there will be some things we're never going to find out....my dad was interrogating me last night about the frozen donkey wheel and why it was frozen and why the island started jumping through time and I was all, "I don't know! It doesn't matter!"

I'm not sure we're going to find out where MiB and Jacob's mother came from.

P.S. So, is it safe to say that Jacob represents man *before* "taking a bite of the apple", and MIB represents man with the sin of knowledge? Or something?

Totally what I was thinking when the real mum was showing MIB the others!! It really reminded me of the actual story of Adam and Eve. MIB was corrupted because of his curiosity!

I loved this episode despite expecting to hate it.

I was reading something at DarkUFO and I loved how they explained their theory of it being set in Roman times, everything they said seemed to click.

So I guess some parts were cheesy but no more so than Ab Aeterno and everyone loved that. What was it people didn't like?

I for one was glad they didn't give MIB a name. I was dreading the anti-climatic moment and I was happy when he went without. I also see this possibly being important in how MIB views his relationship with his mother. Imagine your brother having a name but not having one yourself, it would make you feel undervalued which may be another reason why he turned to the "others" so quickly.

I also thought it important how the mother said to Jacob that "he didn't have a choice". When she said that I was freaking out about how Jacob is so pro-choice. It's all to do with him not having one!!!

The end was really beautiful, I loved how they flashed to the discovery of the skeletons and it was so sad how Jacob had lost all of his family. Despite the problems between the brothers they still loved each other which was evident all through the episode especially in that scene.

Ooo, excellent points, everyone!

So, here's something I thought of while re-watching it today. I thought it was interesting that Jack/Kate/Locke in the cave scene are perfect counter parts for Jacob/Fake!Mom/MIB:

Jack = Potential Jacob replacement

Kate = Also a "fake mom" who raised someone else's child as her own

Locke = MIB

Cool, huh?! It seems that it was no coincidence that it was those three people in the cave.

I wonder if this says anything about Aaron's significance? Could he be a potential vessel for Jacob's re-birth even though he was born long before he was needed?

WOW! That's a really good point Julia. I didn't even notice that.

I think it's safe to say now that Aaron is incredibly special seeing as how he has been the only baby born on the island since MIB and Jacob, besides Ethan who's purpose might just have been to make sure that Aaron was born (remember Ethan was the one that kidnapped Claire in Season 1 to ensure that the others would raise Aaron so he wouldn't be influenced by the losties), much like AJ did by killing MIB and Jacob's mom.

Something I also noticed that was cool in this episode was the similarities between MIB, Jacob and the losties. The MiB has a crazy mother, who is not really his mother; Kate found out her "father" was not her real father. Locke and his love of games. Hurley can see dead people, like MiB; but he can't stand to tell a lie, like Jacob. Etc.

Whilst I would love that to be true, I doubt it. We have two eps to go, and Littleton was scribbled out on the wall. They don't have the time to make Aaron as important as he would have to be for this to come true. I've always thought, and I'm pretty sure Darlton always said, Aaron was special. First baby born on the island in ages, Claire was the first mother who lived through the birth on the island, etc. They had significance; yet both characters are rarely used.

The parallels with Aaron and Mib/Jacob were a'plenty, but I just don't think they have time to make these important connections without it seeming like a rushed, last minute thing. Hell, Aaron isn't even on the island. Is someone just gonna says to Claire or something "Your son has always been the vessel." or something? And then that'll be it; with no lead up? :S I dunno, as much as I'd love Aaron to be more important; I doubt he's going to be this close to the end! prove me wrong Lost!

It would be cool if Aaron was MIB's soul(before he turned into smokey) reincarnated.

I wasn't saying that they would explain this, I just think it's pretty obvious now that if Aaron had stayed on the island he would be very special, much like how Walt was.

OOO! Awesome observations, Dennis! I hadn't even thought about the parallels between Ethan/Aaron and the similarity with AJ making sure the babies weren't influenced by the other people. Nice one!

Also, what you said about MIB having a crazy mom made me remember when he was telling someone that a few episodes ago. Now I really want to see that again and see what he said about her.

I have a lot of faith that we'll get a lot of answers in the final 100+ full minutes of show we have left after next week.

I think it's really beautiful that they have never seen the outside world and it makes their stories the ever more tragic. Made me love the episode more

I think we'll get the bigger answers, but the small answers that not everyone cares about, probably wont be addressed.

I just hope they're true to the characters and true to the show, and don't leave me hanging like Angel did.

Wow what a cool episode this week Seems strange with no regulars in it but very cool
I was thinking oooh is she gonna give birth to Jacob, and omg she gave birth to Jacob Wasn't expecting there to be another but sorta puts me in mind of it being MIB.
OMG what a poor thing though to have happened to their mother.
I liked how Jacob has the white stone and MIB had the dark one, kinda reminded me of locke with the one side is light one side in dark.
Oooh that was cool finding out they can't hurt each other, why Ben had to do it.
I liked how flocke managed to see his mother and she shown him where his mother's people are, and sorta why he wants to get off the island so badly as he has never been across the sea. Aww it's quite that he's wanted to get off the island since he was 13
It was intriguing when they found the magenetic site, just like the hatch I liked how the wheel was there, how the frozen donkey wheel was created.
Now I was expecting flocke to try and kill his 'mother' as opposed to the other way round
I did feel bad for Jacob when everything had been destroyed and his people's homes that was sad that he had lost everything all his hard work.
OMG wow we foiund out who the stones came from, and OMG finding out who Adam and Eve were!!! :O
That was very cool to see how he became smokey, how he was that way because of Jacob.
I thought that was famout last words when she said see you at home I was like something is bound to happen lol.
I like how with Jacob his name was always being said but Flocke's wasn't
