|

Okay, so my vegas is playing the picky AVI card. It works with some AVI's, on older episodes that I have, but newer ones I have, the AVI files will import, but without any audio. The video I'm currently working on I'm in desperate need of audio, and the converters I have drastically reduce the quality of the footage. Is there any way to convert an AVI file without reducing the quality, or a way to maybe trick vegas into getting the video and audio files to both import? _________________

You could try importing the clip in to WMM and render it as a wmv file. I know some people do that |

Do you know if there is a way with WMM to keep the ratio of the file the same? does that make sense? LOL. Like in Vegas when I pull up the AVI file it already fits the widescreen ratio, when I use WMV files their always blocky and you have to force them into the widescreen ratio. _________________

I think I understand...to be honest, I haven't used WMM in a long long time and have forgotten how to use it, lol. But can't you just change the ratio of the file in Vegas after it's been converted? That's what I do because my clips aren't always widescreen. I just right click, go to properties and change it to widescreen in SV |

LOL. Yeah I haven't used WMM in a really long time either. I actually just opened it up the other day just to see if it's any different on Windows 7 than it was on Vista, and it was so different I don't even think I'd know how to work it now . Oh I didn't know you could do it that way *smack forehead* I always do the pan/crop tool to do it, and it totally screws with the quality and like zooms in way close on the faces. I'll try it that way, thanks Jemma! _________________

What I do is use WMM to render out the audio that I need and then use only the audio from that in Vegas and use the original AVI footage for the video, that way you don't lose any picture quality.
I occasionally do get an AVI that tries to offer me audio but I've found it's not usually worth it to try to use it, when I open the project again, inevitably the sound I've already got in use in my timeline will have shifted forward or backwards in the scene from what I put there! So I always rely on WMM to get me the audio. It just saves a bunch of hassle down the line. |

I was actually just thinking of doing that aislynn. I was about to render an entire eppy for like one tiny little clip of audio i needed and i was like--why don't i just clip it, and just use it for audio. LOL _________________

WMM is definitely handy when it comes to nabbing the audio, lol! I guess it needs to be able to do at least one thing superior to Vegas, just to keep from being all

LOL! Totally true. the thought of having to use WMM makes me wanna LOL. I still have nightmares from my WMM days. It wouldn't have been so bad if it didn't crash everytime you added a new clip to the timeline. At least Vegas is stable, unless you try sticking in an AVI clip that it doesn't like. I have a few of those too. The ones that it refuses to open. I seriously don't understand the difference between one AVI file to the next, but apparently Vegas does. _________________
