Your welcome...your vid was amazing! I'll have to go over to Imeem and fav it. I just have to figure out how to get Imeem to run better on my computer...the playback is so jumpy and today it won't even load the vid...*sigh* going to ask my computer genius husband later. oh but oddly my new vid is still on Vimeo...but I'm sure not for long. _________________

Aww, thanks Nikki
Morgan, I used photobucket a long time ago with one of my first videos, the quality wasn't that great and it took a while to load when I did it, but who knows it might have changed since then. _________________ Jin is lost in Sunlation forever..

that sucks! don't tell me that vimeo is YouTube's bigger and meaner sister!!!
I tried signing into my vimeo yesterday and was convinced I had the right password but wouldn't let me log on, checked my emails but my account hasn't been deleted.
Maybe they see fan videos of Lost as somehow uploading or posting TV shows..what are you supposed to really upload then? *headdesk* _________________

Permission to swear alot and repeatedly bash my head against the wall?
..Meh, I'm gonna do it anyway.
THIS SUCKS. Is there some way we can make our own host sites for free?? |

I'm probably all wrong about the site but what about buzznet? I think it even encourages people to upload music etc. I'm not sure if we're allowed to upload fanvids or if it's just for music. Just thought I'd suggest it. But I'm not sure.
I've also been looking at this:
List of video sharing websites
But I can't find another decent one
ETA: Also found this Metacafe. Other Lost vids are on there. I know the site isn't very, uh, "Nice"? But you know, I guess it's better than nothing if you're that desperate |

I imagine every streaming website has to follow these rules or risk getting sued at the moment. It is the music that's the issue not the lost footage though.
What we could really do with is some webspace on LVI to at least host the latest videos or something I don't think they are likely to come knocking on LVI's door cause we're not well known. _________________

That's a good idea Paul! We could really use something like that on here. I wonder if that's possible?? _________________ Morgan

You're right, Paul, but actually it's worse than that -- all sites, whether streaming or just downloading, are subject to the copyright laws. YouTube is the biggest video sharing host out there so they've been targeted first. They're being sued by Viacom for any video content they hold the copyright on and Warner Brothers has recently required YT to pull all music content that belongs to them or risk a lawsuit. Then there are many artists out there whose labels have decided not to allow their music to be used in fanvids. Then there are a smaller handful, usually independent labels and artists, who will allow their music to be used so long as they get an ad on the page.
But other sites are NOT immune. As YouTube vidders look for new streaming "homes," the copyright violations will follow. (Look no further than the mass account deleting today and yesterday from Vimeo for proof of that. ) As long as the music and tv/movie industries are determined to treat vidders and their vids as the enemy, they're going to keep looking for us and trying to make it as difficult as possible for us to share our vids with each other.
Even paying for your own webhosting isn't a foolproof solution. I know of a couple of people with websites who have received "cease and desist" emails, in other words, they were warned to take their vids down or be sued directly for copyright violation.
It's tough because we've all gotten used to the ultra-convenience of all of these streaming hosting places, where we can pretty much see any vid on demand. It's going to be a lot harder to go back to temporary downloadable places. And you'll notice that all temporary places have a "report" button where all it takes is one person to report the file as "illegal" in some way and they'll take it right now themselves.
*sigh* All we can do right now is just keep sharing our vids with each other as best we can, however we can, and hope that eventually something gets worked out where the copyright holders stop coming after us like this! You can bet that without the threat of lawsuits, YouTube and other places like that will be more than happy to have our "business" again! |

In a way, I can sympathise with YouTube. They just don't wanna be sued because of our vids It's just not fair for anybody really. And I thought maybe that would be the problem with setting up our own websites. We'll be in trouble then. And I don't really want that on my hands I don't want to have to revert to using zshare and what not because I always get annoying ads come up and it's not as good. |

I got deleted from vimeo the other day as well. Some of my youtube videos have also been deleted.
I think we should start some kind of grassroots champaign. I mean Warner Bros. almost sued FanFiction.net for copyright over Harry Potter Fan fiction and it wasn't until J.K Rowling stepped in that they realized these 14-year olds aren't trying to steal an idea or make some money- they are just fans creating something centered around their favorite book.
The industry has to stop looking at vidding as infringement and look at it more an an extension of a fandom (footage, music and all). We're not making a profit off of it. It's just a hobby!
I'm thinking we should get some of the most popular vidders around and get some kind of movement going to tell the youtubes, and Warner Bros. of the world that this is harmless fun and they should stop deleting our videos! _________________
