SEPTEMBER 2008
Contest: Strange World
Deadline: October 6th -- extended!!

The Details

Strange World is a soulful tune by Sarah McLachlan, and that's what September's contest is all about. Sarah's music is full of emotion unlike any other artist. This month we'd like you to use one of her songs to create the same effect for a Character Study. Simply choose ANY past or present character (living or dead) from the show and pair them with one of Sarah's songs. Make us laugh! Make us cry! Make us angry! Make us feel the emotion of your video!

We will be using a song AND character claiming system. 1 song per vidder and 2 vidder's MAX to a song. 3 vidder's MAX to a character. You MUST claim both the character and the song in this thread.

Here is a list of Sarah's songs to help you make your choice.

Definition of a Character Study- taken from Google.

* concentrates on a single character and his or her development through a story arc, or his or her personal struggles.
* An in depth story of a certain character explaining his/her history or point of view.

The Rules

Specific Contest Rules:

* - Make an emotional Character Study video to a Sarah McLachlan song.
* - We will be using a song AND character claiming system. 2 vidder's MAX to a song and 3 vidder's MAX to a character. You MUST claim both the character and the song in this thread. One song per video please; no trailers.
* - Duets/Covers are fine as long as Sarah sings the bulk of the song.
* - No AU storylines, instrumentals or non-Lost footage allowed.
* -The more creative, the better. Don't be afraid to take risks.
* -Running time should be no longer than 5 minutes. We suggest the 3 - 5 minute range.
* -When entering your video on the Submit page, you MUST enter "September 2008 contest submission" exactly in your vid's Description.

General Contest Rules:

* -Contest submissions should be entered through the Submit page
* -All regular submissions Rules apply.
* -Only one entry per vidder
* -Videos already submitted and RELEVANT can be submitted again, but we would rather see something fresh. (Please contact a CM if you wish to enter a previously-submitted video)
* -Please do not use Megaupload, Rapidshare or Yousendit to host your files.
* -Keep in mind that however you choose to host your video, it must be available for download at least until the end of the month. If we can not access your video at the time of judgment it will not be considered.
* -Have fun!

Can I , for now, claim "World on Fire" with Hurley as my main character?

I haven't quite made up my mind yet because Sarah has made so many fantastic songs.

Sorry, I have to be a pain and ask a few questions:

Can the song be a live-version?
Can the main character be presented from someone else's POV? (Let's say I make a vid about Juliet, but from Jack's POV?)

(Sorry again... I'm really having trouble choosing a song and a character, there are simply too many options

)

Oooh, I like the sound of this. Ummmm, okay. I have a Q too, it can be about a relationship, can't it? Not just one character but about a pairing?

Altho as for the Live version; I'd say go ahead

as long as sarah sings the song; we're not fussy

And jemmz; we're after Character Study's this month only. But you can allude to a ship. Like if you were doing a Jack Character Study on-island; you'd have to mention Kate in some aspect cos she affected his life but it has to be mostly about Jack. So not a ship vid; just a character study

hmm. I know what you mean, Jemmz but we really wanted Character Studies (past, present and/or future) this month; not ship vids. And that song is very shippy

Awesome contest! Yeah, I had the same question as Jemmz about if I wanted to do one of Sarah's shippy songs for Sun. "I will remember you" That song is sort of shippy, so I wanted to know if I could do that? If not then I'll choose another song

i guess the question is more 'are shippy sarah songs allowed" cos some of her songs are more about 'ships than a singular person. I'll check with the Others but my personal answer would be no cos we did want to do pure Character Studies this month
