The Details

Ever watch a vid and feel like it fit so well to the music it was meant to be? That’s an effect every vidder strives to achieve in their videos – to piece together a song so elegantly with the clips that they seem to be one and the same. Well, we’re taking that effect to a grander scale. Forget a song and clips, we’re fusing an entire artist and show!

This month is Coldplay month. They’re popular, they’re talented, and their songs have a real “Lost” feel that we think is perfect for the vidders at LVI. They’re slow, but at the same time a bit mysterious and unique, much like our show! The real challenge lies in taking those slow songs and making them exciting and meaningful by… making them seem like they were meant to be!

To help you with this part – capturing the songs in your vids – we’ve got a couple themes for you to base your vids on:
First off, no random ensembles. Try and find some idea or theme in the song you choose and make it seem like it’s meant to be – like a character study, or vid that looks at Jack and Kate’s relationship with both the good and bad.
Secondly, uh… here’s a quote!
“According to lead singer Chris Martin, the title X&Y [the title song on Coldplay’s latest album] is based on the ups and downs of his everyday life. Martin says ‘My whole day is a mixture of optimism and pessimism in its most extreme forms. And that’s what X&Y is to me. It’s two sides. I like the fact they’re very strong letters, very clear.’"
And it’s really fitting and helpful towards making these sorts of vids. Whatever you’re doing – be it a shipper vid, a character study, or whatever – showing both sides, the ups and the downs, is a perfect way to make someone feel like the vid was meant to be. If you can encompass a character or relationship in that single song, you not only have a first-class vid, but a contest winner!
So, there’s your challenge. Make a good vid. Make it seem like it’s meant for that song. Make it with Coldplay music. Have fun.

Oh, and one more thing! To prevent a bunch of vids being made to the same songs, we're going to have a "claiming" system. Using the same song as another person is allowed, but only if both people are okay with it and the themes are different (e.g. so you don't both make a Jate vid to "Fix You"). Also, try to be respectful of vidders of old Coldplay songs and try to keep a different theme than them if possible. Just try not to step on anyone's toes, that's all!

The Rules

Specific Contest Rules:

* -The more creative, the better. Don't be afraid to take risks.
* -Running time should be no longer than 5 minutes. We suggest the 3 - 5 minute range.
* -When entering your video on the Submit page, you MUST enter "July 2007 contest submission" exactly in your vid's Description.

General Contest Rules:

* -Contest submissions should be entered through the Submit page
* -All regular submissions Rules apply.
* -Only one entry per vidder
* -Videos already submitted and RELEVANT can be submitted again, but we would rather see something fresh. (Please contact a CM if you wish to enter a previously-submitted video)
* -Please do not use Megaupload, Rapidshare or Yousendit to host your files.
* -Keep in mind that however you choose to host your video, it must be available for download at least until the end of the month. If we can not access your video at the time of judgment it will not be considered.
* -Have fun!

(Sorry, I don't wanna sound mean, but I've been wanting to do this one for ages and now's the perfect time for it.)
