Haha. I love how you just called yourself a "b*tch" over and over. If it were my own story, I would've made someone else to be the "bad guy" ... not that you're a "bad guy," but when is Sawyer is RIGHT about something then that's pretty strange.
Sorry, I'm not even making sense. Dammit, I'm gonna miss Sawyer! My goodness, it was so sweet of him to ask Jack (his rival) to take care of Claire. Are you going to make me ship ConMama now!? Argh, not another never-gonna-happen ship!
Anyhow, keep it up! _________________

ok...I am not responsible for any new ConMama shippers.
NOTE: my computer is EFFED right now, so it might be like a week before I can update this. Apologies ahead of time. _________________ avatar: Plastic!Winchester Theater by anteka @ LJ; icon by me

A/N: ...I guess the Gods of Windows XP don't hate me as much as I thought. I managed to find a way to my files even in Safe Mode! So...I was so excited, I finished up the following Challenge. Special Thanks to KC for the help with this idea!
Paul climbs out of the pool, wrapping a towel around his waist and heads into the house, pressing the button on the television touch-screen and sitting down on the floor as it comes to life, to broadcast today’s Challenge.
At the site of the Challenge, the group piles out of the team vans, looking around. Ben is standing between two feeding troughs and waiting for them.
The group’s eyes collectively scan over the scene. Maybe fifty yards from where Ben is standing, there is a pair of card tables in the distance. Between the two, an arrangement of tires spanning ten feet lengthwise and half that width.
“Welcome to your fourth Challenge, contenders,” Ben calls out. “Today’s Challenge is another paired off one, however, it is more of a relay race. Your pairs and positions have been randomly chosen.
“For the Red Team, in Production, we have Claire and Warren. Once again, Charlie and Nikki, you will be paired together as the Runners. Finally, as the Consumers, Jen and Marcus,” Ben announces.
“Consumers?” Jen asks. Marcus raises his eyebrows.
“Can’t be that bad,” he replies with a shrug.
“On the Blue Team: in Production, Ruth and Jack. Steph and John will be the runners, and again, Colin and Kate are teamed up and will be the Consumers.
“Each of the pairs will be responsible for one leg of the race.
“First,” Ben says, smiling and gesturing toward the troughs on either side of him, “the Production pair will be fishing hot dogs out of these troughs filled with baked beans. You will not be allowed to use your hands to pull out the hot dogs. One of you can hold the plate while the other fishes, or you can both hold your own plates; whichever you prefer, but you can not use your hands to retrieve the hot dogs. On each plate, there needs to be at least five hot dogs before you can hand it off to one of your runners.
“Runners, you will be tied together back to back. You will take a plate from your Production pair and you need to take the plate of hot dogs across the field, navigating your way through the tires on the ground, and hand off your plate to your Consumer team.”
“Oh God,” Colin whispers to Kate, “I have a really bad feeling about this...”
“Your Consumer team may not begin their leg of the race until they receive a plate of five hot dogs, thus...at any time, if you drop a hot dog from your plate, you must turn around and go back for more and your Production team will make you up a new plate.
“Lastly, Consumer pairs...on the tables at the other end of the field, you will see that there is a blender and two large cups. In each team’s blender, there is a mixture of ketchup and mustard and also,” Ben pauses, raising his eyebrows at Jen, Marcus, Colin, and Kate, “a hot dog bun. When your Runners have brought you a full plate of five hot dogs, you will place them in the blender with the rest and you will blend it all together. Then,” he continues to explain in spite of the horrified looks on the four Consumers’ faces, “you will...consume it. Keep in mind, there will be spotters to watch progress; if you spill any significant amount, your Runners will be sent back for more ingredients. If you throw up, your Runners will be sent back for more ingredients. The first team to empty their blender completely will win.”
“Oh gross...” Marcus groans.
“I’m still sick!” Colin insists, frowning.
Kate and Jen say nothing, but both look green in the gills just at the thought.
“Oh, that’s just not right...” Paul laughs from his seat on the Community Room floor. “Guess it’s not so bad being voted to sit out this time around...”
“Everyone please take your places. Runners, you may start standing behind the white line here,” Ben says, pointing to a white line painted in the grass about five feet away from the feeding troughs. “You will have no time to premeditate,” he adds, “because once everyone is set in their spots, the race will begin. Consumers, please take your places at the tables across the field.”
Taking a deep breath, Jen grimaces and starts away from the group, Marcus beside her, and Colin and Kate trailing slightly behind.
Claire can’t help but smile to herself as she stands beside Warren at the trough.
“Claire?” Warren asks, waving his hand in front of her face to get her attention.
Quickly turning her head to look at him, Claire is snapped out of her trance and her smile fades a little.
“Should we both go for it or should one of us hold onto the plate and the other get the hot dogs?” he asks, wanting her opinion although he’s already got his own on what strategy is best. If she chooses the other option, he will talk her into his, anyhow, but he figures after the morning she’s had, it’s nicer to make Claire think that she might get a choice in this.
“Well,” Claire says, crinkling her nose as she looks into the trough, “I really don’t want to stick my face in that...but...” she pauses and looks back up at Warren, “we’ll be able to get five on the plate faster if we both do it at the same time. Like, if you hold a plate and we both put hot dogs on it...”
Warren smiles. “Exactly what I think.”
“You’re gonna drink it, right?” Colin asks Kate as they draw nearer to the table.
Kate looks over at him with wide eyes. “What, are you kidding me?!” she gasps. “That’s disgusting!”
“I can’t!” Colin insists, “I’ll throw up!”
“You won’t,” Kate says, “so long as you’re not a wimp about it.”
Colin glares at her. “Kate, I’m still sick.”
Jen and Marcus look over at the two of them for a moment before reaching their own table.
“I think we should both have at it,” Jen whispers to Marcus.
Grimacing at the thought, Marcus nods. “Agreed, Mon Amie.”
“You’ll be fine, just plug your nose and close your eyes. We have to do it together, Colin, or we’ll never finish. I’ll never finish,” Kate insists, “I can’t finish a whole friggen blender of that slop by myself and I wouldn’t expect you to, either. Take one for the team.”
When Kate and Colin are behind their table, too, Ben looks around once to make sure that the four spotters are in place around the tires and then that the Runners are behind their white lines.
“Ready,” he calls out and Claire clasps her hands behind her back, coming up close to the trough beside Warren. Warren grabs a paper plate off the pile, since Ben has specified to them, upon Ruth’s questioning, that they are not allowed to layer the plates to make them more stable. Ruth takes a plate and Jack assumes the same position that Claire has. They’re opting to let Jack have at the ‘fishing’ on his own.
“Go!” Ben calls out, and blows a whistle loudly. Jack, Claire, and Warren plunge their heads into the trough of beans, each coming up with a hot dog and dropping it down on their team’s plate.
“GO! GO!” Nikki shouts as Claire puts her head back in, swishing around, jaws snapping, as she searches for another hot dog. Warren shakes his heavy, wet hair out of his face before dropping his head back in beside Claire’s.
“Yes, Jack!” Ruth says excitedly as Jack drops a second hot dog on the plate and plunges his head back in after another.
Nikki cranes her neck to see. “One more! One more!” she shouts as Claire and Warren each drop their second hot dogs carefully onto the plate. Before Warren can get back in, Claire thrusts her face back into the trough, eyes closed against the sauce and the beans falling out of her curls.
Claire drops the last hot dog on the plate and tosses her head back, wiping the sauce from her eyes with her palms as Warren runs the plate to Charlie.
“Hurry, Jack!” Steph calls out, “Come on!”
Jack comes up empty-mouthed and takes a deep breath before going back in for another try.
“COME ON, JACK!” Ruth cheers him on as he comes back up, again, having failed, before trying once again.
Charlie has taken the plate from Warren and he and Nikki begin to walk sideways while tethered together tightly toward the tires.
“Charlie slow down...” Nikki says as she tries to keep up, which she finds difficult considering her side-stepping.
“No! Are you kidding?! We’ve got a huge lead!” Charlie shouts at her, refusing to slow.
“I can’t keep up!” she shouts back angrily.
“Go! GO!” Ruth and Jack yell excitedly as Ruth hands off the plate to Locke.
Locke and Steph walk slowly in a sideways fashion toward the tires, not wanting to trip over one another as Charlie and Nikki both topple to the ground.
“BOLLOCKS!” Charlie shouts as he hits his head on the ground, hard, and Nikki’s head bumps his equally as painfully.
“GET UP!” Claire shouts, “GET. UP!”
“Come on, Charlie!” Warren screams as Nikki tries to stand but is pinned until Charlie moves.
“Charlie please, come on!” Nikki pleads as Charlie’s eyes roll back in his head a little.
“Give me a second...” he replies weakly as his vision blurs and he blinks hard, trying to shake away the dizziness.
Locke and Steph pass them carefully and continue their slow pace as they reach nearer to the tires spread out on the ground.
“Yes! You’re doing great!” Ruth calls out to them.
Jack wipes his face on a towel Ben has handed him and watches. “Easy does it!” he yells after Locke and Steph as they get further away.
“Charlie come on...” Nikki asks again.
“I can’t even see straight,” he says, “give me a second.”
“CHARLIE, GET UP!” Jen and Marcus scream in unison from the far side of the field.
Nikki takes a deep breath and rolls onto her stomach and, with great effort, raises herself onto all fours with Charlie draped half-conscious over her back. “Put your feet down,” she grunts.
Charlie blinks again, but does.
“Holy sh*t, look at her go...” Warren breathes as Charlie’s feet touch the ground and Nikki lifts them both off the ground, face red and sweaty hair sticking to her face with effort.
“Dammit!” Locke shouts.
“What?” Steph asks.
“We have to go back,” he says angrily, “the plate collapsed on itself and I dropped a hotdog.”
Steph frowns. “It’s okay,” she assures him, “I think we have time...Charlie and Nikki don’t look to be doing too well...”
The two of them turn and start back a lot less carefully and Ruth grabs a plate while Jack gets back to work fishing for more hotdogs.
“Jesus, did she just pick him up?!” Kate asks Colin, wide-eyed.
“Looks that way...” Colin replies, staring.
Nikki half-drags Charlie back toward Warren and Claire. Her face is contorted with annoyance and pain, but Charlie isn’t nearly as heavy as she thinks he should be. Perhaps its her endorphins. “Come on, Charlie, dammit!”
“I’ll be okay in a minute,” he grunts, wishing with all his heart that he could just massage his temples and help the pain cease.
“Get another plate!” Claire yells at Warren suddenly and he jumps, startled, but does as she says, as Claire plunges back into the trough for a hotdog.
As the Challenge seems to drag on with Charlie and Nikki tripping over Charlie’s overzealous pace and Nikki’s inability to keep up, Steph and Locke try once again to reach the tires without the plate collapsing.
Nikki is growing tired from having to continually lift Charlie back up when he falls. He always seems to hit the ground with such force that he’s dizzied by the pain.
Meanwhile, Steph and Locke are a few feet away from the tires when Steph trips and Locke, unprepared, is brought down with her. They manage to pick themselves up, but Charlie and Nikki have already gotten their fifth plate of hotdogs and are on their way back for another go.
“Jesus, this is so boring...” Paul groans and heads to the kitchen for a beer.
As Charlie regains his stability and the two of them start to move forward a little more slowly this time, Claire wipes her face with a towel.
“They’re just going to keep tripping...” Warren sighs. “We can’t lose this one...”
Claire frowns and throws the towel down. “Charlie!” she screams out.
Charlie stops and Nikki almost falls over, glaring over her shoulder at him. “Come on!” she yells at him.
“Charlie, can’t you do anything right?!” Claire shouts.
“Claire!” Warren yells. “Cut it out!”
“Shut up, Claire!” Nikki shouts. “Charlie, come on.”
“You’re gonna lose this for us, Charlie. You can’t do anything right!” Claire screams angrily, walking forward and stopping only when Ben stands in her way so that she doesn’t cross the white line.
Charlie’s face goes red with a mixture of anger and embarrassment. “That’s it...” he mutters to himself and bends forward, eliciting a squeak of surprise from Nikki as she’s lifted off her feet.
“...the hell’s he doing...?” Jen asks.
“No clue...” Marcus replies.
“Charlie what the...?”
Charlie doesn’t answer Nikki as he bolts forward with her on his back.
“Ow, Charlie this hurts my back!” she shouts angrily at him.
“Curl up your legs; I’m not letting us lose,” Charlie replies, intensely focused from Claire’s torment.
Steph and Locke make their way back toward the tires in their slow and steady side step, this time Steph holding the plate carefully folded so that the hotdogs can’t fall. Ruth and Jack cheer them on excitedly as they reach the tires and start to carefully navigate them.
“GO GO GO!!!” Ruth screams.
Paul looks up from his game of solitaire on the floor and takes a swig from the beer bottle. “Now it’s gonna get interesting...” he thinks aloud.
Charlie thunders past Steph and Locke and, with sweat pouring down his face, he makes his way through the tires quickly, leaving Steph and Locke in the dust.
“NO!” Jack screams angrily. “Are you kidding me?!”
“Son of a bitch!” Ruth shouts, stamping her foot.
“Yes! YES! GO, Charlie!” Warren yells excitedly, jumping up and pumping his fist in the air.
Claire sits down on the grass and smiles. “I knew that would work...”
“Come on Charlie,” Jen chants to herself, “so close, so close...”
“Almost done...” Marcus says softly as he watches.
“Sh*t,” Steph grunts as she watches Charlie clear the last of the tires.
“Don’t get all bent out of shape yet,” Locke says, “look.”
Charlie stops and bends his knees, panting. “I can’t...” he grunts defeatedly.
“You can!” Nikki says quickly. “Come on, we’re so close! Look!” she insists, looking over at Jen and Marcus as their smiles fade quickly from their faces.
Steph and Locke clear the tires and continue slowly side-stepping, passing Charlie and Nikki again. A few moments later, while Charlie is still doubled over with Nikki on his back, panting, Steph and Locke have reached Kate and Colin and Steph hands Colin her plate.
“I can’t do it...” Colin says, handing it off to Kate. “I’m sick just thinking about it...”
“Yes, you can, Colin,” Kate insists as she dumps the hotdogs into the blender and Locke and Steph stand together, still tied back-to-back, panting and trying to regain normal breathing.
“Charlie, please...we can still win this...” Nikki pleads as tears spring to her eyes. “We’re SO close, Charlie, please come on!”
“CHARLIE, GO!” Claire’s voice echoes from the other side of the field. “Don’t stop now!”
“Come on, Charlie!” Warren’s voice echoes next.
“Please...?” Nikki asks softly. “Please...we’ve lost two in a row...”
“I can’t do it...” Charlie sighs, frowning heavily and furrowing his brow.
Kate finishes blending and pours the disgusting mixture into the two cups and hands one to Colin. “Bottoms up,” she says and plugs her nose, knocking back a mouth full of the stuff. Immediately she gags and throws her head back to keep from throwing it up.
“Oh God...” Colin groans, gagging as he watches.
“Come on, Colin, you can do it,” Steph says in an encouraging voice. “Just do it quick like a band-aid.”
“Ew,” Colin says, gagging again, “I can’t, oh God...ew, I can’t...”
Kate struggles to swallow the first mouthful and instantly dry heaves when she’s gotten it down. “Jesus Christ!” she shouts, shuddering. “Colin, COME ON!” she shouts and plugs her nose again, taking in another mouthful.
“Oh....ew...” Steph says quietly, looking away as Kate’s face goes red and her eyes snap shut. The gagging sounds she can’t keep herself from making are turning Steph’s stomach. She’s so glad it isn’t her.
“Colin, come on,” Locke says firmly, “just try.”
“Charlie, LET’S GO!” Nikki says and finally gives up on letting Charlie decide. She throws her legs out in front of herself and the movement knocks Charlie off kilter. Nikki’s feet hit the ground and she bends over, taking Charlie on her back, this time. “We’re still in this, dammit!” she yells at him as she takes a few shaky steps forward. Her adrenaline rush is waning and Charlie’s getting very heavy.
“Come on Nikki, you can do it!” Jen shouts excitedly.
“Charlie you have to help me, okay?” Nikki says, “I’m gonna stand back up and let your feet touch the ground. We can side step it together and then the rest of this Challenge is in their hands and no one can say you failed, okay?” she barters, referring to Jen and Marcus.
“Come on, Charlie,” Jen pleads. “Please...”
Charlie looks over his shoulder at Jen and frowns, defeated. “Fine,” he says quietly to Nikki and she slowly stands up straight again, letting Charlie’s feet hit the ground.
“One step at a time, okay?” Nikki asks.
“Yeah...” Charlie sighs. He’s sure that they’re going to lose. The Blue Team has already started the third leg of the race.
“Go Kate! Go Colin!” Ruth cries out, her voice echoing over the field.
“You can do it!” Jack screams, his voice, too, echoing into their ears.
Colin stares down at the large, full glass of slop in front of him. “I can’t believe this...” he says slowly and plugs his nose, taking in a mouthful. His face contorts with disgust and his eyes begin to water as he tries to swallow.
“Don’t you throw up, dammit!” Kate screams at him. Colin is looking rather pale as he holds one hand over his mouth and his cheeks pooch with a cough. “Colin don’t you DARE!”
“You can do it, Colin, I know you can!” Steph says excitedly. “Fast like a band-aid!” she reminds him.
Colin’s eyes begin to water so badly that the tears slide down his cheeks as he fights to swallow the disgusting mixture. When he finally does, he gasps for air, gagging and shuddering. “I can’t do that again,” he gasps, thrusting the cup at Kate as she manages to swallow another mouthful, leaving her cup with one more swig in it.
Charlie and Nikki have finally made it over to Jen and Marcus and Marcus is blending the mixture while Jen uses the bottom of her t-shirt to wipe the sweat out of Nikki and Charlie’s eyes.
“Thanks,” Nikki says gratefully, blinking rapidly.
“Least I can do,” Jen says, “that was bad ass.”
“Mon Amie,” Marcus says, handing her a cup, frowning.
“Through the teeth and over the gums...” Jen mutters, plugging her nose and lifting the glass.
“Look out stomach, here it comes,” Marcus finishes, and they both knock back so much in one mouthful that their cheeks puff out.
Jen’s eyes begin to water and she fights her gag reflex as she swallows. She gasps for air. “Oh my God, that’s rancid!” she says, shuddering heavily and lifting the glass again.
“Come on, you can do it!” Warren’s voice echoes across the field. “Come on! GO!”
Marcus lets out a hacking cough and Jen looks over quickly. “Don’t throw up!” she squeaks.
Shaking like a leaf, Marcus frowns and spits. “I’m not. Dear God that is horrible...” he grunts and lifts the glass again.
“They’re catching up!” Locke shouts. “Come on, you guys!” he adds almost angrily.
Kate slams down her glass on the table and swallows the last of her cup, shuddering heavily and letting out a sputtering cough.
“Come on, Colin, it’s all you...” Steph says softly.
“I can’t,” he says, wiping the sweat from his forehead. “I can’t. I can’t.”
“YES YOU CAN!” Kate screams at him, getting up in his face. “You’re halfway there, now FINISH IT!”
Jen gags and coughs heavily as she lifts the glass to her mouth again and pulls it back away. “Oh, God, I can’t finish this, Marcus!” she says, “I’m gonna puke...”
“Come on, Jen,” Nikki says encouragingly, “you’re halfway there,” she adds as Marcus shudders and spits, putting his now-empty cup back down on the table.
“You can, Mon Amie, I know you can,” he says. “You’re so close. We can still win this.”
Tears spring to her eyes as Jen lifts the glass again, grimacing and taking another mouthful. Her face goes red and she removes her fingers from pinching her nose and places her hand over her mouth, thrusting the remainder of her mixture at Marcus, shaking her head furiously and throwing it back to try to force the stuff down her throat.
“Oh come on,” Marcus whines, taking the cup from her as she swallows her mouthful and drops down to the ground in a squatting position.
“I can’t, Marcus, I really honest-to-God can’t,” she insists, dry heaving and covering her mouth, willing herself not to vomit. “It’s just one more mouthful,” she says, “please.”
“Jen, no, come on!” Marcus shouts at her, frustrated. “You can’t do this to me!”
“Colin!” Kate says, placing her hands on his shoulders and looking him in the eye. “You can do this. You can. You can go back to the van and puke for an hour before we go back to the hut and I don’t care, but you WILL finish that cup.”
Colin shakes his head and grimaces, staring down at the cup, still halfway full.
“Colin, you can do it,” Steph says, “we’re gonna win this, and it’s gonna be you that gets the glory. Finish it up. I know you can.”
Marcus holds the cup back out and Jen shakes her head. “Seriously, Marcus, I’m gonna throw up. You have to finish. I’ll owe you huge. I can’t do it.”
“Someone has to finish it,” Charlie finally speaks up.
“Shut up, Charlie,” Jen snaps. “You try trying to drink something you don’t even like to EAT!”
Charlie’s eyes go wide and he looks away.
“Fine,” Marcus says angrily. “You owe me SO big,” he adds before plugging his nose again and knocking back the last of the mixture, slamming the second cup down on the card table.
“Are they finished?!” Kate asks, looking over Colin’s shoulder.
“What?!” Steph asks, craning her neck over her shoulder to see.
“Are they f*cking finished?!” Kate repeats angrily.
The spotter for the Red Team hovers over Marcus as he sits down on the ground and tilts his head back, mouth still full.
“Swallow it, Marcus and we win!” Nikki shouts. “Come on!”
“I’m sorry...” Jen sighs defeatedly as she watches Marcus gag and his eyes water with effort.
No matter how hard he tries, Marcus can’t seem to get it down.
Kate grabs the glass from Colin and knocks back the whole remainder of what’s in the cup and holds her head back, dropping the empty cup on the ground as she uses one hand to cover her mouth and the other to plug her nose.
“Go Kate, go!” Steph shouts excitedly.
Marcus gags one more time and spits.
“Open your mouth, please,” the spotter tells him.
Willing himself not to vomit up everything he’s just ingested, Marcus opens his mouth wide to show that he’s swallowed the last of it.
Just as Kate sputters and manages to swallow most of her mouthful, a whistle blows. The game is over and the Red Team has won and the spotters are untying Charlie and Locke from Nikki and Steph.
Jen ignores the angry flip-flopping protest of her stomach and jumps up, throwing her arms around Marcus. “You did it!” she squeals. “Thank you!”
Nikki joins in on the hug, dropping a hand onto Marcus’ head to ruffle his hair. “You are the SH*T, Marcus!” she cries out.
“Get off,” Marcus groans, but doesn’t really have the energy to bother to enforce it, as the girls fawn over his victory and Charlie looks on, frowning, feeling slightly left out.
Claire, Warren, Ruth, and Jack hover around Ben as his walkie-talkie springs to life. “Red finished first,” one of the spotters says.
“We won?” Warren asks.
“We won!” Claire shouts and practically tackles Warren with an excited hug. She lets go of him quickly. “Oh, I’m so sorry,” she breathes. “Oh, my God, we won!”
“Damn!” Jack shouts, kicking the base of the trough angrily and running a hand over his hair which is now encrusted with sauce from the baked beans.
Ruth sighs and sits down, frowning. “Sh*t.”
Ben holds the walkie-talkie button down and instructs the spotters to hold their walkie-talkies so that the teammates on the other end of the field can hear. “Blue Team, you will have until tomorrow morning to decide who you are going to vote out of the game. Tomorrow morning at ten o’clock, the Red Team will join you by choosing someone to sit out their next Challenge. Great effort on both teams’ parts. Come on back to this end of the field and the vans will take you back to the Community Room.”
Pocketing the walkie-talkie, Ben gets into a passenger car and is taken away as the eight other players make their way back toward the troughs.
A/N: Ok, voting time. Send your vote to Stardael by Sunday Dec 17. I'd love it if your votes come in sooner so that, for my birthday, I can already be working on the next send-off. *hint hint nudge nudge* Red Team, sit someone out; Blue Team, send someone home. _________________ avatar: Plastic!Winchester Theater by anteka @ LJ; icon by me

AP - KC came up with this idea, not me, so you can thank her for the disgusting task I couldn't have come up with that on my own if I TRIED.
Ruth - I was so mad when I pulled my own name for the third leg of the race... But yeah, not moving, so YAY!
PC - I'm glad you like her I guess when I started this, I'd planned on making Nikki kind of the running joke, but since TPTB haven't bothered to give her any sort of personality or character, I kind of automatically started creating one for her myself. I'm glad it's acceptable _________________ avatar: Plastic!Winchester Theater by anteka @ LJ; icon by me

When Nikki picked Charlie up and started carrying him... She won my heart forever! That was teh awesome! If they could make TV-Nikki that fun, then a lot less people would hate her!
I loved how Paul was GLAD he had to sit this one out!
(Note to self: I got out of there just in time! I won't mention how me and Sawyer were off eating cookies and drinking coffee at the time... )
I was glued to my seat for this one! I totally couldn't tell who was going to win or how! Great job! |
