Idle suggestion re. LVI-bot and titles of videos.

Would it be possible to configure LVI-bot to list the names of the characters and/or the selected genre of the video when it posts a new video? I noticed that mods' videos can include characters' names in the video thread titles (ie 'Wild Horses - Sun') and thought that that might be nice to include in general too.

Speaking personally, anyway, given that the song names I choose can be rather misleading in most cases. After all, 'Lost and Confused' sounds angsty - not funny, and 'There's a Story in Your Voice' could be pretty much anyone; hell if anyone can tell it's a Sawyer vid from that.

Just a thought; feel free to let me know if it's already been struck down.

I'm pretty sure that was before the days of the LVI Bot. But I like that idea, it'd be cool if the LVI Bot could put the genre and characters on there.

What Marcus said . But if you guys want that, we probably could implement it... though doesn't the descriptiopn fulfil that purpose already? If someone wants their vid to clearly be a CC vid, for example, then they would put that in the description

Point taken and I'll use the description in that fashion from now on.

Also regarding LVI-bot: Any chance of getting "lesser" punctuation (especially apostrophes) into that thing? Two of my videos so far have had apostrophes in the title, and the stickler ex-writing tutor in me screams at the lack of apostrophes in 'There s' or 'Byron s' (a space being the best I could effect). The commas would be nice for the descriptions' readability, but I will seriously bribe y'all for apostrophes.

I believe that the "special characters" were disallowed because of security reasons after that last major hack...

I know what you mean though, it seriously has pained me to put up words without correct punctuation!

I could always title my vid 'The Luggage of Lord Byron,' I guess. Although that sounds like a bad Ray Bradbury ripoff waiting to happen (and old Warren's - YES HOBBES I MEANT YOU NOT WARREN ZEVON, TOTALLY - corpse would hit 400,000 RPM).

There's a trick to that, theFilmChick. Type whatever you need to type up in a regular program (such as Microsoft Word, Wordpad, or Notepad) and just copy and paste it into the form. Works like magic!

It does? It's not supposed to.

Hey, I have a small suggestion. But i'm pretty sure it's something that's not really possible.

Basically, I thought it might be cool if we could perhaps have like a rating system for the videos. Where users can rate a video from 1-5 or something. Because, a lot of people don't comment on the videos they watch, so a rating system would maybe be used by more people and give the vidder a better idea of wether people like their video or not.

But, saying that, I have absolutely NO knowledge of how hard it would be to add something like that.

It would be pretty damn hard. But who knows where the future leads.

Ok, here goes:

A New award and contest:

Once every few months, it would be nice to see a contest with an award (Golden Newbie Award or something..use your imagination) just for new people who haven't made more than X amount of vids.

The reason I suggest this is that the same people tend to win the seals and then win the contests each month. I'm not knocking their work by all means, they do such excellent vids. BUT, some newbies can feel a bit intimidated to put their vids up or even enter a contest because they've come to know what they're up against, feel they have no chance whatever, so they don't enter. I think if there was something occassionally for the Newbs, I think more would submit vids and enter contests.

Because if you think about it, there have been people here who have made vids for a loooong time. They've harnessed their movie editing programs and they've come to have a broader expansion of creativity, while someone like myself is still learning the ropes of movie editing, and is still trying to gain that creativity. You know what I mean? It's like a new rock group trying to out-do Metallica, AC-DC, or the Rolling Stones. I'm not saying do it every week, every month or anything like that...but every once in awhile, give a chance for the newbies to have a chance against each other rather than against the very talented veterans. Just an every once in awhile thing, and lucky newbs get some shiny "Golden newbie" or "Silver Newbie" award. Nothing big..but something for newbies to look at and go "I'll definitely have a shot"

Like I said, it may draw more vids to your site and more entries into your contests. If newbs don't submit vids because they feel intimidated in the contests, or are let down because they didn't win, some may quit and they'll never really know how much talent they might actually have with more practice. Being in a new place where you're surrounded by such talented people who have been doing this awhile can be pretty overwhelming...it sure did make me nervous. A newbie contest thing might crack some outta their shells.

Just an idea.

That is a great idea. Defintely something we will consider. Like a best noob award for contests. Maybe for people who haven't got any gold CP's?
