I'm not a highly trained dancer by any means! xD but I'm the kinda person who learns quickly and is pretty easy to deal with in this stuff (for the most part). If you need me to do it, I'm willing to try (well in acting and stuff) so if they wanted to me to learn to dance 12 hours a day...well, maybe that's a bit much. You get what I mean. I could probably work out Frenchie's voice if I listened to it more and practiced. I think it's possible, I'm just not sure now. My singing voice goes from alto and used to be some soprano (not very high tho). When I was younger I used to sing ALOT and used to be relatively good, well..now I suck. lol! I let my voice go. Still, I'd love to be in a musical if i could, and woudln't be against taking lessons, but who has the time for all that? As it is, I'm goin to be taking 6 hours of theater arts a week.

Ok, back to vidding and the possible contest with the musical. Shoudl I try to lip sync all the line for Summer Nights that Sawyer and Kate will be saying? I don't really plan on doing the "tell me more's" and possibly not the other dialogue, tho I'd like to...it's just a big task for me. I've never tried lip syncing before. Tips?

The basic story is just the guys following Sawyer around, asking him for the details about he time he spends with Kate, and the same with Kate, except the girls. Pretty much what was in the movie.

Run a google search at a script site for words that rhyme or sound alike

Ie, for the last 'porn' in 'The Internet is For Porn,' from Whatever the Case May Be, Sawyer is actually saying 'stalk'(ing) - but it rhymes enough to work well.

Search for that would be: sawyer stalking site:lost-tv.com/transcripts

For Kate to say the word 'porn', it would be kate born site:lost-tv.com/transcripts - 'corn,' 'warn,' etc., would work as well.

Look for vowel sounds, not for consonants, unless there's something really obvious like a hissed S or something - the vowel sounds are what make or break a lip synch, as most people won't notice the consonants.

As far as lip synching all the dialogue, I would actually err on including more of the verses and less of the choruses. Also, you can have a line or so each verse sung 'offscreen' without breaking the illusion that they're actually singing it, so that's at least a few lines you don't have to worry about.

I'm not an expert by any means, but those are my suggestions. Go see 'Lost and Confused' in my profile for an earlier attempt at lip-synching. It's a lot more uneven, as I wasn't trying real hard, but certain parts (Locke's end monologue especially) work really well.

Another idea, as I'm listening to Woody Guthrie at the moment:

We should do a folk song contest. You must choose a song pre-1950 of the 'folk song' genre. It can be any culture or country, but it must be something recognizable from that country.

I would love to see what people would turn out for stuff like 'Frankie and Johnny' or 'Dan Tucker,' anyway. Yes, the idea probably brings back many bad memories of middle-school chorus (it does for me too), but it would be interesting.

just had a weird idea for comp idea, not sure what id call it so ill explain it. Pick a song written from a woman's/mans' POV, and then flip the content. Like using say, Bitch by meredith brooks, which is written from a woman's POV and using it in a vid for Charlie. Dunno if anyone else will like it, it just came to me

I really like the idea! It might be a bit tricky to find songs that are told from a woman's/man's POV (you know, rather than just sung by a female/male artist), but I think once you found a good song, it could be a lot of fun to make that kind of vid.
Will suggest this to my fellow CMs.
