Another idea (have y'all already done this?) - an instrumental video. No lyrics at all, and it cannot be a cover of a song with lyrics. (Ie, nobody doing the muzak cover of MacArthur Park, or something.)

If anyone wants to, I dare them to do this song for said contest. Because, oh my God, is it ever wonderful, in so many ways.

An idea just popped into my head, but it's like 2am, so it may be awful. Bear with me.

Has the site ever done a contest for a vid solely based around a flashback character? Such as Cassidy/Jae Lee/Liam/etc. True, many of them are minor, but Cassidy was on for a few episodes, 2 for Sawyer and 1 for Kate I believe, so it may be possible to make a vid about her. It sounds hard, but it just came into my mind while I was lying in bed. It can include other characters of course, but the song/storyline has to be centered around them, not the main character in the show (such as, if you do one on Cass, Sawyer can be a main character. Charlie can be a main character if you do one on Liam) but still the song has to pertain to the fb character. Good? Bad? Too hard?

Btw, Casssidy and Liam...possibly Cooper...Christian...sound the most plausible, but if you have enough footage (and it doesn't have to be that long - 2 mins or whatev) you could do it with a few different characters if you put your mind to it. I think.

I really like some of these ideas guys!

1. The idea about doing a video without effects really intrigues me. I'd like to see what some of our council members could come up with only relying on cuts, fades, and dissolves. I think that most people rely to heavily on effects when it actually distracts from the awesome footage from the show. Although I think we can allow BASIC effects like slomo and speed up. But then again I don't know. Maybe well just get a lot of boring videos.

2. I like the flashback character vid idea. Anthony Cooper, Penny, and Helen are also a great characters for that as well. Christian Shepard is also the flashback king.

3. I'm all for an off island contest. I suggested something similar to that a while back.

as for the One-Song-Fits-All contest, I think it's too limiting. Yes It's great to see a different take on a song, but depending on how many people enter we could end up with lots and lots of the same boring video.

Good. So it wasn't just 2am delirium. And I cannot believe that I forgot about Christian or even Cooper. Christian would be the easiest to vid...in fact, that sounds like an interesting idea. I may think about that one.

As the person who suggested it, my take on it: You can only use slomo/speed up if it isn't obvious. Otherwise, then it qualifies as an effect. I'm not sure where to draw the line, but: If it's just to make the footage fit, cool. But if it's to make the footage look entirely different, that strikes me as a qualified effect.

That's the whole point of why it's challenging, heh. Can a given person have an interesting and accomplished video without effects, where everyone is on the same playing field? I want to see what happens here.

Nadia as well - she's popped up several times this season in different characters' flashbacks, and in Sayid's flashback in 'Solitary.' Jae Lee has been in several of the Kwons' flashbacks, as well as Sun's father. I also think a video focusing on Hurley's mom would be hilarious. Ahem.

That's why it's important to choose a good song that fits everyone. I am not sure what would work, but it struck me as being an interesting idea, so I figured I would toss it out there and see if it stuck. I'm personally more interested in the no-effects contest suggestion, though.

I had an idea earlier like the disney theme there was a while back, why not have a contest where you can only use a song which is in a musical. So it would be Lost Musicals lol. Use music from like Rent, Wicked, Annie, Cinderella, Chicargo. You get the point

flashback character contest sounds solid. I was kinda looking for a twist for one of my vids and making it Chritsian Shepard based could be the perfict one. I like the musical one too. Though it would be tricky, and we would get allot of vids with really bad lyp synch, though i would like to see a west side story one of the others vs the losties.

Charlie, honestly, if they take up the idea for the musicals, I might actually get my butt going on the Sawyer vid I've got an idea for... otherwise God knows it'll sit on a backburner for a long while.

lol, i got the idea in my head because i had an idea while i was on holiday to do a kate/juliet video with a song from 'wicked' and i'm downloading Hairspray so i'm in a musical mode

if it did happen i would be claming 'what is this feeling' from wicked
