She manipulated him, though, didn't she? She had him under her thumb in the Enchanted Forest, so when the curse happened, he was still under her thumb, even if he didn't know why. Kind of like what she did with Graham. Kind of. Obviously what she did to Graham was worse. Anyway, I think Sidney won't necessarily follow her every order anymore. I doubt she has as much control over him as she used to.
SO EXCITED TO MEET CAPTAIN HOOK OMG I'VE BEEN WAITING ALL SEASON!! _________________

NO!!!! I really didn't like that Rumple was the one to take his hand; I was hoping we'd get to meet Peter Pan. I mean I had a strong feeling that they were going to go that route because Rumple has his hand in pretty much everything going on with the story...but I was hoping for a different outcome.
I was hoping we were going to see more of Captain Hook. I'm sure he's where Snow/Emma are.
I'm not a Rumple fan but his wife was HORRIBLE to him when he was a man. |

I think if we'd met Peter Pan in this episode that would've been way too much plot for just one episode - especially since this was a Rumple-centric episode. I'm sure we'll meet Peter soon enough.
We'll see more of Captain Hook, I'm sure! I know for the second half of the season Colin O'Donoghue's been bumped up to a regular rather than a recurring star, so that's promising! And it looks, from the promo, like he'll be meeting Snow and Emma and their crew in the next episode! I feel like we didn't actually learn much about Hook tonight. So I hope they give us more about him in the next few eps.
I actually love Rumple - but I don't hate Milha. I think she was kind of like Belle, in a way - she wanted adventure, to see the world, etc etc. And Rumple couldn't give her that, but Hook could. I really liked the Hook/Milha relationship, actually. It was horrible that Rumple killed her. _________________

I didn't hate her but I didn't care for her as a character either. I thought what she did to her Rumple and her own son was cruel. The way she spoke to and about her husband, I felt sorry for him. They led him to believe she was going to be raped by these men. I thought she was more of a coward then he was. I understand he couldn't offer her those things; but she also had a child; and if she didn't want to be part of their world then she should have owned up to it and said so; instead of leading them to believe she she was going to be tortured and possibly killed.
I didn't think we needed to meet Peter but I was disappointed they had Rumple take off his hand. I'm assuming since Rumple removed his hand that Peter wont be introduced into their version of the stories; since Peter is the reason Hook doesn't have a hand. |

I'm shocked they gave Dr. Whale away in the promo. I'm thrilled he's not a fish.
[spoiler:cb50689f90] He is Dr. Frankenstein!!!!!! I did NOT see that coming. I do think it's interesting that most people missed DR and looked more at 'Whale'; thinking that was part of what or who he was. I think the episode looks really amazing; poor Regina...with Daniel returning as something 'else'. I'm worried for her; It looks like they're doing a bit of a Halloween episode; interesting.
I'm SO relieved that he's not a whale or a fish or a part man and fish and that Whale was simply just a name.
So thrilled to see some form of Daniel closure for Regina...I think it's going to be a thrilling and heartbreaking episode.
Also I could be wrong about the no Pan thing; A LOT of people are speculating that Bae (Rumple's son) is Peter Pan. [/spoiler:cb50689f90]
I SHOULD like Rumple but it's hard for me. I feel sorry for him A LOT; but in one episode I end up feeling sorry for him and then I am back to hating him. I am glad he's finally understanding he has a problem with magic; but he seems to acknowledge something but then goes right back to being what drives me nuts about him; ruthless and horrific. |

I felt sorry for Rumple, too. I think he did care for her, even if she didn't care for him. And she should have cared for her son. It was cowardly what she did, but what Rumple did to her is unforgivable. He could have just let her go rather than killing her. And now he's made himself a major enemy in Hook.
[spoiler:3cc9d26662]I had thought Whale might be Frankenstein. That's a theory that's been going around for awhile - and actually, "Whale" is a bit of a clue, if you dig deep enough. The movie adaptation of Frankenstein that came out in 1931 was directed by a man named James Whale. So there's a little fun fact for ya.
I'm sure we're going to meet Peter Pan at some point. I don't personally think he's Bae, though...[/spoiler:3cc9d26662] _________________

I'm just really excited about Captain Hook oh my god
okay actually if I'm 100% honest I was hoping Hook would be a little more, you know, EVIL, since he is in the original novel, but hey, Once Upon a Time likes to make its villains sympathetic, so I'll give them that.
I figured Rumple would be the one to cut off his hand. I was waiting for it all episode.
I didn't really have strong feelings either way about Milha, but I felt awful that Rumple killed her. That was so terrible, and Hook was genuinely upset, I think he DID really care about her.
I can't believe the promo gave Whale away. Oh well. Next week's episode looks fantastic! _________________

I was expecting Hook to be more evil, too. But I think present-day Hook could be pretty nasty. I actually like that they gave him a damn good reason to be evil, rather than Cora who's just kind of evil for the sake of evil. I could see him maybe teaming up with Emma and co. and turning against Cora, actually. Because he doesn't care about the Charmings or Regina, he just wants revenge on Rumple, very rightly. But I suppose we'll see! I'm very excited to see where they go with him! _________________

I think this episode explained so much about why Rumple is the way he is. He always comes off as possesive and seeing the way his wife left him and their son, that now makes more sense. It also makes sense why he pushes Belle away. He let love in once and all he got was pain, so he's afraid to let Belle in because what's to stop her from leaving him.
I don't really care for Milah. To an extent I can understand why she left Rumple. If you don't love someone, you shouldn't be with them. But the way she left was wrong. I feel sorry for Bae. What kind of mother abandons their child like that? That makes Regina look like 'Mother of the Year'.
While I agree that it was wrong for Rumple to kill Milah, I think it is interesting the way he did it, especially from a symbolic stand point. Milah figuratively ripped out and crushed Rumple's heart when she abandoned him and Bae, so he literally ripped out and crushed hers.
I thought it was kind of predictable, but I liked that Rumple was the one to take Hook's arm.
I have wondered if in some ways Henry was going to be Peter Pan. He could be the little boy who never grew up.

That's a neat fact. That's probably where they got Whale's name from. I think it will be interesting seeing him in that role.
[spoiler:6db96fdc4e]I just hope they don't go too far with this mad scientist, mixing bodies thing.[/spoiler:6db96fdc4e]
I love the idea that Belle will now be the librarian. I had been hoping that was the job she'd take. I'm surprised that no one in the town seems to know who she is (besides her dad). Since they once had a kingdom, I thought her name would at least be a little familiar to other towns people.

I was expecting more suspense this episode; but over all I enjoyed it.
It's always nice to see the softer side of Regina; I always cringe when she lies because I fear it'll just come back to haunt her; but I think it's just in her nature.
Her scene with Dankenstein monster; was touching and heartbreaking. And I hope him telling her to let him go; will help her to move on. I just felt so sorry for her.
I LOVED Jefferson this episode. He was just a blast.
I wasn't a fan of Rumple this episode. I felt bad for Regina; I think things could have turned out differently for her.
But it was interesting how he wanted to go to a place without magic...must be for his son.
I loved the parallels between Regina/Cora; the heart scenes; the difference is I think Regina might start to reform after Daniel. |

I was nervous about the Frankenstein storyline, but I liked the way they did it. It felt like Whale's version of Dr. Frankenstein has alot more heart (no pun intended) than the mad scientist version I'm used to seeing. He comes off as a man who just wants to save his brother, not someone who wants to make a monster.

Dankenstein...I love that! I really enjoyed that scene. It was nice to see the softer side of Regina and see that even though she's been corrupted alot by evil over the years, she still has a soft spot for Daniel. He was one of the few people who could reach the true Regina. I'm enjoying seeing a more sympathetic side of her.
One question I was left with after this episode is why did Rumple want Regina to learn magic? What's in it for him? Rumple,Whale, and Jefferson were discussing how they'd made Regina a monster. Why would Rumple want to create a monster? I just don't understand his logic in essentially creating his own worst enemy. The only person in Storybrooke who rivals his power is Regina and the only person he can blame for that is himself.
I'm looking forward to the next episode. I'm curious to learn more about Emma's past. I can't wait to see Jorge as the Giant!

I liked how they handled Whale. Although I still find him creepy. lol.
But I thought the entire episode was going to be more suspenseful with Daniel being back from the dead.
I did like how they handled him though; I'm glad he wasn't a 'monster' and she was able to reach him; because I think had she had to been forced to kill the 'monster' it'd be harder for her to overcome; I think the fact that she was able to say goodbye and he was able to tell her to move on; was the best for her.
I hope that she reallly is using Jiminy's help and not using him.
I don't now what that was all about. It made me lose more respect for Rumple and Jefferson in the end.
I feel even more sorry for Regina. She really was pushed into becoming this monster. So in a way Whale did create a monster.
Yeah I don't understand any of their logic because they all three seem to hate her now, and it's really their own fault. |

Why does Dr. Whale have an american accent now he has his memories back? I'm confused how some people seem to have the same name in both Storybrooke and fairytale land like Jefferson aswell. Frankenstein is a story that doesn't seem to be fit really so was disappointed with that.
I really like Hook too. Apparently he's been made a series regular so that's cool. _________________

I didn't think it fit either. And his bsckdtory made me think less of him then I previously did.
Yeah I don't understand his the accents work either.
I could care less about Sleeping Beauty. She grates on my nerves. The only reason I was happy she was going to be introduced was because of a chance Kristin would be BA k as Malificant. |

Well, if the flashbacks in that episode were supposed to be after the whole Hook thing, and the whole "Bae leaving FTL" thing, than I believe that he needed her to become this monster to set the whole curse thing into motion.
He already admitted to Belle, that he had searched the realms for a way to come to our world, and that the only thing he found was the curse. He didn't have anything he loved to sacrfice, so he needed SOMEONE to enact the curse, and he knew that Regina would be powerful enough to do so. We don't really know how long it had been between Bae coming to our world and him starting to "train" Regina, but that's my guess.
He did it because he needed to get to our world, and Regina was his best option. Rumple doesn't do anything without a reason, so there is a reason why he wanted to turn her into a monster. |
