| Belle MacFarlane wrote: | | I really liked this week's episode. Ruby is one of my favourite characters so it's great to get some more light on her. I loved the twist of her being the wolf; did not expect that. At first when I saw the footprints going to the house I thought Granny was the wolf. Speaking of, how much of a bamf is Granny?! When she sat facing the door with a crossbow I thought, I would not like to cross her on a bad day! Also very interesting twist at the end with Mary Margaret's fingerprints being on the box. No doubt planted there by Regina. Also like the idea of Red's cloak being to stop her from becoming the wolf. Although that kind of throws off the whole of the original story, but that seems to be the whole point of Once Upon A Time, and I love it. |
I thought this was a good episode too. That was a cool twist with Red being the wolf. I liked the reveal that Granny and Red's mom also were wolves at one point or another. I like how they reinterpret these stories.
I liked seeing the origins of Red and Snow's friendship. Really liked how Snow's alias was her name in Storybrooke.
I liked that they branched out Ruby's character. She has alot more depth to her than they had previously shown us.She has been somewhat mysterious, so it was nice to learn more about her. I like that even in Storybrooke she is a great tracker. It seems like most of these characters retain some important trait from their other life.
I wonder who the wizard was who gave Granny the cloak? At first I thought Rumplestiltskin, but it seemed like maybe it was someone else.
Was Red's boyfriend Peter a reference to Peter and the Wolf?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_and_the_Wolf
August continues to be a mystery.I wonder if Nepal was supposed to be a clue or just another random detail to throw us off track?
How did Regina plant Mary Margret's fingerprints on that box? I personally think she switched the records, possibly so Kathryn's or her own prints would show up as Mary's.
Is there any significance to the name Ms Ginger? That was who Ruby talked to while answering phones for Emma. Wonder if that is some other, yet unexplored fairytale character?
Next week looks interesting.Looks like we'll be seeing a much darker side of Snow White.

I enjoyed Heart of Darkness,I thought it was a good episode. This had by far the best transitions between scenes/flashbacks that I have seen thus far on the show. I hope they keep that up.
Thought it was humorous that Jiminy Cricket and the dwarves held an intervention for Snow White.
It was good to see Red again. I liked that she is now using her wolf ability for the good of her friends. To me Red plays kind of a spirit guide role, as she is trying to help people like Prince Charming and Snow find one another.I think that as the show expands we may see that she has helped other characters out.
Loved that Snow told Prince she would always find him. (Gave me a big Desmond/Penny vibe.)
August continues to puzzle me as to who he really is.In this episode his comment to Henry about 'as real as me'. That almost makes it sound like he's Pinnochio. Pinnochio, being a wooden boy probably would fall under different rules from his fellow flesh and blood fairytale friends. When Gepetto built the wardrobe to send Emma away, would he have somehow sent Pinnochio away?
I am curious whether Mr. Gold has any of his potions in his shop, or if they all went missing or are worthless due to the curse.
How is it that David can't tell Mary and Snow apart.I mean I know she's one in the same, but she looks and dresses differently. In his flash didn't he notice the long hair, or rustic outfit?
It was kind of funny how David looked right at Regina and told her how he did not think she was evil. She must have put the curse down extra heavy on him.He just seems so clueless.
I think the line about if Snow killed the queen she would become just as evil, was very important.I think this is huge for the overall story.I don't think they can kill Regina in Storybrooke either.I think the person who did it would become just as evil.So either they just capture her and defeat her, or she'd have to be the cause of her own death in some roundabout way. I think this is Regina's failsafe, that her curse and evilness would live on in someone else.

I thought it was interesting they focused on the Mad Hatter, rather than Alice.I liked that choice. Jefferson was an interesting new character and hopefully we'll see more of him. I do hope we get to meet their version of Alice eventually though. I personally think it would be neat if Alice turned into the Queen of Hearts.I think they'll make Alice more like Snow and not quite as sweet and innocent as we'd expect.
That beheading scene made me cringe a little. But I appreciate that they kept it from being gory.I like that they've kept the continuity and had the characters in Storybrooke retain the scars from incidents in the Fairytale land.
I liked the ending where Emma is finally starting to believe that Henry's stories may be more than fiction. I think she was able to relate to Jefferson, and the feeling of not knowing your child. She's been able to connect with Henry, but his daughter doesn't even know who he is.
I think it is a nice contrast that while Lost had alot of stories about parental issues from the kids point of view, Once seems to be more from the parents point of view. (Jefferson- Grace/Paige, Emma- Henry,Rumplestiltskin and his son, etc) This theme of parents being seperated from the child by choice or by curse seems to be emerging as a theme.
Loved that a little bit of Snow's fighting spirit showed up in Mary as she fought with Jefferson.

I am glad we are getting close to finding out who August really is. I've been leaning more and more toward Pinochio. He told Emma she'd know if he was lying, his strange leg injury, his donkey paper weight all seem to hint to Pinochio. When I think of Pinochio I think of him lying and part of lying is making up stories. And August is a writer, so he makes up stories for a living. That would a clever way to incorporate a characteristic of Pinochio into his Storybrooke self.
I really liked all the twists and turns in the episode. When August called Gold papa, I thought I had been wrong to change my mind to him being Pinochio.
I believe that Gold's son will turn out to be Henry's father.I think that would be a really cool twist.
I think I spotted a Lost number in the episode. When August got onto his motorcycle, it looked like the back had the number 23 on it.

The Stranger was probably one of my favorite episodes. I loved that we finally found out August true identity and that he was also the young boy who found Emma.
The CGI Pinochio (before he became a real boy) was probably one of Once's best CGI effects.
I thought the plane flying over baby Emma and Pinochio was a cool nod to Lost. As was August mentioning it was 8:15 in Phuket when he realized Emma had returned to Storybrooke.
I think that instead of convincing Emma to believe in her destiny, August has pushed her back into her old ways. I thought it was interesting that Emma's stubborn denial made her blind to seeing that August's leg was turning to wood. The whole sequence with August telling Emma about how they came into this world and her purpose, was one of my favorite scenes overall.

Wow, the ending was really good! I'm almost surprised they didn't leave us with that as a cliff hanger.
[spoiler:5cc45e2504] I think Henry's collapse was the final straw needed to get Emma to start believing in this curse. She finally has proof he's been right all along.
It's just sad that it had to come to Henry sacrificing himself to get her to believe. [/spoiler:5cc45e2504]
The scene with Regina at the beginning of the episode was really cool. I think her conscience ( if she has one) is beginning to catch up with her. I'm curious if a scene similar to this will play out when the curse is broken
It is kind of sad that the things Regina loves most, she is also the quickest to sacrfice, and all in the name of revenge. She killed her own father to get the curse to work. She threw away her ring, her last link to Daniel so she could get the poison apple. Mr. Gold keeps saying all magic comes with a price.
And now with what happened to Henry,Regina risks paying the ultimate price, just because she is so desperate to get revenge on Snow and now Emma.
And poor August, turning back into a wooden puppet again. I hope Emma starts to believe in the curse soon so that maybe she can save him. I really like August, I don't want him to die or whatever happens when he becomes a wooden puppet again.

That is so well said! It's really amazing, isn't it? [spoiler:f1704acfad]And it was pretty risky to send her kid's biological mom home with a poisoned dessert item, not knowing if Henry might somehow end up having some. She's so blinded by hate and revenge that she doesn't think straight.
I hope you're right about August, too. Love him![/spoiler:f1704acfad] _________________

Wow! Amazing finale! It really did leave me wondering where they can go from here. It played out almost like a series finale. I have been really surprised at how quickly they have moved the plot along.
[spoiler:ef459f8449] I did not expect the curse to be broken or people to start remembering until at least next season.[/spoiler:ef459f8449]
The rest of this I'm putting under spoilers as not to ruin the episode for anyone.
[spoiler:ef459f8449] I am so glad Emma finally believes! It has been a little frustrating how much she had fought her destiny.Loved the Lost-esque flashes of memory she had. Reminded me of the flash -sideways. I'm looking forward to the reunion between Emma and her parents. (That scene with Mary reading to Henry, was so sweet.)
Also loved the little Apollo bar in Henry's bag.
I liked the editing of Emma vs the dragon and Prince Charming vs the dragon.
I wonder how many other enemies of Regina's have been brought to this land as various creatures. And for as much as she hates Snow, why not turn her into a dragon or something. Certainly would have made it much harder for her to get a happy ending.
I was very worried they were actually going to kill Henry.I like Henry. The kid who plays him is a good actor, IMO. Loved that true loves kiss is what was needed to save Henry. It was great that Emma did not need magic( like was in the egg), she just needed to believe and to love her son with all her heart. That scene got to me. ( Also a nice nod to the episode airing on Mother's Day, that a mother's love saved her child.)
I liked that we got to see a more vulnerable side of Regina as she realized her power was slipping away. I did feel a little bad for her as she told Henry she does love him. I think Henry is the only thing left that Regina does truely love. As much as she loves Henry, she loves power and vengence more.
Now that Emma knows the truth,I think Regina will mostly give up the battle for Henry. It would be a petty battle within a much larger war.
I really hoped that when Emma started to believe that she could save August. They have to find a way to save him. They already took Graham away from us.( Great to see him again.Liked that he helped Charming find Snow.)
I'm an Emma/August shipper so I hope she can eventually save him. But this time she had to chose true love and that's Henry.I think if she had truely loved August she probably could have kissed him and saved him.
I liked seeing David and Mary finally realize who they are and get back together. I hope that in season 2 David will be a more likeable character.I really want to like him, but sometimes his actions make it really hard to root for him and Mary. I like him as Prince Charming much more than as David.
Yay, Belle is back! They need to make Emilie a series regular. When Gold is with Belle, you can actually see the man has a heart.
Why would Gold restore magic to Storybrooke? He'd won, Regina was powerless. Can't wait for next season and seeing what the purple smoke will bring to Storybrooke.[/spoiler:ef459f8449]
I am looking forward to seeing what they do with season 2. They resolved alot of stuff, but that ending makes me wonder what is next. I really liked the 8:15 bit at the end. At some point we need to meet Baelfire. Perhaps his reappearance will have a similar effect as Emma's did.

I stumbled upon a cool little bit of Once trivia yesterday.
Lana Parrilla who plays Regina/Evil Queen on OUAT played an Other named Greta on Lost.
http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Greta
So this makes Lana at least the third person on OUAT to have previously appeared on Lost. (Emilie de Ravin and Alan Dale, being the other 2).
I think it would be cool if they incorporated some more former Losties, even if they came from minor roles like Lana had.

I think season two sounds promising. Emilie will make a great addition to the cast. Looking forward to seeing how they incorporate the new princesses: Aurora and Mulan.

That's too bad, Summer. I hope you're able get ABC back and see OUAT again soon.
I'd like to rewatch the first season before season 2 starts this fall. I'm hoping OUAT's Comic-Con panel reveals some cool teases for next season. Though it seems they've already made most of the big reveals already.
