Random facts:
The fruit Hurley crashed during the high-speed chase was guava, the first and only fruit they had found on the island to eat. Also, Randy was video-taping Hurley getting out of the car in the chase and everything. _________________

ok, downloaded this ep yesterday and watched it last night; i couldnt bare waiting til thursday to watch it over here! note to anyone who cares; i remained spoiler free! although techincally watching it early is spoilering...but not really cos i knew nothing about it going into it...anyway; i was thrilled to see Jack in Hurley's flashforward; he looked so cute. wonder when he gets all drugged out...round the same time he realizes they do have to go back.
ok so im just gonna randomly squee at things now; forgive me if they've been covered.
OH MY GOD, CHARLIE!! took me a sec to realize that was him in hurley's flashforward. how hot did he look? gorgeous man; that one Oceanic six...so hurley, kate, jack and ??? i hope ones claire cos i want her to get off the island with aaron, but on the other hand id be thrilled if she stayed on the island with Sawyer!!
Have I not been saying for years now ConMama will happen? come on; sawyer and claire living in the barracks together!!! its gonna happen people; you know it *let me dream*
Jate hug; yay! although she did steal the phone but it was still sweet to see.
claire's reaction to charlie's death *clutches heart* my god. ive been waiting for so long to see it and it didn't disapoint; i cried my little eyes out.
in short; loved it all! perfect season opener! cant wait til the next ep
and nice pick up LordXwee; i love little things like that _________________

I ADORE this show
Man, it's eps like this that I realize just how much I love the characters in Lost. With other shows, it's rare that I care so much, but in this... man. Every time they said a line, every time they chose a 'side'... ah, I just loved it.
For example: "Same thing I've always done, Kate. Survivin'": Ah Sawyer... how thou art amazing.
I love flashforwards. I just love them. This was the first Hurley episode that didn't feel like filler. It was PERFECT, in fact, that this was Hurley's ep - and not Jack or Locke or whatever. He took the tragedy of Charlie's death and brought it to the story. Not only did it bring this fantastic emotional element to the ep - and hopefully more eps - but it sparked the whole Sides thing. Amazing. I love this show.
Locke killed someone. He was convinced she was the enemy - and perhaps she was - but he still killed her. That's a huge. Especially since he's never done something like that before. He was one of the few "innocents", in that way.
And Jack... he 'killed' someone too. He tried to kill Locke. That too is intense. But I find it so much more disturbing.
You see, while Locke's entire motive was solely based on a vision, he had a reason for killing Naomi. He had to do it, to "save" everyone else. Meanwhile... Jack was straight-up performing a cold-blooded execution. He didn't need to kill Locke, he could have just tied him up - or what have you. But his anger and helplessness led him to try and shoot Locke.
I don't think it was because he was just mad at Locke killing Naomi. I think it was the fact that Jack just didn't want to accept the possibility he was wrong. He didn't want to listen to anymore. He acted on pure emotion - no logic, no good reason.
And that is why I choose Locke over Jack.
As strange as Locke may be, everything he does has a reason. Everything he does makes sense, at least to him. And I love that about him. He never does something without thinking about it carefully. He never just reacts wildly. He's so... inhuman that way. It's fascinating.
The Hurley cannonball thing - I loved it. That was just such a gorgeous shot lol. So fitting. And then as soon as he gets out of the water - chaos erupts. Very nice.
Everyone's reaction to Charlie's death:
I appreciated Hurley's the most. Though I liked Claire's bit of denial to it - shaking her head 'no'.
Sawyer's reaction was superb. Though I gotta say it was kinda unfitting with his attitude the rest of that "day" (recall: he killed a guy in cold blood, and was totally angsty to Kate).
Jacob and the eye:
That was totally Christian Shephard - he's even in the credits! It's looking more and more like Jacob can take the form of the dead. Interesting.
The eye looks like Locke's. http://lost.cubit.net/archives/2008/02/a-closer-look-inside-the-cabin.php#more
But yeah, such a great episode. I missed Lost. |

i agree warren; that is definately christian in the chair. and that eye does look suspicously like Locke's when you look at those picks.
I don't think I can pick either Jack or Locke in that scenario of them killing someone...to me both had justified it in their heads. locke wants them to stay on the island because he believes theyre in danger if they leave. whereas jack has had it in for locke since boone died. i dunno who id go with if i was there....as much as i hate locke; id probably stay based on what hurley said about charlie. his last thought was to tell the others that it wasn't pennys boat; that they naomi isnt who she says she is. had charlie survived; he wouldn't have gone with jack. that being said...rescue is rescue, isn't it? _________________

Jesus Christ Elle now that was a post. Just got done reading it.. Are you sure you're not thinking of SOS with the final scene Glad you enjoyed the ep! And yeah that Hurley speech was killer about Charlie.
The eye itself in shape looks like Locke but its the wrong colour and his face contours are different. What can I say I have a good eye myself
I guess the Jack attempted murder was more like when Sawyer killed Tom and put these two guys closer even more. It really shocked me though the expression on his face aswell he was so angry! lol _________________

I freakin' LOVE Lost.
My little Jatey heart was racing at the 'hug' - they were sooooooooooo undressing each other with their eyes throughout that whole ep And I love how even though Kate's been bunking with Sawyer, she stayed with Jack. That, to me, is love right there.
Claire and Hurley just had me in tears - Jorge's acting in this episode was nothing short of stunning and superb. I agree with Warren; this was the first of his episodes that didn't feel like filler (and I like how they had a Hurley-centric as the first episode of season FOUR), and I also like that the detective dude mentioned Ana Lucia - it keeps bringing it back around to one of the central themes, that these people are all inexplicably and undeniably linked in some way or another.
Re: the theory of Jacob taking on the form of the dead, that's actually one theory I hadn't heard before (not that I do much theorizing myself; I prefer to sit back, read other people's theories and comment accordingly), but I do like it. Christian is dead - that much we know. Jack may have been dehydrated and extremely stressed when he was seeing him waaaaay back in season one (which DOES feel like one hundred years ago ), but I don't think that it was just an hallucination; let's face it - nothing on LOST is ever exactly as it seems. It also restores a little of my faith in the show itself (which never entirely waned, but was shaking there for a little while); if Jacob can take on the forms of the dead, then it means that White Rabbit wasn't an entirely pointless episode and that the writers HAVE indeed had a plan right from the beginning.
I'm sorry, I gotta say this, I will never like Locke. Yes, he may have been right about the people coming to the island not being exactly who they said they were, and yes, Hurley may have followed his lead (which, obviously, turned out to be a wrong move - re: flash-forward), but I will always be a Jack girl at heart, and I was so annoyed when the gun turned out to not be loaded. Forgive me for saying so, but I just do not like Locke. He annoys me too much.
And speaking of annoying - Ben! *buuuuuuuurn* That's all I gotta say on that matter.
In short; I love Lost, I hate Locke, cannot wait for the next episode! _________________

*nods* I agree with Hobbes, Locke did do his killing for a reason. Even though it's for sorta a crazy island-y reason.
"I think it was the fact that Jack just didn't want to accept the possibility he was wrong."
Yes. Jack thinks like that- he always wants to fix something. Now he thinks he's going to fix everything and get them off the island, and that's all he cares about. He doesn't want to hear the other people say that it's bad, since he still believes it's good.
I can say I never liked Jack. When they were getting towards the end of season 3 he kept getting worse. Everybody didn't trust him, he was always hanging around Juliet, and he didn't even listen to anyone really if they tried to consult. And he almost shot Locke. *twitch* He's the insane one. Then again, Locke wouldn't die if he got shot in the face. Go Jacob.
Ben still looks like he needs a hug. _________________

I think if Jack had killed Locke he would have regretted it later... if he did it it would have been out of intense anger of the moment... what really triggered (ha) him was when Locke was saying, "Come on Jack, you're not going to shoot me." or whatever. That usually pisses people off.
I still love Locke as a character, but if I was on the island i'm not sure I would trust him. I love him though, and if he ever dies i'll be seriously distraught. _________________ <3 Jourdan

I know, I'm in such denial, but I don't really think that Charlie is totally dead...I know right how can someone not be fully dead lol... I think someone said this earlier and I thought the same thing, Hurley wasn't the only one to see Charlie, the other patient told him that some guy was staring at him. No one else could see Dave on the island or off, but yet someone could see Charlie, how would that happen if Hurley was imagining him??? Maybe he really was there...he did say
"I am dead...but I'm also here"
Is there any way he could be dead on the island but still alive in the future? Probably not, but like I said...I’m in denial.
Sorry I just had to vent. _________________ Morgan

Well, if the cloning theory is true, then it is a possibility! I would love for Charlie not to be completely dead! _________________

Exactly. Ironic in a way that this whole time we've been hit over the head with 'Man of Science' vs. 'Man of Faith', and that Jack bases all his actions on scientific evidence while Locke goes on instinct and faith. Now the tables have turned, and evidence and logic is on Locke's side while Jack reacts purely out of no logic but emotion. That's going to come back and bite him in the ass.
I really loved this episode and can't wait for the next one. Hurley telling Claire about Charlie's death was very sad. _________________
