As far as breaking up the chorus for beat use, how would you suggest it be done? This is my best stab at breaking up the words for max beat use, but I'm curious if you'd change the scansion:

From the foaming breakers / to the poisonous / surf
The other / side / of sum / mer
Through the burning forests / and the hills of / Astroturf
The other / side / of sum / mer

Looks quite good to me. I'd probably go with The Other / Side Of / Summer, i.e. I wouldn't necessarily split the "summer" bit into two parts. When I'm working on the beat use in my vids (and heck, I'm struggling with the beats of a song often enough... I'm far away from being a beat use expert!) I go by either the heavy and quite obvious beats or I try to divide the song into lyrics sections which (hopefully ) make sense for the interpretation. (Uh, ok, sorry... that was probably a bit to complicated. ) What I basically mean is that I wouldn't really split "summer" because it's a major and important part of the song and thus I would use one particular, meaningful clip only for that bit.

(Do I make any sense? Sorry, I'm quite tired at the moment and actually about to go to bed, so that's probably why I'm not able to express myself properly anymore... )

Probably just some jealous prick. Unfortunately, there seem to be quite a lot of them. I'm still all upset about that guy who stole my "Everything" vid.

Thanks! The Shannon one didn't catch my eye, but the Sayid one was one of the ones, as well as the 'other side of summer' at the end with the bare feet - that felt a little draggy to me. So you get a score of 50%.

As far as the faster/changing clips for the yeah/yeah, I thought about that but was already working with about 50 billion different clips for people and wasn't too twigged by it, so decided to let that go.

As far as the shattered glass transition, I was worried about using it too much, which is why I put it once about halfway through and once at the end. Glad the white flashes were effective, though, as they were intentionally only repetitively used just at the end with the laundry list from 'the mightiest rose' to 'kiss goodbye to the earth,' to add to that sense of just a list of things.

So let me know (again) if you'd like. And no worries on the lateness - just wasn't sure if you had forgotten.

ETA: Hooray! Someone rated it as a one-star video just to be petty. Way to go, Ace Anonymous. You're awesome.

    Hey there,
sorry for being so awfully late ( ), but here it is at last.

I re-watched your vid right now and I noticed that it's basically the beginning of the vid that could've done with some a lil' bit more beat use. The ending is just fine
The clips that caught my attention in particular were the ones with Sayid running towards the Others' camp with a gun in his hand (at about 00:30) and the clip of Shannon at about 00:57. They were simply a bit long, IMO. I reckon they could be a tad shorter or, in the case of the Shannon clip, maybe you could've used some other shots of the same scene (reaction of the other Losties or some more of Sayid maybe?).

You know, I love good and heavy beat use and so I thought that the "yeah yeah" bits as well as the chorus could've done with a bit more beat use, too. For example with even more and faster changing clips. But that's just my personal taste, really.

As already mentioned, the beat use got much stronger from about the middle of the vid onwards. I liked the shattered glass transition and you certainly could've used that more often because it was quite effective. Same goes for the white flashes. Too many white flashes can be annoying, of course, but they worked pretty well here.

All in all though, it's definitely a wonderful and absolutely enjoyable vid! Great work!

I took a tiny french course last year, and I all I know that you said was "desolee" I believe it means "sorry" right?

Anyways, I believe this song was pretty good for a Lost video! I really liked the song, and I love Elvis Costello too. You really did well on this, especially matching the beats such as the "yeah, yeah, .." parts. Also matching the lyrics was so well done, my favorite was "unwanted birthday" and "mad man by the end of the road" that whole scene with Dave and Hurley, just awesome with the lyrics. Nice job!!

Aussi, si tu as une question particuliere au sujet des mots, demandez-moi y si je sais, je repondrai. (Je suis desolee; ma langue francais est un peu inutilisee. )

Sure thing. Vote or not as you will! Just used it as an example, anyway. The actual video is here, if it sheds light on any of the lyrics. NB: It's slow as heck to load at first, not sure why. Also, Elvis C. has a ridiculous beard in the video, so go ahead and laugh at that. It was during his 'Beard Years,' heh.

Nice lyric interpretation. However, the sound on my computer is not great and I couldn't understand a lot of the lyrics (that English not being my first language) so I'll refrain from voting. Hope you understand.

Uh, I could have picked Claire. But it would have been a much more dramatic crying, which wouldn't have worked for the lyrics.

I needed a long shot of oceans/surf which had some level of threat in it. Showing him doing the whole Dread-Pirate-Roberts-climbing-up-a-cliff thing worked fine for me! Haha.

    Thanks again!

you do do well with the dark lyrics. but i liked this, really fitting. and sayid being heroic at the beginning, as he is, was lovely!! :D shannon, the crying teenager, perfect who else could you pick?

Kaja: Thanks! Yeah, the lyric interpretation is rather cruel, but so is the song, and I generally do well with dark lyrics. Like I've said before, pretty much all of Elvis Costello's catalog could work lyrically for 'Lost' in some way.

As far as beat use, mind pointing out the places? I found a few spots and I'm curious if we're thinking of the same ones, so hell, it wouldn't hurt.
