Okay, this animation is really cruddy quality, but I tried uploading the 10 MB Quicktime version to putfile for only an only 6-second vid and it would have caused suicide for anyone trying to watch it. But I made this swimming flipping dolphin for my 3d animation class. Enjoy.

Gorgeous! How do you manage to get such beautifully fluid motion?! That is almost completely impossible in my program (Cinema 4d). Everything I do is like drafting in 3d you can go in any of the 6 directions, but so help me if you want to *gasp* diagonally .
My animation class starts in February - can't wait!

Btw, I assume you topped the class with this animation, no?

I was hoping for your comments. Yes, the program I work with is pretty good (Animation Master 2000), even though it crashes sometimes for reasons like trying to switch views and clicking back in during rendering. I'm really excited about it because I get to actually model complex things, like faces and hands and stuff. My other program sucked that way.

I don't know whether I topped the class, really, but I have seen a couple projects from others and they were pretty damn crappy, so yeah..... I tried hard and several times to get the movements fluid, especially going back up from down.


After this I'm getting ready for a portfolio of at least 3 of my own original animated movies, BOOYEAH!! *dances* ....expect more of way cooler stuff from me.

Alright. This is my first ever human face. It's a work in progress. (not school-related)

I followed a tutorial, but I made the face structure myself and have been trying to fix all the wrinkles and facial features for the past few weeks. It's still flawed, especially around the nose, but I'm just showing what I've got so far.

I have no idea actually. The tutorial video's duration was roughly 2 hours, and it took me 2 days to finish it pausing and playing (perhaps more than twice the duration of the tutorial). Then I've been going into the file off and on messing with the features and trying to fix things for weeks. The most frustrating things are the weird messed up patches. Around the nose they won't do anything but bulge or sink in a way that creases in contrast with the other patches instead of blending seamlessly, and a lack of patching around the nostrils makes them kind of cave in and look stretched and thin. Oh and the most frustrating part is the forehead, where the patches in the middle always stand out and crease against the others, and no matter how much I mess with where they're placed there's always gonna be some wrinkle or crease down the forehead.


But I think I'm getting better. If I keep practicing and working carefully on it then it'll probably look tons better.

lol very cool. I've just downloaded that program of yours to check it out (that dolphin was just soooooo smooth ) can't wait to try it out!

Btw, once I submit my next vid, I'll show you some shots of my human-like model I had to make for the animation. I think you'll like it lol. It's really barren and kinda undetailed though, because I didn't need all that much to make the animation work. Still, the "face" took a lot of work. As did the fur... heh... but enough hints .

also, if you ever want a really cool site to see some jaw-dropping animation and such, and maybe work up the courage to show your stuff there check out http://forums.cgsociety.org/index.php (in case you haven't already) there might be some more cool tutorials as well .

HOLY CRAP a lot of people are online there.


Seems kind of intimidating though, because they're all the type of folk who have way more advanced programs like Maya, Lightwave and 3ds Max. I don't see anything there about Animation Master.

I've actually registered and posted a tiny bit on the official AM forum (Martin Hash, the creator of the program is an administrator there). They have some cool stuff too, but not nearly as populated as that other one.

I usually check out these kinds of links because I find animation so interesting but if DS is intimidated, I'm not even going to bother to look at it!

*goes back to dinking around with her sad little amateur still pic animation thingies* LOL! I'd love to learn real animation one day. It's just so awesome to imagine doing these sorts of things that you've been doing, DS!

Hey Aislynn! I don't want to hold you back on anything, just because I'm intimidated.


This type of animation is so fun and rewarding to do, more so than the potential setbacks and challenges. And I'm sure you'd be great at it, because you already are with 2d animation, and the hardest ways to do it! I'm sure you can find free trials of animation softwares online and start making your own stuff. (just be careful of crappy freeware programs, LOL)
