I do not want this as a flash transition.

I want this (Photoshopped, obviously).
How do I make transitions stay within the widescreen barriers? Thanks. _________________ I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. His hair was perfect.

One way is to use cookie cutter on the whole track and create the 'letterbox' frames yourself. That should cover the flash transition. |

You can change the resolution of clips in Project Properties. If you have just the one clip that is out of whack, you can right click on it and select properties, then either untick or tick the box to stretch it out to the whole box. Can't remember which one it was.
When you come to render you can change render properties too so if you really want black bars then you can put them in and the transitions will stay within the main area.
If you need a proper tutorial to explain it let me know. _________________

Thanks, guys. It's not a resolution issue per se, as everything's at PAL DV Widescreen -- it's just that any transition I use that moves outside of the frame of the clips screws itself up.
This is what I have when I apply page roll, for instance (and don't worry; I know it's cheesy as hell, but just to demonstrate):
This looks terrible.
I want the page roll to be bound by the same barriers -- or not bound by the same barriers -- as the video itself. Cookie cutter won't fix that, I don't think?
Thanks for the help thus far! _________________ I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. His hair was perfect.

Yeah cookie cutter will only help with the flash.
I think what Paul said is along the right lines. I can't explain it very well though. You can try messing with the 'size about center' or 'Lock Aspect Ratio' options to change the size of the clip and match it up with the frames. You might have to zoom in quite a bit though. That might not be the best way, but that's usually how I get around it. |

Half-success: I got it to display in the editor correctly with Project Properties. But then when I render it adds the black bars again and screws up the page roll anew. What should I set for rendering, then?
This
is it rendered with Project Properties, but
is what I see in Vegas now, which is correct. _________________ I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. His hair was perfect.

I really hate messing with the project properties I'm not sure it'll help but here's my settings:
Render settings:
Still think it's an issue to do with the pan/crop tool but there ya go |

If I set my properties as 512x384 (video size), PAL DV 1.4 widescsreen, and render as Keep Original Size, 1.0, and with Stretch to Fill (Don't Letterbox) checked, it almost works (as in, page curl does not include black bars) but is slightly distorted. 1.33 (my only other choice besides 1.0) distorts it further. Argh.
This should be a simple fix. No idea why it's so freaking difficult! Thanks for bearing with. _________________ I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. His hair was perfect.

God, that was rage-inducing. But I think I have it. At least, I have something that looks acceptable, isn't squished, and doesn't take borders into the transitions. The final part was to set the render as identical 1.4 Widescreen PAL with the clips.
Thanks for all the help, Jemma and Paul! _________________ I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. His hair was perfect.

No problem. I remember having a lot of problems with this too. It's a pain..
I just realised if the black bars are naturally in the video clips to begin with, then my solution won't work. Another solution you can try in the future is using pan/crop with some of the settings off on the left toolbar so that you can stretch it into the main frame and avoid the black bars. Then you just stretch the clip like I said before with clip properties and ticking/unticking that box. Sorry for being vague I haven't used Vegas in a while. Then just right click the fixed clip and click copy, and you can paste all those settings to the rest of your clips.
I think we can tell from this that Vegas is pretty infuriating _________________
