I'm really upset and kind of need some comfort right now. Sorry for dumping this on you guys, but I figured you wouldn't mind, and you'd want to know why I won't be around much for a while.
So, earlier this afternoon, like 5 hours ago, my computer broke. I have no idea what's going on, and I'm relatively computer savvy....so I'm really frustrated! I'm on my sister's computer right now, but I won't be on that often. If you're interested, what happened is this -
Around 3pm, iTunes froze, so I was trying to close the program. It wouldn't shut off, even after like 15 minutes, so instead, I just tried to eject my iPod by going into 'My Computer' and ejecting it from there...then the 'my computer' window froze! I looked at my iPod and guess what? That was completely frozen as well! In fact, it still is and it's not even connected to my computer anymore! my $300 iPod is frozen on one screen, will not respond to any buttons whatsoever, so matter what I do. I've tried plugging it in and unplugging it, the thing won't turn off and I can't restart it in any way. So...moving on. Suddenly, my entire computer froze, and I couldn't even shut it down, so I decided to just turn it off manually by pressing the button. I turned it off, waited a few seconds, then turned it back on. I ended up coming to a black screen and it's stuck there. So I turned it off again and this time booted it up through safe mode. It worked, but I can't go online or really do much at all there! I thought that maybe the problem resided in iTunes for some reason (I'm just grasping at straws here, I have no idea what else to do), so I tried to uninstall it...but I forgot that in safe mode, the Windows Installer doesn't work! So there's nothing I can do. By the way, I also did system restores like a million times...well, a couple times from different points. It didn't work.
I finally asked my mom for help (she's worked with computers for years and years) and she couldn't even begin to figure out the problem. So my computer is broken, my iPod is broken, I won't be able to work on videos ... if I have to wipe my hard drive, I'll lose nearly everything, including Vegas and that took FOREVER to get to work in the first place. I'm just so frustrated. I feel like crying or hitting something. lol And I'm usually pretty calm and logical, but this is insane! AND I have to write a paper that's due tomorrow afternoon! I just have no idea what to do...I'm so overwhelmed. I wish the problem would just go away, but I doubt it will. It's dark out, but I think I'm going to just go outside and try and clear my head. I've been thinking about this for 5 hours already.
If anyone works with computers, or has any serious idea of what could be wrong, please tell me. Anyway, I just thought I'd let you know why I won't be around a lot. I may get the chance at school, but I doubt it, with all the homework I'll have to do there. I might even have to skip some classes to get it done. I should stop whining...anyway, I love you all and I'll miss you! _________________

Thanks, Elyse. The good news is, my iPod ran out of batteries and it unfroze and said that I needed to connect it to a power source, so I hooked it up to my iHome to recharge to see if that works, and for the moment, it seems okay....I don't know if it will last, or if any other problems will arise, but pray that it stays alright! *is hopeful* _________________

Oh Sassy! That’s horrible!! I'm so sorry, I wish I could help, but I'm no professional when it comes to computers. I mean I know a lot but I can't even begin to figure out what's going on with yours. I'd try calling the company, either apple for the itunes, and ipod problem, or the computer company. Explain to them what went wrong, and hopefully they can help.
In the mean time *hugs* everything will work out. _________________ Morgan

Oh man, that's terrible! I'm so sorry to hear about that! Major computer problems are just the total pits! I don't have any clue what could've happened, sorry to say, but like Morgan suggested you'll probably need to call either whomever made the computer's tech support if they have it and hope that they can give you some idea what to do!
I tried searching some of the things that you mentioned that happened but so far I haven't had any luck finding an answer. That's what I do when I'm trying to self-diagnose my computer issues but it all depends on whether or not you can find the right term to look up (I use both Ask and Google) and if somebody out there has had the same problem (which they almost always have had, if you can just find them!).
*hugs you* Hope you're able to get it fixed SOON without having to lose all of your stuff! ♥! |

OMG! Breakthrough! I'm almost afraid to post this, for fear of jinxing myself (I'm not a big believer of that kind of thing, but seriously...this scared me!) but my computer is suddenly working!
I did homework for a bit, then continued to mess with it, trying anything and everything (which was hard without the Internet or any tech support to help me). I restarted the computer numerous times and tried all kinds of things, and finally it just came back! I have no idea how it worked. It was in normal mode too.. Anyway, THANK GOD! I was freaking out, cuz I depend on my computer so much! I mean, I had lots of lots of school files on here, as well as all my fanfic and vidding stuff. And mt resume and head shots...ugh, I just realized how dependent I am on this hunk o' junk! lol But YAY! I'm just so excited that it's back. I just hope that it stays, but with all the weirdness going on, I dunno. I mean, first my iPod just coming back and then my computer? After hours and hours of nothing? This is just strange. Either way, I don't care. I am incredibly happy and as long as it continues to work fine, I don't care what was wrong for the time being! _________________

Wooo! That's great news!
Back-up your important stuff if you possibly can, just in case it should *thud* again, though. CDs, DVDs, flashdrives, whatever you've got, grab your important thingies while the grabbing's good. |

Exactly what I did! lol I'd still lose my Vegas stuff and some of my other programs, but I've got my music, most of my clips, my fanfic, my school stuff...Gah, I'm just so happy it's back! *hugs compy* _________________

It boots in safe mode automatically if there is an error afterwards so you just have to choose don't boot in safe mode when it does that. My mp3 player froze once aswell but there is a way to reset it you have to hold down play and record or something and it restarts. Best to check your manual in the future if you still have it _________________

Omgsh, Sassy I'm glad that it's working again for you. I know how you felt though because I had problems with my old laptop where it wouldn't turn on or anything (which I remember posting on the spam a while back lol) but yeah it makes you realise how dependant you are with computers. |

It's all good now. But thanks. I think I have super powers. I have this weird way of messing with things until they're fixed (and miraculously, I don't break them further!), whether it be cars or computers. _________________

Sass, do a disc scan of your hard drive and check for corrupted clusters or missing sectors. Hard discs are not immune to wear and tear and can sometimes just 'loose' information.
Go to start
Then run
Type in cmd and enter (black DOS prompt window appears)
And at the command prompt, type in chkdsk
This can check to see if anything is damaged on your Hard Drive. It takes a while depending on your drive size but it's a good tool for finding errors. |
