Hey guys, I have a question.
I'm considering doing a vid about Sawyer, and I'd love to do it and make the best of it.
But the "problem" I have is that the song I have fallen inlove with is a Swedish song, and I'll tell you - if you all knew Swedish this song would be vidded faster than you can say LVI! It fits so well, and that's why I want to vid it (the song just won a Grammy for Best Song last year...)
This may sound a bit strange or something, but so I'm wondering; can a video with a foreign language song (or whatever you may call it) be Council Picked?
I know it would take a VERY good vid and VERY good song but I feel like if I knew that I have the chance to get a CP even if it's in Swedish, I would get more motivated.
I kinda know exactly how I'm going to do it so... hehe.
I'd love an answer!

Yes it can! If you see some of Kaory's videos then she has got CP's with foriegn speaking songs. What would be useful though if you could pm us the translation of the lyrics? Cause then we can judge on lyric use aswell as other things. _________________

can I just say that this is awesome news, I was thinking about that by myself..'cause I really love some russian songs (for my latest vid. I used russian singer song, but it was his english version of it ), but I was wondering not because of CP, I was't sure if it would be accepted for submitting or not ...
But I think the problem is still exist 'cause I think for viewer not very interesting to watch vid. with lyric that he could't understand, even if the song is very beatiful..Of course I could do translation in the video itself (do english subtitle for every sentence), but than again it would't be a beatiful vid after that 'cause viewer will watch this subtitles text but not vid ...I'm confused about that... but hopefully I will solve this problem though _________________

Just as somebody who loves to watch vids, I can tell you that I always appreciate it when somebody provides the English translation in their vid's thread. So that's what I would suggest doing, that way if anybody is curious as to what the lyrics are actually saying, they can read them there without you having to put subtitles on your vid. (I know what you mean, Savanna! I'd figure people would be reading the subtitles more than just watching the vid, too! )
Paul's suggestion of PM-ing us the translation is a great one! That way we'll be able to "see" your lyric interpretation right away! I hope that makes sense... Anyway, whenever you (or anybody else) submits a vid in a non-English language and are worried about us understanding it while we're doing our Council Pick voting, feel free to send us the English translation if you have it. It's not necessary, of course, but it would certainly be appreciated! |

My suggestion would be to treat this vid as if it was an instrumental, and simply put more of an emphasis on the story than you would normally. Because even if we're translating and judging at the same time, you just can't guarantee the impact of your interpretations will make it through. But that doesn't mean it won't be able to get a CP It's just a bit trickier without reliable words to outline the vid. But foreign songs and instrumentals have earned plenty of CPs in the past, so I don't see why they shouldn't now . |

I'd love to do a video to a French song one of these days... _________________

I agree with Paul and Ais: It would be great if you could send us the translation and post it in your vid thread, too. Apart from that though, it would actually be great to see a Lost vid to a non-English song. _________________

Okay, I'm about to start now! Awesome to hear that foreign songs can be CP'd, that was my question and I'm happy to start a thread that helps other vidders too
I'm just hoping that you guys won't think that Swedish is a really, really ugly language... it's not like Russian or French exactly!
It's a bit "harder"... anyway, you'll se.
Thanks again!
*goes translating*
One more thing though... I'll translate the lyrics in the exact way they're being sung like in the song, and it may sound a bit strange sometimes, just so you know! Here in Sweden we call them "slang"-expressions, and they're totally weird sometimes. _________________
