It wasn't all that shocking when Locke had a gun pointed at Jack the episode before and was threatening to shoot him for doing something he believed would save them all. Jack had no way of knowing that it wasn't loaded at the time. And this was after Locke had already blown up the submarine. Even most reasonable people would be driven to violence in a situation like that. _________________

Difference is Locke didn't shoot him though Not looking to get into a debate just challenging the idea that Jack has never attempted murder. Not that I'm singling him out most of the others have aswell. _________________

Jack may have attempted murder, but he's still one of the the few who's never actually successfully committed it. (The marshal doesn't count because as far as I'm concerned, voluntary euthanasia isn't murder.)
I'm not trying to pick a fight either, Paul, my point is just that Jack didn't do it out of retribution like some of the characters on the show. Locke provoked him by constantly thwarting his attempts to get them all rescued and then blaming it on "destiny", when really (and Flocke seemed to back this idea up) he just wanted to stay there and for everyone else to stay with him. Stress like that (especially when they had people like Ben and the Others attacking them constantly) would cause even the most level-headed person to snap. It's not something he would have done if he'd had time to stop and think about it -- he was just reacting, like Sawyer said. He certainly would never sit down and plot it.
I'm not saying Jack isn't capable of murder because I think most people are given the right circumstances (aka. in self defense like in 'The Incident' when he was firing on people at the barracks) -- just that a cold-blooded vengeance killing isn't in his nature. He values his Hippocratic oath too much for that. _________________

Wow this is getting really deep isn't it? lol I thought like you did until that scene in season 4 when he pulled the trigger. It might have been a reaction but he still did it. Makes his character more interesting to me so it's all good _________________

Btw, Jack may act like an ass occasionally, but his actions are usually motivated by good intentions. The same cannot be said of Sawyer at least 75 per cent of the time. He pretty much just is an ass. |
Why would my real life effect my ship preference on tv? :\
I don't really see again why the shipper reference is being made, and there's really no point in getting into a discussion as to why I ship Skate, which is nothing to do with "hotness". though it is a plus mind you.
I don't disagree. Good intentions or not, he still acts like a ass. I still like him regardless of the reason. Cause he needs to act like an ass. Imagine if he was the straight up Doc who done everything by the book, all nicey nicey. He'd just get told to gtfo. He's constantly under pressure to lead these people. He's the opposite of Locke. Locke is the kind of leader.....who kills people.
But that did change in season 5. He wnated to detonate a bomb. There was a mjor risk there that he would kill everyone. I actually wanted to applaud him for going ahead with it. He was willing to risk it all. _________________

when he pulled that sad little face during LA X when he's bent over and just drops his head? I just wanted to jump through my screen and give him a big squeezy hug _________________

I actually loved scruffy!future!Jack! I really enjoyed that aspect of his character, it went a long way towards making me like Jack as a whole just to see what depths he'd gone to and then watch him scramble to pull himself back together.
And I agree with Debbie, it's definitely incorrect to say that if you like Jack, you automatically want him with Kate. You certainly can be a fan of a character and not be a fan of one of that character's ships. It took me a while to realize that it was Jate I disliked, not Jack himself. I loved him with Juliet and with Ana-Lucia! I just don't care for him with Kate.
At this point in the show, I find something compelling about all of the characters. The only time that a mention of Jack really makes me cringe is if somebody's bashing Sawyer in his name. Doesn't Jack have enough qualities to stand on his own without requiring somebody to tear down ANY other character to try and build him up? This is a thread for celebrating Jack, after all, not for calling Sawyer names or bashing him or Skate.

I think it's a interesting talk.
I think Jack would kill for self defense but not if Kate was accidently killed for an idea Sawyer had that would be helping people, he wouldn't. Especially because he knows that Sawyer cares for Kate in the same way that Jack cared for Juliet. They were friends, of course Jack wasn't going to do anything to get Juliet killed, and he would know that about Sawyer.
Jack wanted to shoot Locke because he was always ruining every chance he had to get off the island with offering no real explanation other than 'destiny' which Jack had already refused to believe in and the fact that the Island was more than an island, Locke wasn't giving him proof of why they needed to stay, instaed he was ruining every chance they had, and doing it in awful ways. A) Killing and B) Blowing up a submaraine.
No Locke didn't shoot Jack, A) He did however kill someone proving to Jack that Locke was more dangerous than he thought, he shot at the phone implying he WOULD shoot Jack and he told him he would. And he had already blown up the submaraine.
I don't think Jack could kill someone just to kill them.
Back to teh Lock/Jack.

I found this amusing sounds like that would be Jack the serial killer ala Dexter.
I don't think Jack was justified in shooting Locke.. he was unarmed and to be fair Locke was right the people on the boat were there to hurt them. I know he's messed up his chance to get off on the sub but that's not a reason to kill someone maybe beat them up a bit like he did Ben lol _________________
