I have been wondering this for a while, how long, depending on what video you are making, do you spend making it? My last video took me 3 days, which was a mistake on my part because there were allot of problems I looked over. How long do you go after your video is done to look over it and correct it before you send it in?

I found myself spending more and more time on videos because I see mistakes and flaws all the time.

My first vids usually took me 4 to 5 hours to do and I did them within 2-3 days. Now they take me like 8-12 hours (approx. total time) and I'm working on them for weeks!!!!! *sigh* It's still fun though but it's a huge commitment. I'm having a self-imposed vidding block at the moment.

When I first started making videos it took me about a week or so to get them done. Now it takes me 3 weeks+ o.O I guess I am just way more picky with the clips I choose. What I have learnt that helps is try and get the idea of the video mapped out before you start and then you know where it's going and can plan certain parts and such. A good way to do this is to just write notes next to the lyrics (thanks for that tipp, Heather! )

Once my video is done I am very impatient because it usually took me ages to do. It usually always needs a second or third render so this can be very frustrating. I guess I really should take my time with this part but I am always so eager to get it out there

It usually takes me more than a month do my vids (some have taken up to 3! ). The fastest I've done any of my "serious" vids has been 2 weeks. It takes me forever because I'm extremely picky about each and every clip choice I make. I'm actually trying to work on getting faster at that whole process rather than agonizing over every clip.

After I'm done with a vid, I watch it over from start to finish at least 3 times: once watching just for beat use to make sure I didn't miss anything, once where I try to see if the story makes sense (this stage usually involves me mumbling to myself: "...and then Ben sees Juliet and Jack together and gets upset and leaves..." so I try not to do it in public! ) and once where I check to make sure I didn't miss anything for continuity (if I did a certain effect at the same point in the music, I check to make sure I didn't miss one of them or if I used sepia tones or black and white for certain scenes, I check to make sure that I kept the effect consistent the whole way through, that sort of thing).

And I usually watch it a few more times, just trying to see if anything feels "off" about it. If it does, then I hold it until I can figure out what's nagging at me. I figure if I turn it in with something "wrong," then yes I can later fix it then put the new version up but a lot of people won't come back and watch it again. So I want to make a good impression the first go-around!

And hey there, wolffootball! I've seen you around LVI now but I don't think I've said a proper hello! *waves*

It's the same here...it usually takes me about 3 weeks or a month...
That is because sometimes i'm not in the right mood to vid or don't have good ideas...it depends.
For example i'm making a vid now which i've started since the end of "I do" episode....it's like 3 months....in the mean time i've make 2 others.

Upwards of about five days for me. I always have massive Word documents with a line-by-line plan of the video, and usually if I can't get at least half of the video planned then I scrap the whole idea (or it becomes a candidate for a mash-up vid). This usually takes a couple of hours to do. Then I have to rip all of the episodes I need onto my computer (I don't have a very big hard-drive so I can't keep all the episodes on there at once) from the DVDs, then I have to go through each episode with Vegas and find all of the scenes that I need. After that it's speed all the way, and I just put the clips where they need to go and add effects etc. So upwards of about five days, depending on how much school work I have.

Just like Kayla, the first thing I do is a little "brainstorming" concerning the lyrics. I write down which scene I could use for which line of the song. After that I start working on the vid itself, but this can take a little while, depending on my motivation and how much time I have. It usually takes me about two weeks to finish a vid... I check each and every new scene that I just added... if the brightness / contrast is ok, if the timing is alright, if it fits with the rest of the vid.
Sometimes (not very often, but it can always happen) it takes me up to a month to finish a vid.

The times when I did a vid in about 2 or 3 days are long gone, I'm afraid.

I've made 4 Lost-vids soo far, and all of them within a week (or a week and a half )
It all depends on what time I have and how I want them to be like.

I have to listen to the song I'm going to vid like 12735 times before I vid it. Like, I have to "get to know" the vid by beat and lyrics, so when I vid, I can use them the very best
I also visualize my vid before I start, and in my mind I play the vid and the clips I'm going to use. This is something I have to do or else I don't feel very productive while not vidding. Like in school, haha.
(I think I'm a nerd, I can't stop thinking about my vid when I'm in school and when I come up with some ideas, I can't wait to get home and do them. Is that normal?)

Well, anyway, that's my way of vidding. When I've visualized it I start and then it doen't take too long before I finish it.
The latest vid I did (gold CP; yoho! ) I did within 4 days.

My first few vids I made in a total of only 2, maybe 3 days. I spent probably a week or so on the Guns 'N Roses video, then about a month on the Bohemian Rhapsody one. My free Vegas trial was running out before I could comfortably finish Bohemian Rhapsody, so I spent a whole night awake on the computer on the second to last day on my trial, AGONIZING over what to do with some black spots. And at the same time trying to download the eps I needed to put in.

Some things are easier than others, like comedy or AU, and only take a couple to a few days for me. But serious ones take me weeks. I'm more motivated to successfully finish funny videos, because they're lighter.

I can make a video in a few days, or a few months. Not that it takes me months to DO the video, I just gte bored and stop for ages. Sometimes I go 2 or 3 weeks without working on a video i've already started.

I really don't know how long it takes for me to make a vid... it has varied sooo much over the years.
The last one I made, for instance, was a video about the movie MirrorMask, which I watched one night with my dad, then I ripped the DVD and left the files converting to AVIs throughout the night. When I woke up (around 7 am or so... MUCH earlier than I usually wake up), I had the avis ready to be used, so I spent the entire day vidding. It was just nonstop editing from 7 am to 3 am the next day, with ocasional stops for bodily functions, lunch/dinner, and some random squeeing at how cute my baby brother is.
So it took me about 20 hours to make, but it was done within a day. And I'm really happy with it, even though I made it kinda quickly, I don't think it's rushed.
But, for example, there was this Stargate music video I made last year that took me MONTHS to finish, and I would always spend at least 2 hours working on it, every single day.

So I don't know... And, in the end, it doesn't really matter. I can spot some bad editing choices in my vids, no matter how much time I spent on them. Besides, I've noticed that if I spend too much time fixing clips in my videos, I may end up making the whole thing worse and not better. And if I go along fixing clips all around, I may end up changing the video too much that it becomes something completely different from what I wanted.
I'm a perfectionist, but I'm also impatient (yes, it IS complicated. It basically comes down to me being infuriated with myself for stopping every 2 seconds to fix a clip) so I've just decided that there must be a moment where I go "Ok, this is FINISHED!", no matter how many clips I'm not happy with, otherwise I'll just never stop working on it.

Just like Kayla and Karolina, I usually spend a few hours mapping out the lyrics line for line to see what kind of scenes I can use for each line in the lyrics.

It always depends on the vid, what's going on in my life at the time, whether I've got all the clips or need to download them, how long I work on it in each sitting, whether or not my muse sticks with me from start to finish, and how many beta passes I make.

My latest vid, Bombs Away, is the vid that took me the longest, because somewhere along the line, I lost my muse. Luckily it came back. But, it also coincided with the holidays, so there was a lot of travel which also slowed me down. Bombs Away took me three-four months at about approximately 4-5 hours per sitting. I'd estimate that it took me between one and two weeks straight worth of hours to finish.

On average, it usually takes me two or three weeks to finish a vid, at approximately four or five days worth of straight hours.

Well for me every new vid. has it personal makening time..'cause for example I was really dying with my latest Des/ Lizzy Swann AU for two months ..but not because of "I can't do a effect or smth like that". No, I was confusing about the song lyric, and really nothing were coming to my head with what to do, and how actually creating cliffhanger about their meeting and ending..but than I just woke up at the weekend, decided sit instead of my note book and done it in 5 hours So my vidding time depends on my vidding Muse I think mostly

When I only started to vid a year ago...can I just say that I still remember how I find out that my notebook have WMM1, I was just in shock that I have movie maker ...well and I made my fist video ever on it (it was Skate (strange, yeah ) vid. on my favorite song ever Truly Madly Deeply by Savage Garden..even though I would never submitted it, or show it anybody ...very bad editing)...Anyway my first vid took me about 1.5 day of non-stopping vidding. And I was so proud about the result ...yeah sure...

Than was a vid. on Madonna's Ray of light song (I will never submitted it too, 'cause the vid. has absolutely no storyline ) Anyway, I work really long for it..about a month, and was proud again ...yeah sure...

One of my weirdest vids - New Island Home with Locke= God Idea took me month too. It was such a pain vid because of the effects ammount that I did, and well, I think it my catastrofic vid. and I really hate that one..

One of my difficults vids was POTC Black Devil Car, I really was like a turtle with it!! 1,5 month of my life I spent on it I think ...The real pain was Jamiroquai lyric in it for me

When I start only to use Vegas, my first work on it was my Carry on dancing vid..I think it took me a week to figured out all stuff, that this programm could do, cause when I first time open it..I was like...eeee...and where is time line, or I coud't understand how to creat video steps, and where they actually must be.lol..can I just say that big pain for me was speed..I really coud't find where it was.lol (after my easiest Ulead, Vegas was for me like Hell..really, and what funny is that now I actually think that it is very simple in use, I already just can't work with others programms, now they are difficult for me 'cause they could't do what I could do so simple in Vegas ) Anyway..when I figured out all Vegas stuff I done my first vid. on it in 3 weeks..or can I call 3 weeks of Hell, cause I still was studing...

After that carry on dancing vid. my vidding process bacame really quickly I think...I done Ben/Kate AU in 1 day...But than again my "Awakening" Sawyer vid was a real nightmare for me!!! I was again stuck with lyric, and the whole video concept! took me the whole month And I really hate this my vid. 'cause I was in such depression about it, so I cut the song, and so it look like unfinished, I hate myself for cutting the song still damn it!!!

after that Ben/Kate AU I start vidding really quickly...I made another POTC vid, Kate crossoever to serial La femme Nikita (I still not submitted it 'cause I'm too lazy to creat image for it.lol) Forrest Gump one, Casino Royale, Snape/Harry AU.. I think each of them took me 1.5, maximum 2 days, but this was non-stopping vidding days.lol
And usually I had free time only at Saturday, so well..it's my speed, but for every my vid. I try to do as much better as I could..

I think the only one problem for me.( and that's why I stucking sometimes is english lyric translation to my native lanquage..sometimes I just don't know what to do with some english lanquage expressions and I stucking, and don't know where going next)

---
Ok, I'm sorry for wroting my boring vidding history.lol
