Hey, it's never stupid to ask a question when you don't know something. 
Jack said that line in one of the early season 1 eps (which I'm sure somebody knows which ep it was, right?  ). He was giving a pep talk to the bunch, telling them basically that they needed to stick together if they wanted to live, otherwise they would die if they were out there alone. Then it got condensed down into a sort of catch-phrase: "live together, die alone."  |

And Kate repeated it in Man of Science/Man of Faith. I totally remembered that from the start of the season and not because ABC repeated that episode last week, honest.
It's also sort of sinister in that episode's context:

... which is not exactly Aislynn's interpretation, to say the very least. Heh.
