People I know who have read the book, were disappointed with the movie. I don't know whether or not to waste my money now, or wait for it to arrive on video. _________________

I'd wait for video and/or movie channel. Worth watching, but not worth movie theatre prices for |

The film was a HUGE let down. When people started making fun of it I thought i would give it the benefit of the doubt. I didn't believe that people were actually finding it funny (it's suposd to be a serious film) - they were just kicking it while it was down. How frikin wrong was I? Even I cracked a smile. Oh and one more thing - lots of it was filmed in a church/cathedoral. Talk about going against your religion! I mean come on. They were proballypaid alot but now I just have more reasons to poke fun at the Christian faith. _________________

I've seen the movie yesterday and I just can agree with what has been said before by the others:
The movie wasn't bad, but far away from being good either. And it had huge lengths, IMO. Waste of great actors, too.
I didn't have any trouble understanding the story, even though I haven't read the book. There's one thing I didn't completely understand, though, and that's the character Ian McKellen was portraying. His motives? What side was he on (if you can say so at all cuz obviously he had his very own interests)? Quite obviously he wasn't an Opus Dei member because he tricked them, but was he somehow connected with that other group?
Can anyone who read the book tell me more about that guy? _________________

Well, I went to watch it because I get discounted tickets.
Ian's character seem to just want to have the secret to be exposed. I don't think he was on any particular side. He just used Opus Dei to further his own ambitions. I may be wrong, but that's what I made out. _________________
