|
|
Here's what the defamer said, it's funny:
Quote: | The End Of 'Brokeback' Parodies
If you can no longer bear the thought of watching even one more Brokeback Mountain parody, take heart, for relief is in sight. The NY Times has taken it upon itself to finally deliver the death-blow to the seemingly endless procession of mash-ups, dispatching critic Virginia Heffernan to deconstruct the form, thus ensuring that any joy we once derived from the recasting of Marty McFly and Doc Brown as gay lovers unstuck in time will be instantly erased. Says Heffernan:
The parodies typically use Gustavo Santaolalla's sexy, mournful theme from "Brokeback Mountain," together with the title cards from that movie's trailer, to reframe clips from another movie. It works almost every time: a gay movie seems to emerge when scenes between male leads, or a male lead and a supporting actor, are slowed down, set to make-out music and bumpered by portentous cards that say things like, "A truth they couldn't deny." The editing, and the use of slow motion, do suggest that close-ups, especially viewed at length, are intrinsically erotic. All that these parodies need to do to set up the relationship is show one man's face in protracted detail, and cut to the other man, who seems to watch with the same rapt attention that the viewer has been compelled to give by the slow-mo. A gay subtext suddenly seems plain as day.
It was fun while it lasted.
Following that bloodless breakdown, we can barely bring ourselves to share the wonders of Brokeback Pez, the bunnies reenacting the entire movie in 30 seconds, this interview with the auteurs behind Brokeback to the Future (in our estimation, still the gold standard of mash-ups), or Low Culture's heartbreaking examination of the history of Brokeback Mountain jokes.
The gay sheep have stampeded away from the campsite. Don't bother chasing them, friends, they're gone. |

Hooray, I agree. This whole gay thing with the cast of Lost is just weird. I'm open about people being gay and all, but let's leave it to Queer as Folk & Will and Grace to handle the gay stuff. It was funny and cool when we were having the contest, but let's wave buh-bye now. So far, no one is gay on the show, so let's leave it that way until they write it in.
my two cents |

Slash is not new (to Lost or any other fandom) and will not go away no matter how you wish it. Brokeback was just an easy target for parody. Slash will never die. How come no one told me my banner was broken? |

So far.
I'm actually a little surprised at the Lost fandom's relative lack of slash. I thought there'd be a lot more, especially with so many pairings to choose from lol. And aren't fandoms supposed to be famous for their AU slash videos and fanfics?
Not that I'm complaining or anything. but I'm also not saying I'm joyous over it. I like a good Jarlie vid as much as a good Jate one. Usually more since it means something NEW for a change but if it gets old and stale, like some of these Brokeback things, then like everything it gets boring and annoying.

I hear ya KC Just wishful thinking. I'm not against the gay thing, I just felt like it was being shoved down my throat. I just want to move n the next thing. I just read a slash fic and it was great. I'm a very open-minded person.
Warren-LMAO. You know how I feel about Jack! Jack= |

I have trouble finding slash that isn't JUST porn. Not that I'm out actively looking for slash or anything! Ha. I enjoy fanfic from time to time, but if it's just porn then it gets quite tiresome. Laura's fic "pretty piece of flesh" is incredible, and so far, despite the misgiving title, has not had any fleshy bits yet. I'm sure it will soon enough though. Ha. And yeah it's Jawyer slash.
Anyway, I didn't mean to insinuate that you weren't open minded. Just that slash will never go away.
Hobbes! Jack is not gay!
I think Jarlie is the slash ship I'm most afraid of. I just can't handle it.

Very true, Ruth. Okay, I was hasty in my exclamation...and I take it back. But it kind of reminds me of the whole PB&J thing...all those C/C vids. They were cute but there were so many of them.
Oh, I know you werent insinuating I wasn't open-minded KC. If you were, you would have just told me-lol-we're alike that way. Two very strong women who aren't afraid to say what's on our minds. Power to the PINKS! |

Yeah, the Brokeback times were fun, but now if one more parody comes up then I'm just not going to put myself through watching it...LOL.
I hope Jack's gay, because Jate's getting older than this Brokeback craze could ever become. Just my opinion.
My favorite slash ship (infact my favorite ship on Lost, period) is Locke and Boone. They rocked together. _________________

Ok, so the date on this is March 2? On March 3 they had this to say about my Brokeback Island video:
Quote: |
Short Ends: They Must Press The Button Every 108 Minutes Or Their Forbidden Love Will Die
Brokeback parodies may be dead, but Jack and Sawyer from Lost are throwing a hell of a wake. Really, another classic. |
Come on, a good Brokeback joke will never stop being funny. Even to high-and-mighty websites who declare the jokes "dead". _________________

Well, I know slash can be funny at times, but it does get old. Especially in the eighties when it became such an open thing. Slash is nothing new for the world. Gay people can be proud of who they are now and that is so cool because a person's sexual preference shouldn't matter. It's nice to poke fun but I don't think anyone is gay on Lost.
But, it is getting old. Things are only funny for so long. Then you need to move on. Yeah, the whole slash thing for Lost was a good chuckle, but I'm with you DS, it's over now. Time for something new.
Oh yeah, I wasn't referring to slash in general...just the whole Brokeback Island thing.
edit: Just my lowly opinion....I mean, really, who am I to say anything.

Spoiler: He also said if they did that, it would have to be someone you already know well, so the person isn't just the typical "gay guy". So Jack really fits that particular bill
Molly, you totally have to paste all those quotes for us! Over in that famous lurkers thread maybe. I'd love to see those heheh |
