Pretty much all europeans probably know what the Eurovison Song Contest is, right? Well, now the Americans are getting their own. NBC has bought the format, and it will be like our's, only it will be states sending their participants, not countries like we do.
I think it's pretty cool since I don't know any american who know what ESC is. I love it, since I am a huge fan of al kinds of music
Do I have any europeans here that also likes the ESC? What's your oppinoin on that the States are getting it?
And BTW, don't you think the Eurovison logo this year on the site http://www.eurovision.tv/ is A LOT like Oceanic Air's ? _________________

I wouldn't call myself a fan of ESC but I certainly know what it is and I always watch it. It's fun. I think its cool that America is getting its own (copycats - joke lol). You're right though - no Non-Europeans have ever heard of it. _________________

Yeah, it started in 1955 (they celebrated a 50-year anniversary last year) and has been going on ever since.. It had participants like ABBA and Celice Dion through the years, and I'll tell you, it's HUGE in Europe!
I do not get why people in other parts of the world don't get to watch it, I think it's a great show with all these performances, clothes, songs... it's great! It's sooo many different styles of everything and you can never guess who's gonna win (most often not)
I think it's great that USA are getting their own Song Contest, it will really be good for all these people who really want to make it to the top, withour being in a reality show, like "Idol".
And for once in a while you guys get to take something from us, not the other way around _________________

I noticed that a lot of good shows start out abroad, then when the States pick it up for their own version, it doesn't always come out as good. The first time I watched The Office I couldn't stop laughing. Ricky Gervais was so funny and the whole Tim and Dawn flirtation was so sweet. I haven't really got to watch the American version yet, but I heard it's funny but not as funny as the original. I could be wrong tho, I haven't had a chance to see it myself. TV guide said it was beginning to pick up and that it was worth seeing, so I might try to catch it. I might be surprised.
But I never heard of this show you guys are talking about. I lead a sheltered life. I'll have to look out for the American version. Anymore, Idol is same stuff over and over: Simon insulting the contestants...tho that is funny sometimes when they deserve it. |

Australians know about the ESC. But it's not very big. I watch it sometimes for a laugh. Those people that host it are always so weird. And I have to say most of the people...aren't that talented. But sometimes there are a few good singers (ABBA got their start on it, for instance).
And Fan4Lost, I wouldn't let MG hear you say that stuff about the Office. He'll get angry. The two shows are actually completely different apart from the fact they're set in offices. _________________

That's a good point about the Office. It's about the only British show I can think of that is big in America, although didn't we have Pop Idol first (American Idol)? But anyhow its more successful in America. _________________

Ooops, I didn't say I didn't like it or that it wasn't good...I'm just repeating what I heard. I haven't even seen it yet, but I will and I'll probably like it because I like the Steve Carell. I don't mean disrespect for the show MG if you read this...I'll watch it this coming up ep. I was just using it as an example. Bad example since I haven't even seen it yet. My bad |
