Oh come on, it wasn't THAT bad!

Something I found interesting was not so much that he hit Charlie at the end, but that he hit him more than once. One time was here, you've been acting like a moron, so this is what you get. Three times seems more that plus a message of and stay away from what's mine. Again, it doesn't have to be a romance thing. Claire just said that Charlie was hurting her, Locke punished him for it and sent him a strong message of don't even think about coming near them again.

Now THAT I like! Nice! I hope they stick with that character development, because it really gives Locke soem character development.

I REALLY dont get the "romance" vibe from Claire/Locke. Like you guys said, more of a father-daughter thing. I do have to say I feel one punch wouldve suficed.

Did anyone else notice the look locke had at the end? It was like a little intentional throwback to the end of 3, when he was staring bizarrely at Walt and Michael.

Agreed, there's no real Claire/Locke shipper vibe there, just a kinda creepy protector/protected thing.

Wrong... everyone else was acting in character except Locke
There may be a reason for that but not at this moment (after this ep)

The only other character that was kinda out of character was Libby, and that is because we do not know ANYTHING about her.... Basically they are going to retell her story.

Anyways, I totally go against what people are saying when they were all out of character....

Everyone is just pissed that there was no plot advancements in this episode.. Get over it. This was a good character development episode.

The first time I was too busy screaming "YES! YES! YES!" when he was punching Charile to notice that Charlie actually said "I'm sorry" rather than tried to push it further, so I appologize for assuming he was just taking the Aaron thing further.

Oh dear - sorry Hobbes. I was actually referring to a few friends of mine who had been bugging me about it *grumble* ; So, my apologies if I came off rude and sounding like I was directly accusing you for assuming Charlie was trying to grab Aaron again. *facepalm*

And, reading through the rest of your post, you brought up very good points. Locke and (more-so) Charlie both did wrong in this episode, and now I can sort of understand what Locke was thinking, thanks to yours and Aislynn's post.

I'm cooling down about the whole Locke situation now, though I am still not entirely pleased with him, or Charlie. Damon Lindleof did reveal "If you think Locke's dark now, wait until you see Charlie in a couple of episodes." or something like that - it's on Spoilerfix - so it looks like my fears for Charlie have been confirmed. I won't get too worked up until I see why, though.

One more thing about Charlie, because I totally forgot to bring it up in my last post: about the end of the episode. Uh oh. Charlie's got his hood back on again, folks! I know I can't be the only one here who has listened to Dom's commentary of "The Moth" ... I hope. Well, anyway, Dom said something about how he discussed with the writers about Charlie's hood, and how he "hides behind it" and makes him look stronger than he actually is. So, the scene at the end of Fire + Water could not have been just a random shot to close the episode. I think it represents how he's, well, lost all he has gained since giving up heroin, and now he is retreating back to this shell shadow of a man...

This episode was about setting up relationships, so it looks like the character development we were presented with on Wednesday night is what the writers will be building off of for the next half of the season. I guess it varies on the character for whether this is a good thing or not.

If by good character development you mean a rehash of The Moth, then sure, there was good character development this episode.

Word, E. That's what I've been saying! (Only, not so much with the wordage.) They're regressing the characters because they're trying to make it last longer. It's garbage. Charlie has already been through this once, the only thing having him go through it twice does is UNDERMINE everything that happened in THE MOTH. (Even if it does stretch out over more than one episode.)

And harpreetd, I wish you wouldn't take our criticisms of the show so personally as it seems that you do. We don't all have to love every thing about the show and I would appreciate it if you would stop being condescending to those of us who don't fall in line with the rest. My saying, "you've all been bodysnatched" is obviously a joke. But you saying "get over it" is really nothing more than condescending at best. It is moments like this that I sincerely wish that I had more diplomacy (like Aislynn, she's my hero) but unfortunately, I DON'T. This isn't the gorram "mutual admiration society." If I want to say something sucks, I'll say it. Capiche?

Awwww, thanks, KC! I like "diplomatic" better than "spineless" or "namby-pamby!"

No appology necessary, I was just saying that because it was my bad for assuming that, not just because it sounded like you were accusing me.

I love your reviews, always well written and in depth on aspects I've never thought of

Ug, I've gotta stop reading here... every time we have one of these "bad" episodes I think it's perfectly good, just in a different way, until I come on here, then I get all depressed from you lot saying it was so awful and threatening to leave Lost forever.

Yes, I elicted the elusive "shazaam!" from someone! My ultimate goal. No really, thanks. I just feel like sometimes when people say stuff like that it is really just a round about way of saying, "what you're saying has no validity and therefore does not matter." And wow, does that EVER infuriate me.

Haha, I would NEVER call you namby-pamby!

Which is why you're awesome.

Hobbes I'm sorry. I love your eternal optimism and it certainly is not my intent to make other people, least of all you, hate the show. (Of course my personal theory is that all of our complaints do have some validity and that is the reason they effect you so profoundly, hehe.) I really liked last week's episode though! That's gotta count for something right? And I think a lot of people here actually liked this episode. I was pre-destined to hate it just because Charlie was the focus. It was probably the best episode ever! Really!

And re: about quitting Lost. My mom watches Lost, but other than her, my one and only Lost co-hort Carrie quit as of last week. (Meaning she didn't even bother tuning in to Charlie-Centric-O-Rama) So I won't lie, I might choose the same path. But as of now, I'm not willing to give up just yet. I think I'll probably stick it out until the end of the season at the very least. So all threats of quitting aside, my actual quittage probably won't happen tomorrow or anything. But it is hanging by a very thin thread.
