Hm, do you have Windows Media Player 11? If it's an earlier version, then I don't believe they could properly play DVDs...
About Nero, I'm not sure, since I've never used it. Sorry! If your DVD drive came with the computer, then it ought to have some sort of DVD player software that came with it as well.

I had that same problem with earlier versions of WMP...try going to download.com and downloading PowerDVD. It has a codec you need to get WMP to properly play DVDs--at least, it worked for me... _________________ avatar: Plastic!Winchester Theater by anteka @ LJ; icon by me
