when i put a dvd in my drive and i open windows media player, i select the dvd, and it looks like its playing (the seek bar plays) but no audio or video come up. whats the problem? would nero read it?

Hm, do you have Windows Media Player 11? If it's an earlier version, then I don't believe they could properly play DVDs...

About Nero, I'm not sure, since I've never used it. Sorry! If your DVD drive came with the computer, then it ought to have some sort of DVD player software that came with it as well.

I had that same problem with earlier versions of WMP...try going to download.com and downloading PowerDVD. It has a codec you need to get WMP to properly play DVDs--at least, it worked for me...
