I'm doing an english-project in school, and we are going to have a presentation of it next week. You were going to write about something in the English culture, and guess what I chose? LOST, of course...
For my presentation I am going to show the class a clip out of LOST, and since we're not very modern and we don't have a DVD in our school, I have to use a clip from a videotape (and not the DVD with season 1... )
I've got pretty much all episodes (from S1) on tape, and now I'm wondering: which scene is the best to show my class? Which is the best to get them interested?

PLEASE post your oppinion! Thanks!!

Personally, I'd go with something heavily action-packed to grab the attention (like the scenes in the pilot with all the explosions... the part with the bit of engine falling down by Charlie seems to make most people chuckle and I've noticed a lot of girls gravitate towards him at first). The scene with Sawyer shooting the bear is also another good one because the action happens fast and it holds a great deal of suspense; something missing from most television/theatre productions anymore.

Personally, I'd go with the bear shooting scene. Yes, it's rather obvious but it also allows you to stop the tape and leave your class with one heck of a cliff hanger. Group is in the jungle...they hear something... they are running. Sawyer shoots bam bam bam! Stop tape.

"And that's what fans of Lost have to deal with, on a regular basis... bloody cliffhangers."

/ Just an idea. *chuckles*
Yeah, those cliffhangers bug me, I admit it.

I'd go with the opening scenes from the last episode, the Other 48 Days, but since you on;y have S1... hmmm.... How about in the pilot when they talk to the pilot and the monster comes? That had a lot of action, and more importantly: mystery. How long does your clips have to be btw?

my presentation is going to be about 5 min (hey, explain LOST in less time...) and then I have 2 min to go (everyone gets 7 min). But if it's necessary to have a longer clip then of course I'll short my presentation.
Now, I was thinking about the scene where Hurley and Charlie goes over the bridge, you know from ep 18? I love that scene but I want a "cliffhanger" as you guys say. Hmm... I like the idea of the scene where sawyer shoots the bear, never thought of that until now. But then again, I remember when I saw the scene when they hear the French Womans distress call, and my face was like...
This will be hard but I have unti next week so I'll figure something out til then I hope...
And THANKS to everyone for posting your oppinions!! Keep em coming!

Nice choice of project selection!

If I were to choose one clip to represent LOST to people who have never seen it I would pick the scene from the Pilot (first) episode - pt 1 where it is night and Jack and Kate first make introductions to each other and suddenly they hear that sound and the camera pans around to see the reactions of nearly all the main characters. The cliffhanger is when Charlie says "terrific" It gives you a chance to set up the scene explaining about the plane crash, shows nearly all the Season 1 main characters and starts the mystery of the LOST island without giving away any crucial spoilers.

The clip turns out to be 1 minute 25 seconds I made a wmv of the clip (approx 4 MB size):

p.s. if you can spare 5 or so seconds include the part where Jack says "I don't even know your name."

I swear MoreLight wasn't that the first teaser trailer they started showing of Lost like, back in the winter/spring when it had pretty much just gone into production? Way before premiering. Excellent choice. I agree.

Oh thank you, that is a great suggestion! I want to show them a clip from the beginning of the show (like from one of the first episodes), so if they get interested they won't see any piece of like, season 2. So they can start from the beginning... great idea! And a good cliffhanger also, I mean: this question that everybody will ask themselves, we haven't even got the answer to it yet: What is out there in the jungle?
Yeah, this is the clip I'm going to use
Hey thanks everybody!!!!
