I have been all over YouTube and the Internet trying to fix this...I was working on my most recent vid, and everything was fine. Then, after doing nothing special that I know of, the preview screen went blank and I couldn't get it to come back.

- I made sure the track wasn't muted
- I made sure the preview screen was set to play
- I made sure I was clicking on a part that should have an image

The audio works and I can still add and subtract clips, but I can't see anything.

- I tried installing, reintsalling, downgrading Quicktime and that did nothing
- I tried restarting
- I tried "repairing" my iTunes thinking that might help with Quicktime

My fear is that it is a codec problem. I say that because I'm using a lot of random clips from this fansite and they were all AVI files. Those don't work well in Vegas, so I had to convert them to WMV. Could that be the problem? Could all those converted files cause a problem with the video? I've read online that AVI files are kind of a mixed bag and you don't just magically convert them.

I don't remember adding a particular clip right before the preview stopped working. But just to be safe, I deleted the last clip I added and nothing changed.

Other info:
- New projects work fine with the preview screen
- Older projects work fine
- When I extend or trim a clip on the timeline, the preview screen pops up and allows me to see what I'm doing. But then when I stop adjusting the clip and try to view the timeline normally, the preview screen is black again.

I don't know what to do short of scrapping the whole thing, and I've spent a lot of time on it! I could try deleting the last few clips I added adn seeing if that helps, but I just spent a lot of time getting them just so!

Any ideas?! Thanks!

Okay, that was fast....I figured out a work-around. I'll leave this up for future vidders unless of course you mods would like to delete it since it's solved.

I did Save As so I could play around with the file and see if I could fix it. It turns out that muting the Text track did the trick. All of a sudden, I could see the preview screen again.

Maybe something was on the Text track that was interfering? Anyway, I still don't know why but at least I don't have to scrap my vid.
