|
|
I just spotted this at Livejournal and thought it was worth passing along since I know a lot of other people use Tinypic like I do.
Quote: | Tinypic International is changing. Beginning September 23rd, you will no longer be able to upload content to Tinypic and your links will be turned off. Please begin using Photobucket to upload, share and link your images and videos.
Tinypic is no longer accepting uploads from international locations, and links are turned off. If you have content on Tinypic, you can still view the URLs and the content, but only on Tinypic. To upload, share, or link content, please go to Photobucket.com to register an account. You will need to upload your content again to your Photobucket account, but you will be able to share and link your images and videos. We’re sorry for the inconvenience and hope that you enjoy Photobucket, our premier image and video site. |
I think that REALLY sucks! Not only can international users no longer upload to Tinypic, but you can't even SEE images that other people uploaded to it? Much fail, Photobucket! (I didn't realize until this that Photobucket owns Tinypic. )
I use Tinypic for sig banners to be able to fit in under the character length requirement as well as to post random GIFs and such. That definitely sucks now to have to use other hosting places if you want people outside of the US and Canada to be able to see the pics!
They're telling you to go to Photobucket but, as a lot of people know, they've lowered their bandwidth to a point where it's difficult to not exceed your monthly allotment if you have very many pics hosted with them. Plus, I've seen people talk about uploading a graphics post at Photobucket only to have them downgrade the quality after the post has been up a few days (so a 50kb banner suddenly is 20kb, in other words ). Grr!
Imageshack is another free image hosting alternative that I use a lot. Anybody else have any reliable image hosting place they like to use?
UPDATE:
Quote: | On Sept 23, 2010 Tinypic announced without warning that they are no longer accepting uploads from "international locations" (i.e. locations outside of the USA) and that all links are turned off. A reason for this has not been provided. However, the services appear to have been restored to their former state, again without explanation. |

Hopefully they got so much flack over that boneheaded decision that they reversed it and will now work for ALL countries!

That's really unfair for both YT and now this! The Internet reaches the whole world in just seconds, why block off parts of it???
Thanks for the Imageframe suggestion (though sucks about the bandwidth running out, grr )! I haven't checked them out yet. |

Exactly, Debbie! This is just a push to make people have to take a paid account with them because they've cut the free accounts down so low, grr! |
