Hey, Nikki! Oh, most certainly, I'll be glad to see what I can do to help her get signed up here; we definitely can't have too many vidders!
I can talk to her at YT and hopefully we'll get those sign up issues resolved right away. Thanks for letting me know about it!
Hope you had a great weekend, too! ♥! |

You wrongfully accused my friend of stealing a video, so I'm trying to shut down this site. (Congratulations for not spelling it 'sight in this post, though!)
Signed, Grammar Checker #4815162342.
In all seriousness, the reasonable thing to do would be to PM Aislynn as to the accusation and get it sorted out with her, as opposed to threatening on boards. Have you tried to PM her? I've found she is a reasonable person, and I say that as someone with a documented history of being blunt and not necessarily well understood by forum moderators! If you deal with it in a responsible, levelheaded way, you may be able to smooth the waters--but threatening hacking and shutdowns isn't the right way to solve things.

Kate, lol! (And thank you for the kind words. )
AustenBurke, since you posted this twice on the forum, I'll respond to you in the Complaints, questions or concerns thread instead of both places. |

You're quite welcome. In all seriousness, I would have netted myself a warning or two throughout the years if you weren't so laid-back and able to differentiate snark from jerk (so to speak), so I mean that when I say that. I don't know if that qualifies for on-topic 'vidder' discussion, but it seems to do so to me.
I would get the popcorn ready for your reply, but I just made spinach and mushroom risotto so tasty I could cry. Want some? (Yes, I know, it's August and that's a winter dish. I don't care. I had to use up the mushrooms and the rest of the spinach before they went bad.) _________________ I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. His hair was perfect.

"Able to differentiate snark from jerk," lol! I like that, thanks!
In my opinion, one of the strengths of a community is the differing viewpoints of its members. Everybody doesn't have to think the same thing, go along with the flow, etc. But there's a big difference between, "I have a different opinion and would like to express it" and just downright breaking a rule, like the one about no clip/vid thefting.
We don't pretend to be infallible, which is why we start any sort of inquiry (even one as blatant as this) by opening a dialogue and asking the person in question to talk to us. It's surprising how many people just don't want to take that option. What can we do beyond that? *shrugs*
However, the most important question of the day is this one:
How quickly do you think you can send me some of that spinach and mushroom risotto? It sounds delicious! |

Differing viewpoints and the ability to self-police, too. I know once I was a little sharper/meaner than I intended to be to someone in the spam thread (not that I intended to be mean, but you know what I mean), and that person called me out on it, and I apologized. No warning necessary; no (as far as I can tell) lasting hard feelings.
Other forums on which I have participated have ridden hard on the 'we police things, so the members don't have to' trail, and to me that sort of approach is always doomed to defeat, because, as you said, the mods are just as fallible as are the members. A consensus of eight people with special board-fu is never going to work all the time; agreement and diplomacy between members is a much safer bet.
... wow, now my brain hurts. I need to stop thinking so hard after dinner. And I have one serving of the risotto left (I admit I ate two, but it was a main course, and the least healthy thing in it was a sprinkling of Parmesan cheese, so...) -- I can send it to you ASAP, but what do you have for a trade? Lost Video Island has no currency, you see, so I must resort to bartering for dessert. Particularly for anything coconut or possibly a slice of pecan pie (as I have chocolate chip cookies already, so I'm set for chocolate.) _________________ I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. I agree, really the best "policy" for any site to have is a responsible community that shows respect to other members. We're all only human, tempers are going to flare, people are going to have bad days, etc. But as long as things are handled in a responsible manner and all is well at the end of the day, that's the outcome we're hoping for. We're just here to keep things from getting out of hand or, of course, for when somebody does something clearly out of bounds.

*declares* You can NEVER have too much chocolate! *thumps fist on desk*
However, it just so happens that pecan pie is a specialty of mine! (Okay, so not really. But I like pecan pie, does that count? )

I would like to notify you that I made a pecan pie for Thanksgiving.
It was delicious, and my parents thought it was delicious too.
I have been asked to make a chocolate pie for Christmas. So you see, life imitates art. Or, uh, internet b.s. _________________ I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. His hair was perfect.

Ooo, I'm glad to see that my magical pie mojo is still working very well... *rubs hands together while quasi-evil incidental music plays ominously in the background*
Yes, I'm taking over the world... one pie at a time, mwahahahahaha!
Ahem.
That sounds delicious! I haven't had pecan pie in soooooo long. I just haven't had the proper pecan pie occasion come up, I suppose. I need to pencil that in as a holiday. *nodnod* |

Also: The pecan pie was entirely from scratch, crust and all. Used the Karo corn syrup recipe for the pie, and the basic flaky pie crust at Epicurious. Enjoy!
(PS some changes to Karo reicpe: I cut half the called-for sugar with Splenda because there was already about a ton of sugar in; I also used more like 2/3 of a cup of corn syrup as opposed to a cup, and it held together perfectly fine.) _________________ I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. Oh my, that looks scrumptious! \o/ Thanks so much for that! (And Splenda is definitely an awesome way to bring the sugar amount down without sacrificing taste. ) |

Question about the Sept. Contest... I am Swaping Eric on True Blood with Sawyer and it's fitting very well. but, I had an idea last night to make sawyer a new love interest instead. Will that still work having Sawyer be a new shapeshifter that becomes a love interest or do we have to make him like he is Eric, with Erics voice and stuff. I think the more I think about It I get myself more mixed up!!! Thanks for any help... I have one part where I want to add Kate - but can I add her as "Kate" or does she have to be swapped for like Tara???? DOes that make any senses? |

First of all, Sawyer as Eric? *swoons*
Ahem, anyway! To answer your question, the main thing to remember is that you're swapping Sawyer into Eric's role. So whether he's still a con man with a heart of gold who becomes a vampire (meaning he's still more like Sawyer, just how Sawyer would have been if he would've been on TB and in Eric's position) or whether you're just literally making him stand in as Eric, he'll need to still fit that position.
In other words, you mentioned him being a shapeshifter, which would be more along the lines of making him like an OC (original character) or would actually be more like swapping him out for Alcide or Sam (I know there's a "werewolves are not shapeshifters" thing but hey, they both change shape, IMO, lol! ).
In the same vein, (no vampire pun intended ) you could certainly use Kate in your vid but she would need to be in a role that Eric has around him already. We answered a similar sort of question about using Jack and Kate's footage but casting them in other roles. So basically how it would apply in your case is that you could have Kate as Sookie but we're wanting the emphasis to be on the fandom you're swapping into as much as possible rather than just on relying on the existing Lost footage. In this case, since both Sawyer AND Kate would be coming in from Lost together, you would want to keep in mind who they're supposed to be on TB, not just do a recreation of their Skate scenes.
Or you could always cast Kate as somebody other than Sookie, her as Pam would be fun! Or as Ginger, lol! *imagines Kate doing a lot of shrieking* But you wouldn't want to make her essentially an OC, where she's not really standing in for anybody on TB but is just coming in as a new character. That's a little beyond what we're looking for with this contest.
Anyway, I hope this all makes sense! I know it's kind of a twisty concept but so far we're seeing some awesome vids coming in for it and I'd love to see your "Sawyer as Eric" interpretation! |
