Yeah, and he's quoted in saying, "you don't know psychiatry, I do."

I say, PROVE IT! The man is a high school dropout. I'd like to know where he gets his credibility from. Xenu? Elmo? Cookie Monster? What makes the whole thing really really sad is that not only does he (and John Travolta, Kelly Preston, and Kirstie Alley, who has a few screws loose herself) actually believe this crap, but he donates a buttload of his money to it. There's crazy, then there's stupid.

The fact of the matter is, he has no degree, no proof that he knows a damn thing about what he's talking about. He needs to worry more about the fact that his brain may be on auction at eBay than whether or not Brooke Shields and hundreds upon thousands of women the world over are taking prescription drugs to correct and conquer a serious disease. These drugs are "prescribed by a doctor" for a reason. It's not like Brooke's flying out to Jefferson County MO every two months looking for a meth lab to feed a disgusting junkie habit (Jefferson County MO happens to be the #1 county in the US for Meth production, and I'm highly embarassed that I live 2 miles from it). You know, call me crazy... oh wait, call me depressed... boohoo TC!

p.s. I luv what she said about Tom's kids, "They're exceptional people." Again, WTF?!?!

Now I'm not one to judge people for their beliefs, but a "religion" that was admittedly started just to bilk people out of their money sounds pretty fishy to me.

LOL Catholicism

Not to soubnd like I'm onTom's side or anything, because I really don't know much about the whole thing in the first place, and I couldn't care LESS about the actors once they're off-screen (they aren't royalty thank you very much...) but for the sake of argument I shall now take up the other side of the story.

Scientology isn't really about belief in some unknown thing, it's about a set of morals, much like Buddism isn't an actual belief. The biggest stretch in them from common morals would have to be that psychiatry thing... lol but even that has some grain of truth to it... the problem with antidepressants and why doctors are more reluctant to give them out is that when they run out, the drop down to depression is even steeper than if they weren't used in the first place. The weening off is a very tough process too. But they're drugs nonetheless, so long enough exposure leads to addiction... It all leads up to a very tough, or near impossible, process of getting off the pills So the dangetrs of them can kinda outweigh the help, which is probably why Scientology picked it to pick on. Also keep in mind that if this religion was made for the sole purpose of making money, then the guy had to pick some factors to differ it from other religions. This owuld probably be one of them. But still, a bit of truth in everything.
As for the psychiatry, thing, that seems to be more of a tack-on to the other lol. Wait, it's supposed to be the other way arounf right? Wait, so is it "no talking ot patients" or "No electrocuting patients and injecting them with insulin in torture devices intended to reset their brain the proper way" ? because I don't know about that other one.... maybe I'd have to agree.

As for Katie HBolmes, my theory is she's either a robot Tom made in his basement, kinda like in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, or she's just not the brightest girl in the bush

And also the media is eating this craziness up, and twisting it around, even if a little bit. What better story than the couple of crazies (not) getting married?

But he did puch Oprah! *gasp*!

I just read that interview. Holy shit.

Can you say BRAINWASHED!!!

It's like she was completely incapable of answering ANY question without saying "I love Tom. Tom is the best. I adore him. He's the greatest man in the history of planet earth. Blah blah blah."

Crazy.

CRA-ZY!

This lends further creedence to the whole arranged marriage thing. Part of the contract is "You will never say anything bad about Tom. EVER. You are happy. You are in love. That's all they need to know."

Yeah and Tom's claim to "know" psychiatry just makes me laugh. If he DID know psychiatry, he would realize that his arguments make absolutely no sense.

I hope his career totally crashes and burns and he becomes a complete C-list celebrity joke in the next couple of years.

I was thinking the same thing. It reminded me so much of the Stepford Wives... wait a tick... OOOoooooooooooh, so that's why Nicole Kidman made that movie, I get it now!

I think it's already started...

I also luv completely what Alton Brown said:

Dear Tom Cruise,

Your lack of belief in the existence of clinical depression tells me one thing: you didn’t spend $10. to see War Of The Worlds. If vitamins can possibly help me out of this spiraling funk, please let me know which ones. Dinos? Pebbles? Freds?

Please, I’m crying out for help.

Alton Brown

Me too, can't get enough. He's just snarky enough for me! I would like to take this moment to say, no I didn't waste $10 to see War of the Worlds (as I didn't waste my $$$ to see his past 5 or so films as well). I'm also thinking I won't waste $5 at Blockbuster to rent it once it comes out on DVD. Now I understand that there are a few people in our forum who have seen this movie and happened to like it, that's fine, more power to ya, I have nothnig against ya. My mom and step dad happened to see it and told me that it ID4 was 10 times better. I'll take their judgement over anyones. I happened to catch Minority Report on cable one day on TV when NOTHING ELSE was on, and I found myself cheering Colin Farrell on to catch Tom. Maybe it's just me...

Did you also hear that Katie is going to take Tom's last name? That's rare in Hollywood. So her name will be Katie Holmes-Nut Job

Conan O'brien said it.

weirdness,
If Cruise and Katie Holmes wed, each of his wives will have been eleven years younger than the last. (Mimi Rogers, b. 1956; Nicole Kidman, b. 1967; Katie Holmes, b. 1978)

Another thing that bugs the hell out of me about Tom Cruise is his complete denouncement of psychiatry and psyciatric drugs!

I take anti-depressants. I have for several years now. When I DON'T take them (because I have tried going off them for months, sometimes years at a time) I get such paralyzing depression that I can barely leave my house and I generally want to kill myself. Anti-depressents allow me to feel normal and to function as a regular human being.

So yeah, psychiatry works. Mental illness DOES exist! It's like he thinks people like me just make this shit up to get attention!

I don't have a problem with people saying that psychiatric drugs aren't for them (or don't work for them), or that they aren't personally helped by psychiatry, but to denounce the entire practice and to say that nobody EVER needs medication for any mental illness is just ignorant and asinine.

Tom Cruise has the gall to bad mouth Brooke Shields for taking anti-depressents for her post-partum depression. I'm sorry, but Tom Cruise (or any man for that matter) has NO RIGHT to tell any woman suffering from that that she would be better off if she just took vitamins!

Depression is a REAL problem! It's not make-believe! Wheras scientology IS make-believe, but Tom seems to have no problem believing in THAT!

You do not realise how much I love you right now i have taken anti-depressants for about 4 years now, unsuccessfully attempted to come of them a couple of times, and people just don't get it, seriously i try to explain my depression to people all the time and most people don't understand, i have had people say to me just get over it or just stop taking the meds.... and it just ain't as easy as it sounds, coz its an illness, a chemical imbalance as the doctors say, you can't just get over it at the snap of your fingers you know.

i could have nowhere near put it better myself RW

thank-you
