I think that maybe the Losties stay on the Island forever but FROM the 70s so that by the time themselves crash on the Island in 2004, they'd be old.. And there doesn't seem to be a large bunch of elderly Others,. so maybe they live somewhere else on the Island..in order to make the story work.

Because I can't imagine that they'd leave the Island AGAIN!

And possibly the only person who would go back would be Claire because kate told her mother that she's going back for her. And also THAT way Desmond's vision isn't wrong that he sees Claire leave the Island.

(Really, I just want to point out how much Nestor Carbonell looks like Peter Wyngarde, one of my favorite folks to play Number Two. Maybe it's the eyeliner! Still, I like Wyngarde's Two, since I'm fascinated by the idea of an absentee Number Two who clearly has better things to do than keep tabs on his cheery little gulag. I do think there are comparisons/allusions to my beloved "Prisoner," and this might be one of them, if a subtle nod at best. Occam's Razor says that he has the eyeliner because of a nod to Egyptian culture, but Occam's Razor is no fun! If Richard takes up karate or wears a dandy scarf and shades, we'll know for sure!
