I love Kate's character. I just think the writers have Lost they're way when it comes to writing Kate's character over the last few seasons. I'm hopeful that they will get her character back on track this season, because I think Evangeline Lilly is a great actress and deserves more meaningful story lines than chasing after a guy.

The worst part is that Kate gets hate for starting off as an independant lead female to running around just being part of a ship.

I really love Kate, I always loved her character..some people start to dislike her, but her character is just so interesting and I love it. Her character is very dynamic and I love the thrill of her character and how she's always on the run. (Not to mention I LOVE her first name <3  )
I agree too, she's got flaws but everyone has 'em. I love how she does the bad things that she does but she is so good at heart, her helping Claire and such is a beautiful aspect of Kate, helping and being able to do the right thing. Plus, she can be pretty bad-ass! 
Oh and also, Kate has always reminded me of one of my best friends, I think she looks like her, her voice sounds like her, their hair are both curly and brown and their personalities are fairly similar, so that's why I like Kate so much.
Here's a picture of me and my friend, tell me if you think she looks like Kate a little bit! (it might just be me)  She's on the right and I am on the left. This pic may not be the best one, but if you ever saw her in person, you'd know what I mean!

ooo yeah she does look like Kate and sometimes its the person's mannerisms that remind you of the person too which makes them look like them even more.

A lot of the people who hate her hate for A) she killed a guy (Her dad) and B) she's in love with two men.
She didn't kill him to kill him. She killed him for many reasons. I believe that she was raped/sexually assaulted by Wayne BUT everyone disagrees with me. I just have my reasons to believe that, someone even got mad at me for thinking that, implied I was stupid because he said "If it doesn't happen in the show it doesn't exist". I am a writer, I believe in reading between the lines. Just because he said he didn't touch her, doesn't mean he didn't. She also did it to save her mom.
And loving two guys, I don't think that's a reason to hate a character.
Anyway. Kate rocks. She's independent, fun, and we don't have many female strong characters right now. Not as many as we used to in TV.

Sign me up for that theory as well. I've dealt with abuse cases on a professional basis, and although I won't claim to be an expert by any means, I can say at least that she reacts in keeping with what I know, particularly in the fact that she's borderline non-functional around guys to whom she's attracted, and much more capable in the company of guys to whom she isn't attracted. Couple that with her need to be around either Jack or Sawyer, mood-dependent, and I think it's a pretty clear-cut case anyway.
But to me, hating her for killing Wayne (however cold-bloodedly she did it) is kind of a ludicrous reason, especially considering the body count of just about everyone else on the island. Characters that I vastly prefer have far less defensible killings, both legally and morally.
I also think Kate isn't as independent anymore as she was at the start of the show (I saw hints of it in s6 promo, but this last episode was back to the usual routine.) I was never particularly drawn to her character, but I found her more interesting, for the reasons you cite, before the triangle cropped up.
On-topic with the thread topic: I also am named Kate, like Jinlovessunxx, so I also have to compliment Kate on her name.

Glad to know I am not the only one. I think people are afraid of rape. Which they should be. People don't want to know that their favorite characters were raped.

I don't think she's as independent as she used to be. I think they force the triangle to keep both ships from watching. Because I do believe that someone would stop watching if she chose either Jack or Sawyer. There are people who are watching just for that. Or would get that upset.
Right now I am more interested to know about off island Kate as well. I found those scenes very interesting. |

Oh, totally. When I was heavily involved in Lost fandom a few years back, I knew a lot of people like that, and ran screaming from them. As I'm a little too old to be in that phase, and was even then, the appeal of watching a show just for one single relationship eludes me. But then again, my favorite TV series is one where our pal Number Six can't sleep with any of the girls that are thrown at him, because the Village is definitely going to use that against him, and the girls are probably spying on him anyway. So maybe that colors my thinking a little with regards to that topic!
Now to find a thread more appropriate to my tastes in characters to diverge into fandom chatter as well...

Yeah. I get what you mean. I don't mind the relationships, but I like the character development and the overall story.
I like the relationship between Jack and Kate, but I don't watch the show just for that. What attracted me to the show was how one show could hold a story like Lost has with it's tight continuity and have all of these incredible characters come together. I've never seen a show where I think every character not only adds to the story, but the actors deliveries are in sync. |

I know,I loved that!
I would really love if Kate ended up being the "hero" of this. She's been trashed so much and hated so much over the series tht it would be a such a "neener neener neener" moment. lol.
The scene with her and claire, telling her that she took Aaron was so great. I love how she kinda accomplished what she set out to do. She told Claire she came back to reunite them and she seemed so emotional that she got to tell her. Kate is so misunderstood.

yeah that scene was so great! I loved the little Miles and Kate moment too...when she walked into the temple looking all hot with her sleeves rolled up on her shoulder and Miles is like "Wow" hehe...I think Mate would be fun to ship since Skate is going no where.
