I continue to have the most annoying problem, lately I work on a video it's as if the video I work on gets corrupted and freezes so bad it wont let me continue work on them.
It was freezing a lot but it'd always shake out of it and go back to normal but now when I open the video it loads and then goes right to 'not responding' and wont shake out of it.
I tried these two steps Kat told me about. It wouldn't let me copy the files and put them into a empty project, and I did the opening of the backup file but it freezes a lot.
Does anyone else have this problem?
It makes me want to stop vidding because I work days on a video and it just wont let me work on it anymore. |

Oh, that's so annoying!
Hm, let's go back to basics and see if we can't figure this out. (Sorry if I've asked some of these questions before but I can't remember off the top of my head what your set-up is. )
1. Are you running Windows XP or Vista? What version is your Vegas?
2. How much RAM and hard drive space do you have?
3. Have you installed the DivX codec pack?
4. What format are your source files in? (Probably .AVI if they're full eps, .WMV if they're clips. )
5. Can you play the files in something like Windows Media Player all right? Can you open them in Windows Movie Maker and make a "test vid" to see if WMM is able to work with the files and render them and all that?
6. In your current Vegas project, can you render what work you already have done or does it freeze before you can even try rendering? (If you can render, then I'd suggest doing that as soon as possible, just so you'll have a copy of what work you've got done so far. )
7. Are you having any other computer issues? Any other programs that don't work quite right? Any new programs that have been installed recently and then these problems seemed to start? Particularly security programs like an anti-virus, anti-malware or a new firewall?
8. Is this problem on every project or just this one? Llike if you start a whole new project and import in a different song and different source material, can you vid with them or do the same issues start happening?
There's got to be some sort of conflict in here between the computer, Vegas and the source files that's causing Vegas to freeze and crash, it's just a matter of finding what exactly it is so you can solve it!
Sorry for the long list of questions! Hopefully we can help you get this fixed! |

Yes, I can play the files in Windows Media Player. I haven't tried WMM because I hate it. I used to work with it when I was starting out, then I switched to Vegas.
My computer has been wiped clean due to a hard drive malfunction. I am pretty sure this is purely a Vegas thing before the hard drive issue about two months ago the same situation happened.
I only have had this problem with Sony.
It's happened to only this project and another one and I think I know the reason now.
I ripped my own stuff from a project called 'Magic DVD Ripper, the video that also flipped out was done with the same things. (I didn't rip all my own clips, but from stuff I couldnt' find online). Could that be the reason?
And no. I am not having any other computer issues, just with Sony Vegas.
But I worked on another video in between the one that screwed up the first time and this one, without using my own clips and it's fine.
I think I found out my own problem. |

I think you've hit the nail on the head, then. There's some sort of codec conflict between how Magic DVD Ripper is encoding the clips and how Vegas is trying to read them.
I don't know very much about DVD ripping, sad to say, but you might try putting the clips you ripped into WMM and seeing if you can render them again at a high quality setting so to try and not lose quality. If you can, then you should be able to use those rendered clips in Vegas after that because the rendering process will re-encode them with a codec your computer already has. Then (hopefully) that will make the clips work right in Vegas after that.
If WMM can't open/render them, then you'll either need to try Magic DVD Ripper's site (if they have one) and see if you can find anybody there having that same sort of problem. There may be some sort of setting you can adjust when you rip the clips again that will make them work all right with Vegas. Or you may need a different, more Vegas-compatible sort of ripping program.
Good luck! I hope you're able to get it all worked out soon! |

How would I re-encode it?
And how would I use WMM to render it...what would I render it too?
Thanks. |

I realized it's not the clips I ripped myself.
It's a Sawyer clip from Tabusla Rusa, from Sawyer's website. |

Depending on your version of WMM (Vista's version has different options than XP's version ), I'd just have a look at what custom options it offers and pick something that sounds more on the high end rather than low end. Then go ahead and render it and see how it looks. If it comes out too small or of bad quality, try rendering it again at the next setting up. Once you get it to an acceptable quality, then try importing it into your project and hopefully it'll work without having all of those issues!

I had a couple of clips from one of those sites that gave me trouble like that, as well. I'd suggest trying the same thing, rendering the clip in WMM and try using that instead, unless you're able to get that clip from some other site. |

Luckily I don't need that clip. I am just glad it wasn't what I had ripped because I LOVE the clips I have of it. LOL. |
