Maybe it's the video card drivers. If you select system on control panel you can find out what video card you have and just type it into google and drivers and you shoul be able to find some.

You can tell it not to automatically restart on a blue screen if you goto advanced tab on system and then start up and recovery settings and take the tick off the automatically restart on system failure.

Oh, Kat, that sucks! I hope you get that sorted out soon! Have you added any new codec packs or put on any other new programs recently? Sometimes it can be something totally unrelated that's messed things up! Also, if it does it again and you can jot down any part of the error numbers or message that it gives you, that's something you can search and will often give you a clue as to what might be going wrong. (I keep a notepad and pencil handy by the computer just for that very reason.)

I've had terrible luck with System Restore, not with it messing anything up, but every time I've tried it, I get the same message when the computer restarts: "System Restore failed; this computer could not be reset to an earlier date." Well, then, what's the point of System Restore, then if it never works??? I know it's saved a lot of people but I've never gotten it to work right for me, unfortunately.

Good luck, hon!

sos; i missed this Ais. When this first started; the day before I had installed AVG so I figured that might be the issue. I immediately deleted it and got a different software program but the problem just continued. The problem with System Restore for me is that this problem started months ago. During Wimbledon; i remember it clearly because I move my furniture around to watch the tennis and I was sitting in my 'tennis chair' when it happened the first time. anyway, Wimbledon went from June 23-July 6 so to be safe I'd restore on June 23 or nearest to it but im worried that I'll lose everything I've done from then til now.

I have an external hard-drive so I guess I can just transfer it all over if its worrying me but Charlee; if you say it doesn't bugger up my files, I"ll believe you and I can undo it? do you know how to do it in Vista; could you talk me through it?

Yeah, If you're worried about your files then yeah you can move them I know it's never affected my files before.

Hmm, I'm trying to think whether it'll be able to go back that far with vista, but there shouldn't be a problem Yup, totally undoable if you're not happy Yeah I know how to do it, using vista myself Yeah sure just let me know when you want to do the restore and I'll help

I was actually thinking this shutting down issue only happens when I use sony vegas. So maybe I should delete it and download it again? My only issue with that is; will my half-finished projects open? I use 7 now, if i download 7 again, will they still open???

Hey everybody, I'm new here and just recently started using Sony Vegas Pro 8. My question is this... How come when i render my movie as an .avi the reversed sped up parts of my movie are black when i play the avi? I'm not sure if it has something to do with the reversed clips being subclips or what . Sorry if this question was already answered, just really late here so I cant read back for too long.

yeah; that happens to me in vegas 7. i've found the only way to get around it is to save the clips you want to reverse in .wmv and then import them again. im not sure why it does it; vegas just has issues with AVI files sometimes :S

hmm, thats weird. do you mean it said there was no template for .wmv? cos there usually is by default. but i remember when i started with vegas 7 I had no audio effects and all I had to do was download updates and they were there. perhaps you could try that?

to check for updates, open vegas, select 'Help' from the toolbar, then click 'Sony On The Web' then click "latest updates" and it'll take you to a webpage where you find your version of Vegas, in your case Pro 8, and see if there are updates. if there are, download and install them, re-open vegas and see if the template is there

if that doesnt work, could you possible send me a screencap of what you see when it says there's no template? it might make it easier for me to help

well I changed the clips back and reedited most of it... but now only some parts work and others are just black. Most of the footage it skips over is really quick sped up video. It plays fine in the preview in Vegas... This is getting so annoying

edit:

I took one part of my video from the beginning and put it towards the end sped up and that wont even show in the avi... Any help would be much appreciated on this

Sorry, rapozaster. I have no idea about that

I do though, have my own random avi question. My sister's vegas plays the video and audio of .avi whereas mine just plays the audio. If it's possible, is there a way to make mine play video and audio or just video? It's really annoying.

Ah, unfortunately, that never works for me I'll try it again to make sure!

Nope, still only gives me the audio and the video part is "offline" is there anything I can install to make Sony Vegas accept it? If I can get avic to work I'd be happy with that but I don't get why it never works for me

ETA: I just checked on Sony Vegas and it doesn't even give me the audio properly, it gives me about six seconds of messed up audio (bits of audio from different parts of the ep) out of the whole episode.
