Does anybody here compress their vids into Xvid? I would like to start doing this because the vids that are rendered/compressed/whatever this way ( please see the following vid for an example: http://dualbunny.livejournal.com/107517.html ) are such good quality that it almost makes me ashamed of every single one of my own vids. I mean it is just SCARY good.
I have a how-to site on this that is very informative and extensive, and I have the programming downloaded (for the most part... I think?) but everything is so incredibly overwhelming that it would be REALLY helpful to have someone to discuss with about it in layman's terms before I dive into the big how-to guide. I'm at the point right now where I don't even know which way is up.
Does anyone here do this with their vids? Or have you in the past? (Even though this seems like the kind of thing that you don't come back from once you try, haha.)
Seriously, once you see a vid that's got the Xvid codec, you will NOT believe your eyes. I feel like somewhere along the road I took a potty break and the vidding train left without me. I have no idea how I neglected to get on board with this kickass format. |

Well Vegas doesn't support rendering to xvid unfortunately :/ I suppose you could render it to a massive uncompressed avi and then encode it into xvid using SUPER.

Sorry to spam your thread, KC, but I need to ask Paul a question.
Is that "Super" thing for real? It's completely free and it can change any format to practically any other? My Vegas is sooo strange. It doesn't take AVI (despite the 4CC Changer), and when I convert the AVI to WMV in WMM, they freeze up and I need to shut down Vegas. Practically nothing works in Vegas and I'm desperately trying to find new ways to make things work in there. Do you think I could try converting AVIs to WMVs with this Super?
And where do I download it? I can't find the link.

Yeah it's completly free! And you can convert to any format. It's fast and it allows batch encode.

Right here Kat - http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html I've been using it for a while now, my boyfriend showed it to me. Works great!
Just scroll to the bottom of the page and there's a download link.
Oh, and to add to the Xvid discussion, which is I came in this thread to start  . Using Xvid compression is good if you want to save space. Most people won't because it's just an extra step they have to take to render their vid for upload. I have a lot of my vids rendered in DivX format (different but also a great compression rate), but they are mainly just for my own personal viewing and are enormous in pixel size.
Give it try, I'd be intersted to see if it improves the quality of, like maybe, a YouTube uploaded video.  |

Just kind of a head's up on this. I am going to be using this guide: http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/avtechbeta/index.html
And the AMVapp.exe application (Which contains a crapload of free programming), to make my next vid.
I'm actually going to try to pull my footage directly from my DVDs. I already used the DVD Decrypter to rip the miniseries (it's 3 hours long and it took only about 20 minutes to rip). The footage is in a foreign format to me (vob) and it's in several different (6-ish?) files (that are around 750MBs each, eeek!) They look gorgeous in comparison to my downloaded version of the miniseries. I mean, by a longshot! (And here I thought THAT looked good.) I mean, WOW, it's beautiful and huge, but that's not quite what I had in mind. (I'd like it all in one file if possible, and a liiiiiiiittle bit smaller haha.)
So my next step is to do a little more research on DVD Decrypter and see if there's a way to change that up. Or maybe find out what I can do with those VOB files, like if there's a way to connect them. (Perhaps with HJSplit?)

I'm pretty sure Dr. Divx does VOB files. It cut a 76mb file down to 17mb file without losing barely any quality and you can specifiy the size of the resolution. Super also converts VOBs to whatever format you want them.

| It's a pretty famous tutorial. I've seen it cited multiple places when people talk about vidding (especially Xvid.) I guess the guy just happens to vid to anime. |

It's giving me a headache, but I feel that ultimately, it will be worth it to prep all my BSG footage in this way - because that is the fandom I am most interested in vidding these days and for the forseeable future. But if I can find the HQ non-marked (sci-fi, skyone, etc.) footage on my own without ripping it, I will certainly use that. But so far I haven't had much luck in that department.
I'm sure it's something I will be VERY happy with once I'm done but currently I'm just losing my mind trying to get it done. I have been reading the guide pretty much from top to bottom for what I'm trying to do with the VOB files and I must have misinterpreted or missed a part altogether because I got to the part RIGHT before I compress it into one full AVI and it gave me an error.

I'll look it over and see if I can make some sense of it.
oh wow, they are using DVD Decryptor. I use that. It's quite simple once you get the hang of it. Just try using it with something small first so you can tweak it to rip the vob files the way you want them.
That is a really good guide. Glad you posted that. |
