OK, so does this look acceptable? Saved with your suggested settings.
darkest.wmv - 2.56MB (9 seconds)
darkest.wmv - 0.93MB (why is it smaller? who knows - and I can't figure out why it pixels out some when Karl's running through the woods, either) (16 seconds)
It looks all right to me but I'd like another eye to know if that's the right size and such.
(Edit for typos. PS any luck with the numbering?) _________________ I saw a werewolf drinking a pina colada at Trader Vic's. His hair was perfect.

So I havent made a vid in ages, and I just got this !crazay idea for one. So I imported my .avi files into Vegas and all of a sudden its not taking them anymore! And yes i'm using the avic code thing and changing them to DIVX, but nothing!
No message pops up saying whats wrong, it just not letting me put in on the timeline. When I open it in the trimmer it says "media offline" where the video should be.

Still not working! I even re-installed vegas!
EDIT: OMG HOW WIERD. Its working now heh.. oops. I have no idea what happend! Well, actually I do, I wrote DIVX in lowercase instead I'm a dummy. _________________

sorry if this has been brought up before, but how do you reverse a clip in vegas 7? for that matter, is there an add on for WMM that does the same thing? _________________

Not as far as I've ever found. That seems to be one of the things that WMM just can't be convinced to do, even with XML trickery! (Although I need to include the disclaimer that I'm not familiar with WMM Vista so hopefully somebody like Kate (thefilmchick) can answer that part... )
I also don't know Vegas 7, of course, but with 6 it's just like Becca said, right-click the clip and "reverse clip" is one of the options. |

Okay, since I'm a complete twit when it comes to the technical names for things, I'm going to ask a lot of patience from anyone who decides to help me and I'm apologizing for this and thanking you in advance.
So I'm not COMPLETELY new to Vegas, but I would like to utilize the cool features more effectively.
Could someone please, in a simple step-by-step matter, explain to me how to acheive the "disappearing act?" That is, when an item fades away leaving only the background. And if this has been explained before, I'm sorry for taking up space and would gladly accept a working link to the section where it was explained.
Thanks! _________________

okay so you need to take a screencap and clone (or erase) the person out.
Start with your clip with the person and fade it into the screencap. that simple _________________

Like Becca said, that's pretty much the trick. It's all in prepping a "clean" shot without the person or object in it then it's just a simple fade into that shot (or if you want the person to *poof* out of the shot, then you just run the clip right up to the clean shot and they seem to vanish).
If you get lucky, you may find a scene where the camera stays locked in place and the person walks out of it (such as Sawyer standing up on the hill looking at the "real" Island from Alcatraz). You just edit the scene so that he's standing there, then grab the scene after he's walked out of the frame and fade the two together. That will help to keep some motion in the shot, rather than sometimes it's obvious you've switched to a still shot if the original shot had a great deal of movement in it. (Obviously there's not a lot you can do about that if that's the case. ) ♥! |

Thanks, Becca and Ais.
But I told you I was slow. And here comes the dumbest question of the day...
How do I screencap? I don't see any button in Vegas that allows for that.
ETA: Got it! Yay for Vegas FAQs! _________________

D'oh! Not a dumb question at ALL! I had to ask about that one myself! It's not clearly marked and I still to this day end up trying to cap out of the trimmer instead of off the timeline like you have to (at least in Movie Studio). Anyway, I'm just sorry I forgot to mention it before.
But bravo for you on finding it yourself! Don't hesitate to ask if you need anything else! *hugs!* ♥! |

Split screens you need two video tracks. So right click on the timeline and select create new video track twice. The video effect you need to create split screens is the cookie cutter which cuts bits out of clip and you can feather them to blend them in better. Apply cookie cutter to the clip on the top video track and it will cut away revealing the bottom clip.
Zooming in.. well you're going to have to do it manually.. on a clip you'll notice a plus symbol. Click it and it will take you to the pan/crop window. At the bottom of the pan/crop window is a timeline. If you click anywhere on the timeline it will create a little dot. Then click on the dot and move the pan crop in and it will zoom in up to that point.
Hope that helps! _________________

ok, i have an issue now, nothing to do with splitting or zooming. when i cut my audio track, it automatically fades the song in and out on the split area and i dont know how to stop it. its a really small fade in/out so it sounds like the song jumps. i think i may have clicked something that makes it do this but i dont know what, anyone help? _________________
