I am SO furious right now! I've been watching for Sony Acid Music Studio (which is basically the audio editing portion that comes in the full version of Vegas but is missing in Vegas Movie Studio) to go on sale. A couple of months ago, I spotted it offered with a $30 rebate, bringing the price down to $20. Since I've seen it in stores up to $80 before, I jumped on it right away.
It came in the mail and I sent in all of the rebate stuff that they asked for: the rebate form filled out, a copy of the invoice/receipt and the UPC symbol cut off the bottom of the box. And I've been waiting and waiting for that rebate check. Well here yesterday I get a postcard saying that they're not going to honor my rebate request because I didn't send in the UPC symbol. So I call the number on the postcard and get THE most unhelpful guy in the world. So I ask to talk to his supervisor and get THE most rude and sarcastic woman in the world. The bottom line is this: they're saying I didn't send in the UPC symbol. If I want my rebate check, I have to send in the UPC symbol. WHICH I CAN'T BECAUSE I CUT IT OFF THE BOX AND SENT IT TO THEM AS INSTRUCTED. Exactly HOW am I supposed to do that?
Then they BOTH have the nerve to chew me out for not keeping a copy of the UPC symbol. So I finally say, "You mean if I had a copy of the UPC symbol, I'd get my rebate check?"
"Well," said the sarcastic supervisor, "we'd at least think about it."
To say I'm stunned is an understatement. They refused to budge on this, even though I can send them another copy of my receipt proving I at least bought it during the correct time and all that. I even said I can send a copy of the box showing the UPC symbol cut out but how in the WORLD can I send the UPC symbol itself when I already SENT IT TO THEM???
"We only have your say so that you sent it," the supervisor said. "There's no proof."
When all was said and done, I said that if that's the way they're going to treat their customers, then they've lost my business for good (and considering my Sony VCR is getting ready to need to be replaced and I've been using Sony VCR tapes in it as well as how I've been recommending Sony Vegas Movie Studio to every vidder I know, that's more than just one product we're talking about) and the lady SCOFFED at me! Like, so what? Who are you? One customer?
Well, this one customer is posting this on every Internet venue I can find. Beware of buying ANYTHING from Sony and expecting to get a rebate back from them, even if you follow the instructions. Weirdly, I always do make a copy of the UPC symbol before I send it in but this time I just forgot. This was right as the work was starting on my house and things were just in utter chaos and I forgot to make a copy. But I know for dead-level CERTAIN that I enclosed the UPC symbol because I both remember putting it in there and I remember feeling it inside the envelope when I put it in the slot at the post office. I sent it to them.
And now they've cheated me out of $30.
PS - It's not that I don't understand that customers try to cheat the company all the time and they have to have these "safety measures" in place to try and make sure that you're legit. But I followed their instructions and they're still gonna cheat ME. So how is THAT fair? And it was just both of their attitudes, like "Pfft, you're such a liar, you didn't send it, you're just trying to cheat us" that made me the most furious of all.

Jerks. You should've told them you were gonna recommend to all of your friends and family that from now on, we just pirate their software and buy APEX for VCRs and DVD players instead of Sony I think the pirating might've gotten 'em riled a little In any case, I'm sorry they were a-holes Want me to kick them in the teeth? The Dean clones are cocking their rocksalt guns right now, actually... _________________ avatar: Plastic!Winchester Theater by anteka @ LJ; icon by me

Ooo, sic the rocksalt shotgun-toting Dean clones on 'em, posthaste! I tell you I was awfully tempted to say something like that, "And now I'm going to encourage everybody to pirate your software!!!!" then I pictured silence on the other end of the line, then her saying, "Please hold while we transfer you over to the FBI..."

Nope, I've just got the regular version, which was all they were offering at the time. With the rebate I got on it and the rebate I should've got on Acid MS, I would've had the equivalent of the platinum version for $30 total.
Now what I need? A big group hug to make me feel better!
