I've seen help topics or tutorials on here about Sony Vegas 6. I'm not really sure what the difference is, but I have Sony Movie Studio + DVD, which was much much in my affordable price range. I was wondering if anyone else has this great program?
Another question is about DVD Shrink. I did get the link from one of the threads on here, but my trial has expired and I honestly don't have the money to buy it at the moment, which means all I've wanted to do when it comes to Lost vidding has now been placed on pause. Are there any other DVD back-up programs out there that I could get? I'm asking here, because perhaps someone has used one besides DVD Shrink.
So far, I've only made two Lost Vids and I would really like to make more, but right now it's that old "You're going to have to buy it" hassle, and of course, nothing is free, but that's the way it is. Sony Movie Studio is a new step for me as well. My first lost vid was made with WMM, but after that, the program died and now I can't use it anymore, because it just freezes up and quits. My second vid was actually made with Sony Vegas, but I'm still quite new with it. Anywho, just thought I'd ask my questions and let you know who I am. I'm Erin by the way...looking forward to seeing your vids and hopefully getting more of mine up soon. |

Hey Erin!
I have used a program called DVDx before which is a standalone ripper straight to avi or mpeg. It is a little hard to get to grips with though so you might want to check out this tutorial: http://www.short-media.com/review.php?r=162
It says you need DVD Decryptor to extract the dvd first but I've found you can do it by opening the dvd into a dvd playing program before you hit encode on DVDx and it will be unlocked. I also think you need the latest ASPI drivers: http://downloads.zdnet.co.uk/0,39025604,39061929s,00.htm
Good luck! _________________

Thanks very much! Oh and by the way, I watched your Ordinary World vid last night and it was fantastic! I loved what you did with it! I'll definitely be looking into that program you suggested |

Hi Erin! Yes, I have that same program and it's awesome! It has almost every single video editing feature that the full version of Vegas has but at a fraction of the price! (I haven't used the + DVD part yet, nor have I ever tried to rip DVDs, so I'm not much help in that department, sorry. ) |

Yeah I already have a DVD burning program from Nero, so I don't think I'll be using the DVD portion of that program very much, but I'm glad that someone else uses this! I don't have the whole program quite down yet, but with enough experimentation I'll learn more and more about it. It's alright about the DVD Ripping, we just got some money in so I'll probably buy DVD Shrink soon just so I don't have to worry about trials or anything. |

I use Vegas Movie Studio also!!! I love it! But I couldn't not resist in taking a look at Vegas 6... and to be honest, apart from the audio effects, I didn't see much difference. I've used wmm maker for only two vids and I was about to run out of hair because the program kept freezing on me. Movie Studio never did that ... yet. *crosses fingers*.
What I think is the best with Vegas is that you can move scenes around so easily. And I really love the split screens effect... especially the blue/green screen effects. _________________

I have yet to work with blue/green screen or the split screen. I do prefer Sony Vegas over WMM. The problem is you can't get rid of WMM as it's undeleteable. It's not in the Add/Remove programs list or the Windows Components. I tried reinstalling over it, but it still doesn't work. The only thing I try to use it for is cutting clips from Second Season Episodes, since I can't put the full episode into Sony Vegas (I'm sure I probably could, but dunno how to accomplish that yet), and even then...WMM freezes up, then says it needs to close. That's why I was kind of skirtish about the contest for August, since it's pure second season. My WMM is unreliable so I'm not sure how I would cut out the clips. I wish they had put out the second season DVDs sooner, hehe. |

I'm not sure I understand your problem but I search the epi with the explorer tab and then I right click on the episode file and select trimmer to get the clip I want from the episode. You also might need to change something in the code-ish thing... Something about Vegas not reading avi files right...Polarbear has a great Vegas tutorial on this board. That's what I used to learn Vegas and solve my problems.
But please keep in mind that I'm technically challenged. People are talking about all sorts of technical stuff here and I have no idea what it means... _________________

Ahh alrighty, I will definitely look into that. I just discovered what song I want to use for this month's contest, but I already know it's going to take a LOT of patience, lol. Thanks for the tip about the episode trimming, I'll test it out to see what I can do. |

I assume you mean Chroma Keygen. I still find that hard to manipulate. But it is good when you have a shot of someone or something with just the one color behind it that doesn't affect the thing you are trying to focus on if that makes sense. Then you can kiss cookie cutter goodbye and use that
Thanks for the compliment about my vid Erin! _________________

yes, it's Chroma Keygen effect...I didn't remember how to spell it. I just love it. Of course it's hard to find a shot with just one color in the background so I use the cookie cutter often in addition the the croma keygen. And I often have to delay the cookie cutter effects because those damn characters keeps moving and the background is changing.
What is fun with Lost is that often the jungle shots have a green background and the beach scenes have a blue background. Very convenient. _________________

Now the Spambot troll thingies are asking editing questions... (Okay, so it was actually an advertising link with nothing to do with editing questions. It was just funnier to say it was asking editing questions... ) |

*gasp* How dare they!
I had another question while I have this thread up:
I saw in vids like Shankle's or Kaja's that they have their name or a symbol in the bottom corner while their vid is playing. How can I accomplis something like this for myself? |

Heya Erin! A lot of vidders watermark their vids like that (I keep meaning to do mine since I switched to Vegas Movie Studio but just haven't gotten around to it yet ).
I believe all you have to do is create the image or word that you want to be your watermark, then put it on an empty timeline, place and resize it as necessary with the pan/crop tool, then stretch it the length of the entire vid. That should do the trick, I think! |
