Well...no, Sawyer makes the show what it is. The flashbacks help though! _________________

I think the flashbacks are a little redundant. Theyve gotten pretty dang pointless now. Thats all. I think they should work on answering more questions in the *now* than then. And I know a million people are going to attack me for this, Im sorry Im not going to keep quiet. To paraphrase Kurt V- only those who have a full understanding of the spiritual can be skeptical. I love the show...which is why I can see its flaws. _________________

Ed is my favorite Apple-loving Jedi Padawan and his incredible insight (as evidenced in the above statement) is only one reason why.
About the flashbacks... I think some of the problem (if you want to call it a problem) is the fact that in the first season is was like "WOW, COOL! LOOK, there's so-and-so in what's-his-name's flashback!" Now the novelty has worn off and by the second year of seeing everybody in everybody's flashbacks, it's more like "wow, what a coincidence that Locke, Jin and Vincent all went to the same supermarket that Mr. Friendly owned and where Kate once stole an apple while Sawyer was conning Jack's Mom out of her favorite gold necklace with its patented Mengsheng locket on Aisle 3..." |

Hmm....seems to be real because of the pattern of writers and directors shown. I don't know. "I was blind but now I see"?......... How cheesy is that?
I hope it isn't real though. Jack and Kate episodes are getting just plain redundant. And "Buried Alive" for a Locke episode? Oh my god that sounds so depressing *poor Locke!!*
BTW, Shankle, could you please show us a link or something where you got that information? _________________

To me, flashbacks have become utterly pointless story-wise, unless those lame connections prove something... which I doubt they will... because even IF Claire is Jack's sister, it's not worth all the flashbacks.
I assume the writers must know this tidbit, so that leads me to three possible conclusions:
1) They're afraid to reduce flashbacks at this point, because they'd look like they're backing down for it, and because those things conveniently suck-up a good deal of the episode. Not to mention it's a lot easier to develop a character when they are shot at with a high-powered spotlight for an entire episode at a time instead of those weary little bits of character development they'd have to string in the show otherwise
2) they have some super-big point they're leading to with the flashbacks that has something to do with the island, like a connection with Dharma.
3) They see the flashbacks as an artistic part of Lost that really lets them let loose and use the character's pasts to help us understand their presents. The flaw in this conclusion is we rarely seem to recognize those simillarities and tidbits in the character . I mean, what did Jack's wife leaving him have to do with The Hunting Party?
That is why we have a contest this month, to eliminate this particular conclusion, or illuminate it so we appreciate these flashbacks a bit more by realizing they have SOME sort of merit to them.
Thus, if #3 is eliminated, and #2 never leads to anything, then I'll have no qualms in absolutely hating flashbacks once more |

I tried to get a link, but the post in the forum where I got it was posted in the wrong place, so a moderator, instead of moving it, just deleted it and told the author to post spoilers in the spoiler thread.
But I found it in a forum, if that makes anyone more comfortable about not believing it lol
I prefer to believe it's real to be honest. I'm not sure why... _________________

ITV- lol! Well, I realllllly think they shouldve gone in a different direction for Kate's "murder"- the guy (husband or father figure) shouldve been beating her or something similiar (not that I think they *should*- well you know what I mean). It shouldve been way more justified than it was. Jack's are boring. I knew that right away in "Do no Harm" which REALLY shouldve been a Boone episode, or maybe a Shannon one. What the hell did him getting married have to do with anything? Im with Hobbes on this one. And dont even get me started on Eko's flashbacks in "?". Thats all Im saying- "?". _________________

Ha! lol Yeah I get what you mean. And I completly agree with you on the flashbacks. Apart from Jack. I liked his flashback in The Hunting Party because I wanted to know how his marrige broke up and why. Eko's are just boring. His first flashback was so boring I skipped through it and just watched the parts on the island.
Lockes sometimes bore me. Like his first flashback. It didnt really have anything to do with the episode, they were hunting for boare and his flashback was about not being allowed to go on a trip and being turned down by a girl to join him on the trip he wont be going on...
I know what you mean about Kates flashbacks. We didnt really see the whole reason why she killed her real/stepfather. We know why she did it but we didnt really get to see how he effected her and her boiling point with Wayne. Maybe thats something to come in S3?
Guess we will have to wait and see _________________

Ah, it's a rumor site. That makes me feel better. And looking over all the titles again, they all look so stupid and uncreative that I feel very confident that this isn't real. I NEVER want the new season to start out with Jack again. _________________

Me too . Though I think technically he'll be Season 3 Locke
My guess is he'll be like a man who lost his faith.
Oh wait... wasn't he that in the last few eps of S2? |

Well atually in the finale he had found a new faith and he'd become more determined than ever before to prove himself right. Of course, for the first time, he was wrong... _________________
